Hey up Bazza gud to see you posting again, still out & about throwing some shapes I hope. This is very E. Rodney Jones & I love his stuff also, as Shorny said earlier in the thread, "The Sax is the voice". Spot.

Hey Phil how are you, good I hope. I'm in total agreement, Instrumentals were massive back in the day, Mike Post - Afternoon, was hugh & rammed the dancefloor. I still love em but it wasn't about being Soulful, it was the dance beat & the handclapping that brought them alive. I understand what Bearsy means, I dislike R&B but there's exceptions to this rule. I still love to hear Mike & Ike - Sax on the trax, Mike Post - Bubblegum & Total Eclipse - 6 O'Clock plus Afternoon still raises the hairs on my neck. I must say that Sam's new "Prove yourself a lady" although not bad isn't a patch on the vocal & sounds great when sang along with your own wording in your head. The problem was that the infamous Simon tried turning everything into an instrumental,as did others & it basically killed it. We all loved & danced to a lot of stuff we're reluctant to admit to nowadays. Spot.

For once I actually agree with you Rick, We went to both & I felt for Payo. The first one had a bloody great Dj Tower on the dance floor & you entered via the front of the building and if I remember correctly it was freezing as some clown had had the air con on all day instead of the heating , the second one was worse as the weather was bad and all the gutters were blocked and water was teeming through the roof in various places, going to the loo you got a free shower. When Kev Roberts did the dayer the place was split into 2, with a modern room/bar at the front and the main room dominated by a massive stage area of about a third of the room and a tiny dancefloor, you couldn't even swing a circled skirt . These 3 times spoilt the memories a tad for me & as Rick says it needs to be left as a tribute to Mary & Colin in our minds, even the Winter Gardens never came close for me after the Pier ended, I can feel the place bouncing & hear the stomping & clapping as you walked up the Pier & it still making my stomach somersault & the hair (What little I have left) stand up on the back of my neck just thinking of it. Spot. p.s. There's a short clip of the Pier Nighter on You Tube & you can clearly make out Fizz from Harrogate dancing. p.p.s. Just seen clips been posted.

Mikey even us thick Soulies can read titles, it's on the label in case you missed it. Anyway not R&B to my ear, more like Lena Zavaroni on Helium & I actually find it ok. Oh I need a lie down. Spot.

That's the problem Carl, we can't agree what is good or what is bad!!!!! Ooh me head hurts, Spot. p.s. I've just realised there's actually some R&B I like, Lonnie Lester, A.C. Reed, Etta James, now I'm really confused!!!!

Yes Martyn the very same but I wouldn't class Moments as R&B, almost Pop to my ear & I've got some right ears , Little Walter to me is, it sounds like he's just smoked 40 Senior Service & is in excruciating pain after being kicked in the Bo**ocks by a Bull & if he sang that his "Women gone left him for some playboy & his heart is broke", then I'd say it was Blues . Spot. p.s. Good Morning Matey, been a few weeks.

Now, seems I dismissed the correct title but wrong You Tube tune,Oops!!!!!!!!! Not all Marvin was great though, I've got the Lounge Singer Years & though the voice is ace it's a bit cringeworthy. Spot.

Ooh I feel ill. Ooh I feel worse. Ooh feeling better now. Now where's me Disco glitter ball? Spot. p.s. Must say though some of my best memories are dancing to White Pop trash in the 70's.

    Simple Simon, "NO". Spot.
  12. Finally someone who's actually been there and is willing to shine a truth light on proceedings, maybe not full beam but definitely a Torch light, the teaser was like being rewound 40 years and being 17 again, well done Elaine, let's see it in it's full glory for the final judgement and make us all young again. Spot.
  13. First 16 minutes were on the money for me, same old footage but still gave the old tingle seeing it & decent quality for a change. Have to agree with LDS to much emphasis in the program on retro dress, most of us pot bellied pigs couldn't carry off the trousers etc anymore & an arse as wide as a pair of French doors looks no better in a circle skirt btw that isn't aimed at anyone, just a generalization. The Bruce Lee stuff comes from Keb & "This England" but weren't the Teddy Boys doing a bit first, back in the day? I thought my Sis was young at 13 going to Cleethorpes but Sammy who said he was born in 61 & was one of the original boys must have gone at 12 when Wigan opened in 73. Just like Wigan's Young Souls I remember the older lads coming back from God knows where, later found out it was The Wheel or Torch, and playing Bunny Sigler - Let the good times roll, Willie Tee - Walkin' up a one way street, etc, and copying them dancing and thinking I was the dogs, till I met Snowy from Donny at Tech and that's when it all began. Seems Elaine's film is gonna be along those line, so could be the closest yet, I hope so for her and us. Finally Steve G, I'm afraid I can't agree about the Drug thing, and I applaud anyone who went without, respect, it was an integral part and planning started for procurement very early in the week, it's what made us different from the norm, along with the music and as Russ Winstanley said, "There was never a drug problem at Wigan", he was right, you never had a problem getting them. Take care, be safe & remember, " Let the good times roll, while you still can", Spot. p.s. Get ready for a mid 70's influx of Soul Tourists, ouch!!! p.p.s. Take the time to talk to Pete & Sue, they're actually very nice, committed people, to the music that is.
  14. You can buy it on DVD for about a fiver, I often re-watch mine, the guy who plays Ruffin is ace. Spot.

Perfect quote for Stafford, "Easily forgotten drivel", my exact sentiments, if you were luck 10% were good, now we never went but I've listened to cd's, podcast etc, etc & C&W springs to mind nearly. Well said Keb Spot.
  16. Samplat had a copy on Wand for sale some months ago, only one I've ever seen, nice!!! Spot.
  17. Frank Foster, Brilliant, also how good did Alice Clarke sound out & the O'Jays. Excellent all night, as always, worth the 200 mile round trip just for those I didn't know. Spot.
  18. Now that's how I remember Wigan, if I close my eye's I can feel the heat, hear the clapping & remember the ear straining to hear what the Dj was announcing next, memories so sweet you could spread it on toast, then there was the toilets to break the dream. Spot.
  19. Bunky is the original local release and very rare, so expensive. Spot.
  20. Just go look at his other sales items, there all re-issues or boots, so are that guys Pete & some have auto bids on them. Spot.
  21. Wot a dunderhead, there's one on Pat Brady's for £70, quick Pat get in on auction, these people deserve everything they get & to think I gave my Green Salvadores away cos it was a boot & yes I did get my £12 back in 1974. Spot. p.s. Sorry I exaggerate, it's on a £10.
