  2. wow chrissieo i remember migrant mouse!,i remember me and my mate going there and buying papa was a rolling stone the temptations on gordy it arrived as we were in the shop ah the excitement,if you know chester there was also a great little shop down by the station [in a row of about 4 little shops]that sold old soul, they had some great stuff at times and really great albums..wow cant believe anyone else remembers migrant mouse as chester wasnt exactly soultown was it!
  3. not sure if this has been done before, but asking what was your favourite old record shop from the past and why,im not talking about u.s shops where you found your best haul im talking about that really special u.k shop that has a place in your heart, maybee it was those gorgeous imports sellotaped to the window that did it for you or maybee the shop stocked every jay boy release when you were 15 and that helped you get into the music or was it the atmosphere or the characters hangin' around... im gonna leave mine till later as im interested to see if anyone else mentions it but my prize for the best shop name/sign is peps downtown records, handpainted with the city skyline rather like the soultown or black magic labels, right in the middle of walsall too! mid/late 70s whats yours.......

  8. yes they are pretty obvious but another giveaway on some of the boot promos is a small black circle, this is actually the drill hole of the original record and when photocopied appears as a black spot the size of the drillhole said soussan as he was packing the boxes 'ah nobody will noticce zis,zey all high on drugs'
  9. thanks dave rimmer

i collect em too jimmy ive got lots have never seen the nolan porter but i have got his keep on keepin on,some of my faves marlena shaw lets wade in the water, edwin starr s.o.s,have got darrell banks open the door too,i aslo collect mecca type disco ones to [like the one on the left] dr buzzard, tavares brass construction etc, think ive got everything barry white ever did too on u.s copies, they look great if you do a whole wall of em
  15. i dont think this is aimed at the northern soul scene,i think the marvin gaye track,if it was a single wouldnt be an impossibility to chart, and if in turn that got younger people buying that, then delving back into old motown it wouldnt be a bad thing.
  16. theres a couple of samples on kev roberts goldsoul site, can in say that? lets get it on is great, just my imagination is o.k but best left alone,am interested to hear tom moultons 'stoned love' though, has anyone heard that? somebody did post the lets get it on sample here the other day but i cant find it
  17. peobo bryson-why dont you make up your mind from turn back the hands of time album on capitol just over the border into the 80s, did get plays once, should be big again.
  18. this record was played pre wigan easily 1972 the correct cover up title was 'the end of the world' by explosion
  19. young hearts is a great record,i was lucky to recently find a u.k promo only 12" american disco collectors would kill for this its a shame records like this cant be thrown in here and there on the northern scene, personally id like to see armed and extremely dangerous first choice as the top sound in the country[ the tom moulton long mix of course ]
  20. one of the guys from that group lived next door to me when i was a kid, he was a right twat
  21. hey DAYO ive been racking my brain and thats the first thing i thought and dismissed it as that has to be 74 right? first played as a c/up [estella dennison] at the mecca....so that would have made it 75 at the casino
  22. i remember reading an interview with pete waterman, he said when kylie was given that song she came back to him and said 'what IS this song,is it some kind of camp gay record'? at this point pete probibly replied come and sit on my lap kylie love and ill explain...a long long time ago when you were a little girl in a county far far away, there was a d.j legend, one morning this packet arrived from his uncle.......
  23. came across a record today that id totally forgotten about its house/dance from the late 80s on ffrr i need your love-june montana which is a remake of the chaumonts record [ive played this 3 times tonight and im starting to like it!], wonder how the hell that came about whats the strangest remake of a northern track you've ever heard.........
  24. cool off detroit executives?
