  1. but for me it and i suspect many others it would have been a long and uncomfortable wait to get to that point i couldnt have done it and with the passing of time im pleased i never, there were better places to go
  2. as said above wigan was great for the first 18 months but then it all went downhill, a lot of the people that were joining the scene at that time were likely to have been there because a mate might have said 'hey i go to this great club want to come on saturday' rather be drawn to it like a magnet like previous kids were, so when russ dropped footsie they thought thats what it was standards dropped and things got silly. personally i wish we were looking back at a wigan without russ, i know it was his baby but i sure wish it had been someone elses and we wouldnt be reading this topic today...
  3. seriously though if you took out what had gone before wigan and blackpool mecca discoveries you wouldnt be left with much would you? [above list]
  4. interestingly [for me] last year in france i was going to my neighbours house to play and talk records, hes black and heavily into soul and funk. when i got there he was in a haze of smoke and playing a paul anka c.d, he asked me if i liked him before i had a chance to reply he said i like paul anka he sings like a f*ckin black man! he didnt know CHLY ill take it to him next mont i know he will flip out
  5. i agree never wanted to listen to dance to or own any of those records i always thought i would leave that kind of stuff to my mum and dad where it seemed to be much more suitable.

  7. you actually are allowed 'gifts ' to the value of 34 pounds [just reduced from 40 pounds] but the post office are just ignoring that. its not just records they are stopping for example if you live outside the mainland and have a kid in university and kid wants clothes posted they are being stopped and they write to the university and ask for proof, same is happening with some business samples. but heres the best i know a girl from jersey who sent her nephew a 1.99 plastic toy marked as a gift and it was pulled and charged so in total there was about 8 pounds something to pay hard to believe but true, that has to be illegal no?

there was a guy on ebay a year or two ago that had aquired an 'a' stamp and hed stamped all these english records on various labels and was selling them as demos it was hilarious...
  9. there are similarities between the u.k and u.s in clips over the years but to me if you watch the earliest soul train episodes it could be liverpool, especially the timepiece to me its uncanny and for sure influenced by u.s servicmen https://youtu.be/8bhgEsP6yeo
  10. just released on a jap mini l.p c.d if thats any good
  11. true tony cant get the credit for this, at that time run baby run was a massive youth club play, i belive the chart hits of that era elgins, formations, tammi lynn, newbeats etc were pushed into the charts not so much by the northern scene but by the youth club scene, later youth clubs were more varied with more records to play with but the youth club scene in 71 was like a mini northern scene and a lot of the djs went to the wheel, where i youthed in cheshire it was more or less the same playlist town to town and every kid wanted run baby run
  12. youd be lucky to find one of those too
