  1. To be honest I thought your question was what people thought of the returnees/born agains that pretend they’ve never been away etc bull shitting.
  2. It’s not a problem, and I am cheerful, honest,😊 just merely responding to BabyBoys post which has some validity on the matter . Life is what you make of it .
  3. Erm been going since 77 , sorry but it’s not has good as it used to be despite the numbers going up , in the last decade, it’s like the old t shirt said ā€œ eat sh#t , 50 million flies can’t be wrong ā€œ lol
  4. Nothing against the young ones , it was likewise for me . Nothing against returnees either , just the bull shi#ters .
  5. No anecdotes for you (as yet) only just read your post , when you say the ā€˜new lot’ do you mean new blood or the returnees / born agains who stayed away for 25-30 years telling folks they’ve never been away , personally it’s put me off over the last few years, and I don’t bother going anywhere, and I’m sure I’m not the only one ! I’ve only just joined this site and I’m not too sure why ??? Lol
  6. Little Milton at colne r n b festival, class sam Moore at colne , yes he was/is getting on but bloody hell the power he still had was incredible.
  7. Should give a member on here a shout out too , Eli Paper boy Reed . Thoroughly enjoyed his show , lays it all out on stage and well worth going to see .
  8. Thanks chalky.
  9. Re- lee fields , yes top quality, saw him at Leeds , superb performance up there with the best of them .
  10. Reminds me of a tale of a dj who was playing aLeroy Hutson track and was asked about an album track request , ā€œhe’s done an album has he , didn’t know that ā€œ was the reply , anyway he was left to do his spot educating the crowd , bless him . By the way this was recent !!
  11. Yes I agree , seems to me he got his timing right in selling the big guns he had , enjoyed the proceeds ,no doubt the money will have made him secure , good on him , what a smashing fella he was . R.I.P John
  12. Almost forgot , Betty lavette , Kim Weston , Frankie Gaye , one Thursday October night early mid nineties, king George’s Hall Blackburn , superb despite only a couple of hundred there , tut tut.
  13. Ann Sexton at the Wilton, Bobby Patterson at Cala gran fleetwood , ditto Prince Philip Mitchell, Charles walker( little Charles) at a r ā€˜n’b event I attended .Also what about Edwin Starr , he never let you down and gave his all on stage , and hung around among the crowds afterwards.
  14. I know Edwin Starr was 5th May 79 , I’ve a photo or two with the date written on , bloody hated having to look after the camera , never took a camera again, alas !
  15. Did all the aforementioned artists perform at the all nighters ? I take it the original poster is asking this . I heard Betty Wright was one of the best , wouldn’t know myself was too young , just saw Edwin , shit hot , he’d just hit pay dirt with ā€˜ contact ā€˜ and was just releasing ā€œhappy radioā€ that intro when he was revving up on stage ! Might be a bit poppie but gives me a tingle anyway!!
  16. Would you admit it ? šŸ˜„
  17. ā€œCan you play some tunes made in Wigan instead of this american stuff ā€œ I kid you not!
  18. Colnago replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
WHEN WE GO OUT TO A NORTHER SOUL NIGHT, ITS FOR THE TUNES OF OUR YOUTH THE MEMORIES OF THE CLUBS WE WENT TO , AND THAT IS THE TRUTH BUT SOME DJ’S DONT SEEM TO KNOW, THAT IS WHAT NORTHERN SOUL IS ABOUT. ā€œNot for me it isn’tā€
  19. Always find Ely paperboy reeds shows stimulating, and of course Steve g on solar , also derek p on Bradford radio, and ā€˜spectrum of soul’ on drystone radio with Dave longbottom for crossover , deep with a beat etc . Amongst others....
  20. I know a guy who took his collection to a well known dealer to sell , the dealer said he’d give him 60% of the market value , trouble was the dealer didn’t give him the market values, the guy trusted him and at the time he wasn’t savvy with the internet and trusted the dealer 😳, thing is if he were making 40%why not be honest on the valuations. I don’t know if this is relevant to ā€œwhy prices are rocketing ā€œ but just thought I’d tell it so some potential sellers can beware of some shenanigans
  21. Also, while Ernie Johnson cds are being discussed, may I recommend Ernie Johnson ā€œin the mood ā€œ cd Waldoxy , just for ā€œ loves on the other line ā€œ track alone is well worth a purchase, so much quality soul has been missed by such artists from dare I say the twilight of their careers.
  22. Of course yes , then the old supply and demand scenario kicks in
  23. Re ā€œrecords getting rarerā€ my problem is if there is say 1000 copies of Jesse James ā€œlove affair ā€œ kicking about in collections etc , to me it’s not rarer but yes there is less on the market but my take is that the genuinely ā€œrareā€ records are just that , genuinely rare . So sounds like jj aren’t getting rarer as in they are becoming like white šŸ¦, just my take on it , and yes Ā£150 for broadways is just another typical example !!
