I don't mind saying that I had a tear in my eye last night and there's more there now. Remories of being a kid of about 13 lay on my bed playing a Four Tops album over and over again for hours, probably hugging my pillow thinking about some girl or other at school who wouldn't acknowledge that I exsisted. You know it; you've been there. That sweet music and voice being part of the transition from childhood to adolescence for most of us on here I would suspect. Listening to Bernadette as I type and it just makes you know why you love soul music. It can't be easily explained and you either get it or you don't. Levi Stubbs is the voice of Motown in my humble opinion and I thank him for all the pleasure he has given me. Rest in peace Mr Stubbs. Drew.

As nothing more than a 'punter' I have pretty much no idea about the sound quality of boots and carvers as opposed to originals. How could I, I'm in a dance hall of some discription when I hear the music! However,the hypocricy of those who state that it must never be boots or carvers and only ever OV and then argue that it is ok to have an origional but play a carver, is deafening to my ears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mods. Please feel free to move this to another section of the site. Is anyone else finding the music player on the site difficult to follow? In earlier formats Refosoul seemed much easier (to a numpty like me) to navigate. Things like the radio shows of Mark Bicknall etc where easier to find. At the moment I can't get any sound out of it; when I click on the 'play tabs' the player comes up but seems to be stuck, like net video often does (if you know what I mean). Any advice please on what I might be doing wrong? KTF. Drew.

I always thought that Otis Redding, his brother Noel, the Temptations, the Platters and Jimi Hendrix where all in the Supremes along with Betty Swann and that I Can't Help Myself by the Supremes was only ever 'covered up' as The Krankies! I've contributed to a similar thread before and it's well posted that I live with a musical philistine, (I've had a pint or two this afternoon so I'm feeling dead brave)!!! She is into The Scissor Sisters, Prince and of course the music she grew up with, (a tad younger than me and she still loves the music of her pre-teens), God dam Glam Rock!!!! Hence, she is the Gary Glitter Fan!!!! Will occasionally come out to do's as long as there are other girlies to talk the hind legs off!! TGGF's not a bad dancer when the beat takes her!! I have just finished a six year tenure as the Vice Chair of a Foserting Panel for a private fostering agency. A few months ago I received the paperwork to read for a couple coming to panel. The vetting for foster carers is very stringent and the paperwork considerable, going into every aspect of the applicants lives and ablities etc. This couple came off the page as excellent candidates but it sealed it for me when they had told their assessor that they were Northern Soul fans! I went to Panel and the couple made their representatation. Lovely folk with lots to offer children in need of a stable family life. When we got to the part where the couple left the room for the panel to make comment and vote, every other panel member made perfectly professional comments and gave their considered opinions (as I would normally do). The Chair came to me and I said "well, this couple told me in the waiting room earlier that they go to Lowton so they can't do any wrong for me"! They were approved. As I am no longer on the panel I won't get to hear how they are doing but I do hope their new responsibilities have not curtailed their nights out too much. KTF. Drew.
