Acetates - Let's Take A Look
Lovely 4 Tracker here from Renaldo Domino (Blue Rock / Smash output). Always loved "I'm Hip To Your Game" which sounds so right for now, alongside the truly fabulous oldie "You Don't Love Me No More".

A few here from the collection, that might be of interest to some. First up, the immortal, unreleased Sam Dees 'Funny'. Crossover perfection from Chess. Sean

New Discoveries 6Ts/7Ts Northern & Rare Soul
I think you're right Dean. Was beginning to think I'd killed the thread off, by stating that these are some of the best discoveries in recent times, just because it's so blindingly bloody obvious that they are. They're in short supply too, already, so need picking up when you can and, let's face it, the label requires and deserves the support of every Soul fan (IMO). Let's not forget this other brilliant Gem of a discovery from the past 2 - 3 years... also on Kent Select. Spencer Wiggins "I'm At The Breaking Point". A Southern Soul stormer that's certainly up there with the now famous 'Two Willies" 45 and the stunning Candi! Sean

New Discoveries 6Ts/7Ts Northern & Rare Soul
I would say that these are some of the very best discoveries in recent times. Top Drawer Soul Music that would have been big on any self respecting Soul Scene at any point in the past 40 years... had they been discovered! Candi Staton - "One More Hurt" William Bollinger - "I Won't Have To Cry No More" Willie Walker - "Runaround" The YouTube clips really don't do 'em justice. Buy em when you can! Longer Dj Sets?
Think it all depends on who the DJ is and on the expectations of the venue / crowd. There are so many different kinds of event these days. In general, 30 Minute sets certainly keep you sharp and focus the mind on the floor, but 60+ minutes allow one a bit more freedom to experiment. Any more than 90 minutes on the trot I think would blunt the sword for most! That said, I did over 5 Hours at Lifeline weekender about 4-5 years ago. Loved every minute of it... but think I was the only one who did :0) Sean

Back Beat Label, What's Been Reissued/pressed/booted?
Agree with Pete. No lookalike Carl Carlton on Backbeat. Sean

Back Beat Label, What's Been Reissued/pressed/booted?
Joe Hinton "Got You On My Mind" is a superb dancer.

Back Beat Label, What's Been Reissued/pressed/booted?
Think Shirley Lawson 'The Star" / "One More Chance" was booted as a 'lookalike' recently. Sean

Brenda (Lee) Jones (Including - "big Mistake")
Tell you what, I'd pay big bucks for Jean Lee "Unwed Mother" on Cedric. It's stunning. Sean

Esquires "girl In The City" Demo Worth Owt?
Ah! The indestructable 45! Many years ago, we were hunting in a shop in Baltimore, when this guy came in and told the owner that he'd just heard that a Record Store had burned down the night before, about 30 miles up the highway, and that they were going to pull the store down, lock stock and barrell. Obviously, we kidnapped the guy and got him to lead the way When we got there, somewhere in the wilderness across miles and miles of dirt track, we found the place, a smoking, charred, ruin with racks of warped and molten vinyl. The only surviving 45 retrieved was a half decent copy of 'Girls In The City' completely flat and unscathed! How it survived, i'll never know, but, to me, its a Priceless souvenir! Sean

Dj's I Wanna Hear Out More At Allnighters
Great stuff Chalks. I followed Richard at Whitby a couple of weeks ago. He had the dance floor in the palm of his hand (it was me that killed it lol). This is one extraordinary professional. Can turn it on at will in any Environment. Sure, there's Dozens of keen, capable and enthusiastic DJ's out there, and if up to the job, their chance will surely come in time. But when it comes to supreme ability and total confidence and style, nobody can perform like Richard. Lifeline would love him! :0) Sean

Too Sweet To Be Lonely, who Did It First: Ray Lewis/the Internationals
Yes, Alan, it was never on a 45 to my knowledge. Sean

Hi Mike, Think I'd have said O'Jays was first. Poindexter written and all that. Always thought it was the best version. Who on earth can out sing Eddie Levert? But I don't expect Wayne to agree with me, lol Sean
