  1. Nice one. But I'll politely decline Kev! :0) Sean
  2. Hi Kev, Quite an achievment getting a bargain off Rosen mate. The guy would skin a fart! :0) Just while you mention Roy C, howabout this Rare issue. Not an Acetate... but interesting... Will put up a few UK Acetates in a mo. Sean
  3. Speaking of Jerry Butler, here's the original of his great 45 by Lorraine Ellison, Fontana Acetate on a Mercury 45.
  4. Nice version of Marion Love / Jerry Butler!
  5. Think I already posted this, but just in case... the ultimate Northern Soul record in its rarest format. :0)
  6. Lovely 4 Tracker here from Renaldo Domino (Blue Rock / Smash output). Always loved "I'm Hip To Your Game" which sounds so right for now, alongside the truly fabulous oldie "You Don't Love Me No More".
  7. On the flipside of George E. Smith, a superb 'unreleased' version of The Manhattens 45.
  8. The mesmerising Beat Ballad / Crossover George E. Smith.
  9. Staying with Sam Dees, the Awesome 'In My World' Pub Acetate.
  10. A few here from the collection, that might be of interest to some. First up, the immortal, unreleased Sam Dees 'Funny'. Crossover perfection from Chess. Sean
  11. I think you're right Dean. Was beginning to think I'd killed the thread off, by stating that these are some of the best discoveries in recent times, just because it's so blindingly bloody obvious that they are. They're in short supply too, already, so need picking up when you can and, let's face it, the label requires and deserves the support of every Soul fan (IMO). Let's not forget this other brilliant Gem of a discovery from the past 2 - 3 years... also on Kent Select. Spencer Wiggins "I'm At The Breaking Point". A Southern Soul stormer that's certainly up there with the now famous 'Two Willies" 45 and the stunning Candi! Sean
  12. I have some of his old 60's WVON shows on Reel to Reel. Some DJ! Sean
  13. I would say that these are some of the very best discoveries in recent times. Top Drawer Soul Music that would have been big on any self respecting Soul Scene at any point in the past 40 years... had they been discovered! Candi Staton - "One More Hurt" William Bollinger - "I Won't Have To Cry No More" Willie Walker - "Runaround" The YouTube clips really don't do 'em justice. Buy em when you can! 14. Think it all depends on who the DJ is and on the expectations of the venue / crowd. There are so many different kinds of event these days. In general, 30 Minute sets certainly keep you sharp and focus the mind on the floor, but 60+ minutes allow one a bit more freedom to experiment. Any more than 90 minutes on the trot I think would blunt the sword for most! That said, I did over 5 Hours at Lifeline weekender about 4-5 years ago. Loved every minute of it... but think I was the only one who did :0) Sean
  15. Agree with Pete. No lookalike Carl Carlton on Backbeat. Sean
  16. Joe Hinton "Got You On My Mind" is a superb dancer.
  17. Think Shirley Lawson 'The Star" / "One More Chance" was booted as a 'lookalike' recently. Sean
  18. Tell you what, I'd pay big bucks for Jean Lee "Unwed Mother" on Cedric. It's stunning. Sean
  19. I'm on it Boss, honest! And they're lookin' and soundin' goooooooooooood! Sean
  20. Got it Mike, Got pretty much everything by the O'Jays - my fave group! :0) Also found that old Freddie North on Abet for you. PM me you address. Cheers, Sean
  21. Ah! The indestructable 45! Many years ago, we were hunting in a shop in Baltimore, when this guy came in and told the owner that he'd just heard that a Record Store had burned down the night before, about 30 miles up the highway, and that they were going to pull the store down, lock stock and barrell. Obviously, we kidnapped the guy and got him to lead the way When we got there, somewhere in the wilderness across miles and miles of dirt track, we found the place, a smoking, charred, ruin with racks of warped and molten vinyl. The only surviving 45 retrieved was a half decent copy of 'Girls In The City' completely flat and unscathed! How it survived, i'll never know, but, to me, its a Priceless souvenir! Sean
  22. Yes Bob. Great LP despite the phoney audience! Sean
  23. Great stuff Chalks. I followed Richard at Whitby a couple of weeks ago. He had the dance floor in the palm of his hand (it was me that killed it lol). This is one extraordinary professional. Can turn it on at will in any Environment. Sure, there's Dozens of keen, capable and enthusiastic DJ's out there, and if up to the job, their chance will surely come in time. But when it comes to supreme ability and total confidence and style, nobody can perform like Richard. Lifeline would love him! :0) Sean
  24. Yes, Alan, it was never on a 45 to my knowledge. Sean
  25. Hi Mike, Think I'd have said O'Jays was first. Poindexter written and all that. Always thought it was the best version. Who on earth can out sing Eddie Levert? But I don't expect Wayne to agree with me, lol Sean
