  1. Sean, I was at Alan D's reception where you and Andy were playing. I do remember thinking who were these two tits. ROD
  2. No John I've never seen a black "Geni" but then I blame ex-Coronation St. actors monopolising the pantomime circuit. That's great news about Bobby Sanders and I look forward to it being worth thousands. Im really pleased for you. WHAT A FACKIN' LIBERTY!! Actually I find Pete very refreshing, down to earth and a [hard to read Pete's writing here] reliable commentator on what's going on. I would trust him with my wife. I can have her down there ,Pete in a couple of hours. No rush to bring her back. ROD
  3. I would imagine Mr. Storch [a light aircraft used by the Germans in W.W 2 by the way] has vays of making him talk. "Achtung Dai". And there my subscription to "Commando" comic ran out so I never pursued my childhood passion for the German language and culture. Could it be a wind-up. ROD
  4. John,it's written and produced by George McGregor who co-wrote "Hit and Run" which was "Groovesville Music" and under the supervision[ I think George was under an ASBO at the time] of Taylor and Davis who I think were the 70/80's's snooker stars Dennis and Steve, who's "Our balls are in the pocket" is the better if slightly more risque version. Lebaron Taylor and Don Davis may have been involved but I think that view is only endorsed by sad anoraks with low sperm counts who want to impress members of the opposite sex. I really just wanted to sound more knowledgable than Pete. ROD
  5. As somewhat of a new man in this age of equality and diversity I'd go for large breasts every time. ROD
  6. If you use a black pen write it on the label cos it would be really difficult to see on the vinyl. Failing that check Popsike, Ebay completed listings, various price guides and JM's site and try and make some f..king sense of it all. ROD
  7. Is Mangomn2003 by perchance from the USA. That may explain it. ROD
  8. So,Gibby's a bouncer? Great spot Gibby. Could it be a bit of banter that didn't quite come out right over the mic; wit and a droll sense of humour not being a quality much admired or required in the world of Bounciness. Politeness does cost nothing unless you ask "Would you like a drink" at some posh wedding do and then it's £5.40 for a vodka and orange. I make a point of always complimenting the previous DJ on his [and hard though it is to believe sometimes her!!] pathetic little spot. It is hard sometimes to find something positive to say when for instance you follow Geoff Buckley and all you can think of is that he's dressed like he's just come down from the remote area of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is eager to ravish your Grandmother. Maybe if you didn't tuck that check shirt into your work jeans, Geoff. Wear the shirt over your jeans and go for more of a Latino ex-convict look. Soulful Bob sounds like a guy I could have a drink with, although if Im paying not a vodka and orange. Im all for something fresh and different 60's-wise but then he kinda detracts from his argument by referring to Mellow Souls which I first heard when I lived in Salford[yeah Salford. Gibby so be careful!!]. The nice part admittedly where most of us had glass in the windows. I ain't lived there since 1988. So Bob my point is that Im thinking this oldies v. newies split in 60's sounds doesn't exist in my take on the scene. With very few exceptions we've heard them all before. Why the dance floor in certain instances haven't caught on I have no idea other than lack of exposure. Which brings me to my final point. F..king £3K-5K. Im sure there are lots of guys out there who appreciate this stuff but it's out of their price range. Me included. If Bob's tracks are on CD,, and some are, and the DJ wants to play them either on CD or vinyl carver dub then it's a hard call to condemn them outright. At least it's not NF Porter or King Tutt for the millionth time. I would like to point out that when I do DJ at BILLINGTON BRASS BAND CLUB, a line up of top DJs and Geoff Buckley, I never play boots or CDs and no animals are injured during the course of the evening except for that hamster that time. Well, how was I to know that it would fly off the turntable at that speed and land in that girl's vodka and orange. Another f..king £5.40. ROD
  9. I bought something off Mr. Harris at M-. It went straight back. Let's face it, some of these guys couldn't grade a 45 if their life depended on it. ROD
  10. Light scratches and marks making 45 an overall VG-[almost fcuked IMO as a collectible piece of vinyl], what looks like a ripped/badly worn label and some background noise. I'd say that is a defective record and not a "very nice record"as described. However he did point out those faults to potential buyers. Maybe someone on here knows Randy and could intercede on your behalf,Pete. ROD
  11. My take on this is that men have trouble expressing emotions and feelings. Football may be an outlet for venting those such as anger, frustration etc whilst the music appeals to that softer side that we don't like to admit we have. As for working class roots/attitudes etc I think we get an extremely biased press. I'd agree NS is a working class phenomena but from the beginning there was an atmosphere of tolerance and friendliness. I've witnessed more trouble down the pub or student disco over a weekend than I have attending various venues over the past 38 years. Similarly those middle-class orgies of self-congragulation such as Rock against Racism or Live Aid for Africa where hardly a black face is to be seen out of the context of "victim" make me cringe. We may not have caught on to the PC jargon but we all live together and in the main get on with those of different faiths, colours and sexuality cos a bit of respect and politeness cost us nothing. The idea that the working class is some kinda unintelligent mob to be mobilised en masse against minorities of any kind is a fallacy put about by the Media who are predominantly middle class and only condescend to pay any attention when there are flare-ups, which IMO is down to social/economic conditions and not cos we're a bunch of racist homophobes. 12. Just to update:- Bessie Banks Go now TIGER Larks For the love of money AROCK Reflections Just like Romeo and Juliet GW San Remos Festival Time WDJ ONLY Edwin Starr Headline News WDJ ONLY Eddie Parker Love you baby ASHFORD MUST BE MINTISH ORIGINALS. No scuffs or scratches
  13. I think it's pretty obvious from the beginning with blue vinyl boot of Wakefield Sun. However I don't think that Father&Sons 45 was ever pressed and no idea what Johnny & Jammers is on Big Beat[same label as Cherries?] There may be the odd original 45 in there but whether they're Northern is another matter. May be worth the money for that Bobby Crush 45 who I believe was a big influence on Popcorn Wylie's style of piano playing. I looked at feedback and couldn't see any Northern or record selling history. ROD
  14. Actually Nev I take great exception to not getting a name check for my initial witty.erudite and informative reply and all without the aid of Popsike!!However I still have my own teeth and hair and can perform a passable backdrop so it would be churlish of me to resent giving those two old men the limelight just this once. ROD
  15. Added a couple of 45s and an idea of what's on LP and so am bumping this up. Hope that's OK. ROD
  16. Before Pikey has you reaching for your protractors and slide-rule, I think the re-issue of this LP was on MOTOWN logo and original is on TAMLA. In fact just checked John's site and it deffo was on MOTOWN as he lists a copy as out of stock. What you paid may be a lot less but don't forget that condition is everything to a lot of Motown collectors. John's valuation is for what looks like a M- copy. That would be looking like you just bought it from the store on the day of release!! Personally at £200 which is around $380 I think that's well OTT and on Ebay I would expect it to be around $125- 175 for a Minter. ROD
  17. Come on. What!! A Pearly King costume, a set of saucepans? ROD
  18. You are exactly right, Simon. Im bemoaning the fact that there ought to be a place for those dreamy midtempo tunes that may be staple fare to a lot of us but perhaps deserved to be heard loud in the odd main room. ROD
  19. In a nutshell exactly what's wrong with NS!! On the odd occasion I play out I have no hesitation spinning this, and then maybe the Bootleggers and Helen Moore. As Mark said it's a fantastic Chicago double-sider by Burgess Gardner who can do no wrong in my book. ROD
  20. I have to agree with that. Soul City label for 2006. Here's another from Souldude https://cgi.ebay.com/NORTHERN-SOUL-DARRELL-...1QQcmdZViewItem ROD
  21. Pete,I don't think it is actually Gloria +T's. I did have the LP years ago and I m sure it's the "Im satisfied..." by B.J.Bland. And now I must away as Im DJ-ing tonight at Whalley and Billington Brass Band Club. If anyone fancies popping along I can guarantee it will be a fiasco but all the local djs are now dead or retired and my moment in the dark and freezing rain has arrived. Today the Brass Band club, tomorrow the er... Whippet Fancier's [not in a sexual way] Association premises. ROD
  22. Well the "Losing race" is Tyrone on Sack? Isn't "Do it" one side of Bobbie Jean Bland and thanks to Dave Flynn here's 6 tracks identified:- SACK 4359 Tyrone "Running a losing race"/ I tried it over" SACK 4360 Bobbie Jean Bland "Im satisfied just lovin' you"/"Do it" SACK 4361 Mamie Galore "No right to cry"/ "Do it right now" Im sure there's some other guys out there who have even less of a life than I do who will recognise some of the other tracks. ROD
  23. I now have the Whispers and the Creations. Thanks ROD
  24. John, maybe if you listed the tracks we may be able to make an educated guess re. artists. I assume if it is Tyrone, then maybe it's his Sack 45. ROD
