  1. The originals are "muffled" Mal. Dont know nowt about recording techniques etc but just sounds really top heavy base. That's half the appeal though. ROD
  2. Personally I do it for the groupies and getting a table at the best restaurants. Lets not all get too polarised over this. Main point is to describe record as accurately as possible and stand behind what you sell as would a Yorkshire sheep farmer, though perhaps not quite as close as that. Could be mistaken for..... ROD
  3. Pete E, you'd think so but people who buy records all have different approaches to it. And of course going to extremes. Mello Souls no. "Real humdinger" yes. ROD
  4. I think we are disappearing up our own fundaments here. Its just common sense to describe the 45 accurately to avoid returns. Tiberius I think you're being rather hard on Pete there. I buy off him and he is one of the few where my heart isn't in my mouth when Im opening the packet. Im so fussy I make Premium Stuff look slapdash. Pete knows his customers and in my experience is very accurate with his grading. He tells me if anyone has breathed on it within the last 10 years. The original question was concerning the effect on the value which as PhilD, Nev and Dave Pinch have pointed out is variable. If a beat-up A side barely has an effect in a lot of instances then the B definitely wont. However Im concentrating on the actual grading. The only thing I disagree with on these recent posts is Dave Pinch's [go to naughty step] assertion that it is up to buyer to ask. No its not. Its not up to buyer to ask if WOL or TOL etc so why make an exception for condition of the B side. Of course if when selling you have the full refund no quibble guarantee then the customer is protected. Like Dave Wapples I've had odd 45 that was trashed on B [scratched and clicked]. Actually bought for a mate and despite my advice he kept it. I would have sent it back and advised the seller so. I wouldn't now buy off that seller. And yes it is a ballache having to send stuff back. ROD

Its either for sale or for offers,Biyoune ? If for sale really good idea to put price on here. ROD [Forum Moderator]
  6. Keynsham, spelt K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M. Horace Batchelor! Late 60's AFN from Germany. 30 minute show I think. ROD
  7. I meant that the record should have an overall grade but if it differs between two sides you cant just say its M- because of one side. In our hypothetical case it would be M-/VG+ ROD
  8. Pete what im saying is that if there are defects on B it should be mentioned. So a record that is M- on A but VG+ on B it should be stated preferably with a short description. You wouldn't take the middle road there and call the 45 VG++ [or EX] you'd just list both sides. Sure I see that a lot of the time on Ebay. ROD
  9. I didn't seem to get that problem Dave but it is a while since I sold on there. I guess you could add in BIG LETTERS dont pay by auto checkout. Wait till I contact you. ROD
  10. Me neither. You can get it on b-side of that Joey Kingfish on Connoisseurs. You can then play it and not feel a complete fraud. Sounds like it was recorded underwater. I remember Rick Cooper's car tapeplayer. Every record sounded like it was recorded by Jacques Cousteau. ROD
  11. I think I used to get round it by just using the description box to give postage costs after describing 45 for sale. ROD
  12. He phoned me the rat fink ! But thank you for bearing in mind in future. ROD
  13. Actually if you could not remove the prices please. Members do use sales as a resource to check up on current prices. Thanks ROD [Forum Moderator]
  14. Seen it Scal. If I get a "cant refuse swap" Im doing it. Otherwise I'll save it for you. ROD
  15. Er... Joey is VG++ I'd say. Couple of scuffs. Issue copy with "Sample Copy" sticker on reverse. GONE Lee is M- DJ Dana is M- DJ [red text] GONE Caswell is M- DJ Really nice copies. All originals. Quite happy to send upfront. Looking for 60's Northern but with the emphasis on soul. Must be similar condition. PM if anything to swap. Thanks ROD
  16. On this ad Tezza isnt the place to discuss it. I didn't even mention the VG- Syl Johnson. ROD
  17. Just like to point out here that in no way can a G condition cracked copy of W&W be described as a "nice slab of wax" ROD [Forum Moderator]
  18. Im sure you will be reasonable Dave, but about this X-rated video of Sound of Music video you sold me at Boomerang. I dont think Christopher Plummer in lederhosen is all that explicit. ROD
  19. I reckon Simon the rumour came about purely because it was a quite common 45 that you saw a lot. ROD
  20. Just to avoid any confusion here the site grading and the site policy is that the grade reflects both sides of a 45. To be honest I hadn't the slightest idea that there may be people out there who would describe a 45 as M- if B-side was in a lesser condition. It is an overall grade for the record, not just one side. Any defects should be pointed out before sale to avoid buyers receiving goods they may otherwise have not bought. I see Mr. Rimmer did the right thing by standing behind what he sold and refunding but it all could have been avoided if the "crackles" had been mentioned. As for how value is affected by problems with the B-side I would say that depends entirely on demand for the 45, value, and the person who is buying it. I wouldn't assume that because a seller feels that the b-side is unimportant that the buyer is of the same opinion. I dont think this is likely to be something that occurs regularly. In my experience conditions of A and B sides tend to be overall very similar. Sellers can ask what they want for a 45 but if you are charging something like book value for a M- 45 you cant really ignore it if the other side is not in that condition, particularly if we are talking numerous marks or scratches. That should be stated to avoid disputes arising. ROD [Forum Moderator]
  21. NO. This is bumping. Please next time just edit your original post. Do not add an extra post. Thank you Rod [Forum Moderator]
  22. Recently on Ebay sold for £190. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-FRANK-DELL-HE-BROKE-YOUR-GAME-LISTEN-RARE-/160963936477?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=idSEg12%252FJxiNJu154FErfsC6UxY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc ROD
  23. I think this would have less appeal than an orig Okeh except amongst a limited set of buyers. So I'd rate the same. ROD
  24. Depends on sound deterioration really. Up to you though I'd punt for VG+ Nice unmarked vinyl but crackles blah blah. Whatever you think on listening. ROD
