Value Please
If you check Popsike I think top price with sleeve for Mint is around £125 so £225 seems a lot to me. I got whole thing for £56 I think off Ebay but it was 4-5 years ago. ROD

Moses Smith Girl Across The Street
Rick, I got a bit mixed up with mother master, stamper in previous posts. Got it now. From that I assume engravings etchings on master and then mother are the same but then stampers could differ and it is the stampers that give the#'s on the vinyl. SI and P., Well I'd say those are originals then but I don't think my mate's is. Im going to re-check his has NO LW despite A-side having correct markings. I did look at it thoroughly last time but I'll make sure. As Rick says stampers may have differenty markings but the poor sound quality on his tends me toward boot. Been in touch with John again. I don't have his guide and no idea if it mentions LW on B-side. ROD

To be honest Steve I've no real idea what that means as far as original v. boot. Im right in saying then that apart from the D# and LW the b-side has no other markings but the A-side has the D#, LW BF and A which is exactly as my demo, so presumably you have the original issue. However my mate's has all the markings on A-side but no LW on B-side so is his a boot? Or is it as Rick infers that masters wear out and some original regular issues were pressed up using a different master for the B-side only. What's the sound quality like on yours? John M actually PM'd me today so no doubt he's looking at this thread and hopefully he can sort it out.

I always carried a micrometer, a slide rule and a table of logarithms. Im not particularly interested in the finer points myself but I did mull this over today. As I understand you there are master plates but they wear out so new ones are made from the mother. If that's right then this particular copy my mate had could only be explained by using the same plate as used for the demo "Girl across.. side and a different plate for the other side as the deadwax does not have LW like the demo. As you say though if it looks like boot... It doesn't particularly and it has the same markings on "Girl.." side as the demo. BUT it sounds rubbish compared to the demo. I wonder if people on here who think they have an original because of the A-side markings have checked the other side for LW and whether they've listened to the regular copy alongside the demo. ROD

Would You Play This Out
You don't look through the sales on here? ROD

Would You Play This Out
You mean it's a version? Sounds familiar tune. Is it something like "Then only then" which was a beat ballad that got a few plays in the 80's/90's originating out of Jamaican scene. Very vague recollection. J.B.Love on Congress but I can't find a clip to compare ROD

Of course it matters what's in the dead wax. I knew there was something fishy about you when you couldn't recite the ZTSC #'s for the entire Golden World catalogue that time. As I remember you were adamant "Spellbound" was 106735 when it was 107635. Rather an elementary mistake, which completely took the shine off the fact that you got all the others right. You didn't dare show your face for weeks. I understand your explanation re masters from mother as to different markings. My only interest was to establish whether my mate's copy was the original. He was owed money. Here's a MS orig at £X. Was it worth that. There was a big difference in sound quality. Very muffled compared to the demo. You could barely hear that tinkling cymbal or whatever it is. And it did sound slightly faster, or at least I thought it did and so did my mate who had pointed that out to me before Gene replied. Apart from that though very hard to say and Im really no wiser. Hope you're well ROD

Thanks Gene. He's still here with it. Played it and we think it is faster. It's certainly nowhere near the audio quality of the dj copy. It does have all the markings though on the A-side as mentioned above in the thread but as I said not on the b-side which as no LW like demo. ROD

Moses Smith Girl Across The Street
A mate just brought a copy round for me to look at. It has the BF etc but the other side only has DMOS 2 scratched in whilst my demo has LW as well. Vinyl is not the same as demo and label is also attached differently. Is the regular he has still the original. ROD

Jackey Beavers I Need My Revilot
Not quite sure what you're trying to say there. Condition always enters into it. You can see that from prices. Im really not bothered if something I own is bootlegged. What Im saying is [and point is also made by Mark on Ivorys thread] it's dumb in the extreme to spend lots of money on poor condition [VG and below] 45s just because owning an original carries some kudos or it's something popular on the dance floor. Obviously that doesn't apply to one or two very very rare items or something spectacular that is new to everybody.

No still got lots but have sold a few over last few years for sorting out the odd financial necessity. It just doesn't bother me if like JB they're re-issued and I have them. I only buy M or M- and for my own pleasure. I get just as much enjoyment from a £5 45 as a £500 45 as long as they fit in with my collecting. Like Chalky though I don't see the point in shelling out for VG copies of rarities that have been played to death anyway. You may as well play a legal re-issue and save your money for something different.

Jackey Beavers I Need My Revilot
No, you thought wrong. It evolved from what turned out to be surprisingly easy records to get hold of. With the benefit of hindsight of course. And whilst I do remember a time when a boot devalued the original it's not been that way for quite a time other than dj flavour of the month 45s sometimes suffer if demand is satisfied either through originals turning up or bootlegs/re-issues. I kinda see 45s as collectible value + X for demand. ROD

James Bounty (Original?)
I can only see an "R" stamp on mine. Misunderstood Ernie's post. Thought he meant there were other letters stamped on original as well as "R". Seems H and I would be original as well as long as not boot with H. ROD

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
I think Richard is confusing tripe with utter tripe, now complicated by the injection of complete shite as Dave has pointed out.

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
I think he's referring to me Jaco but his post was poorly expressed as is to be expected from a moron who had to re-sit his "A" levels. I don't recall Richard ever asking me previously but if he did I probably ignored him in case he went out and bought it. He has enough awful records in his collection as it is. The only person I know with a large collection, the value of which starts with a minus sign. ROD

Nev, Are you taking the lower matrix # as A-side? It is in this case, and I was always led to believe that this is how it works. However I was checking through my Revilot and I noticed that "Our Love" matrix is lower than "Open the door..." [on grey] but "Open" is the A side? ROD

Your proposition is true for loads of 45s which continue to turn up. I have noticed copies going through Ebay but a lot have looked f**ked. Think Diggin' Dave had a copy recently in poor condition. As for comparison to Parliaments the first time someone gives a JB for a Parliaments DJ I'll believe the Parliaments is more desirable because it's rarer.

T 17 Mla 'v' Milton Parker
Talking of Milton Parker I have his first 45 on the Pfoforeux label. It uses the same backing track as "women like it harder". Andy Dyson mentioned the label to me some years back and I've managed to collect the complete if short run of releases. 001 Milton Parker I just wanna dance with you 002 Cautions Get out on the floor 003 Jimmy Mack My world is on fire Voc&instr [local release before Palmer] 004 Dale Warren I''ll just say goodbye 005 Lada Edmund Jr. Do the Duck All the releases are exceptional Northern and legendary to the cognescenti in collecting circles. Unfortunately I have no spares but has luck would have it our car number plate is PF04 EUX. Highly desirable and I am open to offers.

Best Dj's 2010
I don't think there's any other way to realise Dave is on than by peering over the decks. Too proud to stand on a box like Butch. I remember back in 94 all clubbing together to buy him a grow-bag for Xmas.If it works for Spanish tomatoes.... I don't think I've ever come across a guy you could offload complete rubbish on with a more open ear for something good and playable. ROD

The Ad Libs " Appreciation"
I think Dave's valuation would be based on a Mint copy. As you mention VG which is way down the grading scale you can reduce "under a tenner" to "almost nowt" IMO. ROD

Can We Have A Wheel Thread? I'd Like To Hear What Was Played
OK I didn't go to the Wheel but I did go to the Moon in Duckinfield, Birdcage in Ashton and Poco Poco in Stockport from '69 to '71. The clientelle was made up of a lot of Wheel lads and I recognise loads of those records from then. I can definitely state that I bought Gloria Jones for £1 in 1970 in Ralph's Records in Stockport off "Scotch Joe" and "Little Louis" who assured me it was a Wheel sound and if you'd have seen them you wouldn't have begged to differ! At the same time I bought "Here she comes" CP DJ also as a Wheel sound from them and ended up swapping it for "Darrell Banks "Angel baby" with Al Burkehead. Im assuming Brian when he says Tib St means that little shop with other outlets in Oldham and Ashton [Jim [Dobbs?] was his name I think and his wife was usually behind the counter]. When I worked in Manchester from Sept '71 It always had oddball imports but I did pop in once or twice prior to that. Dave Withers, McCadden and me got in his "warehouse" at the back of the shop in Ashton that John Hillel took over. Can't remember exact date but Carolines was on then in Manchester. Full of imports and we got 40+ Lenny Curtis plus others. So I'd say Tib St was a source for Northern from quite early on. Francis T could probably add info too. ROD
