Hello Love - The Majestics/monitors
I had 2 cuts of this on cassette back from first Motown unissued lot. Not right for then IMO. Gave Steve Jeffries copy of tape few years back I think with both cuts on. I think he may do carvers if you get in touch with him. If he still has it of course ROD

Rufus Wonder Under The Moon
Im assuming that's cos they copied lettering on much later "dark blue" bootleg from Lendo copy. As far as I know copies turned up more like 25 years ago and maybe earlier. Found by Larry Pietowski [Ray] on a Detroit flea along with "Do you want a boy" and "So What"by Carl Carlton. He sent me copy of each and "So what" went to Guy as an unknown so that hopefully gives an idea of when. Few years later in a garage in Detroit and amidst other rare 45s were 5 copies of the Rufus on Lendo. Seller had had them for years ROD

Who Discovered What ?
I think that should be played by Dave and I at Stafford. Got it off a mate in LA along with Monique. Pretty sure Richard didn't have it. ROD
-
Who Discovered What ?
No Richard had it and I got it off him around 1980 when he started going more toward modern. He did it play it at wigan but it didn't really go down too well. Too fast as someone else said. ROD

Who Discovered What ?
Actually I think I had that first and sold it Gary [or a mate of his] in Wigan record bar. I thought it was OK but a bit too doo-woppy in parts. £8 I think. Got it off a guy in Fla. called Jose Lopez. I used to send him UK disco for 60's and 70's soul. He had my wants list but would insist on sending me shit like the Cairos I'd never heard of. I also got the Frank Howard off him and sold it to Sam at a Ritz all-dayer. The UK hit was Indigo studios in Manchester. We did get all the soul stuff really but told Richard because he'd been going in there whilst working for RCA but had never bothered going upstairs where the 45s were. There were also loads of rare pop but weren't intested. We got the tip from some guy who'd had a Doris Troy outta there a few years before but he was no longer into soul. There was no TMG stuff though. Supposedly Johnny Hamp's stuff from either Top of the Pops or RSG when it was recorded at Plymouth Grove in Manchester. ROD

Jackie Lee
It's not THE Jackie Lee, I can tell you that. Pretty sure I found and played years ago and it was pop and maybe piano instr. Defo not soul. ROD

Priced To Sell! Tempos - I'll Never Forget - Diamond Jim Dr 8792
It states VG-, Mark. $700 must be going rate I suppose in that condition. From the picture it looks quite nice but if it is really VG- $700 seems a lot to me. ROD

Winfield Parker On Ebay
I found 5 copies in I think Roadhouse Oldies in Baltimore around end of 80's.. Asked owner where he got them and Winfield luckily had left his tele #. ROD

The Fames-Two Timin Lover (Pyramid)
I like it but perhaps the lead is just on the wrong side of "wimpy" although the backing vocals do save it. It's also a long way away from that track Wrighty posted which seemed to be accepted as a good allnighter record on here. Personally I think this is a 1000 times better. I'd keep it and I'd play it my mates but whether it would go in a club and garner a following Im not sure. ROD

Don Renaldo Strings - Fiddlin Around - Ran
It were massive for a while. Instr to Nu-rons isn't it? ROD

Ebay Warming ! Watch Out Guys
Are these records rare then? Im a bit like Dave A. in that they seem rather an ordinary bunch? Modern isn't my thing but I do recognise quite a few 45s like Pictures, Patches,Bobby Finch etc that are pretty common, aren't they? ROD

Overseas Ns Scenes
Wouldn't the "acid test" be which new to us records are played over here that have been popular on overseas NS scenes. Im not including popcorn or beach in that. ROD

Just Another Bootleg
Any info about bootleg please. My copy is plain white [no lines]. NOT a DJ copy. ZTSP 95192-1B scratched in. No mention of "Embee" at all. ROD

Jimmy Mack, Is It Really That Rare
A bit harsh of Mark but I prefer B-side which is same track as Dave Hall on Sound. ROD

Its Hard To Impress A Woman If You Don't Know Her
If by "impress" he means "romance" then stick some pretty midtempo stuff on mostly by guys singing about love etc but not getting knickers off or anything like that. If however he means to impress with his selection of rare quality soul could you not ring a mate and borrow some. ROD

Dena Barnes - 'these Heartaches'
I don't remember that really Tony but as usual judging from this thread I was wrong!! That may have been the night though where we agreed that the bags with beer towel look was a real breakthrough in style innovation. No one is inferring it is an unissued Detroit thing? It is a Simon jobbie. Was it recorded underwater? I am a technical muppet but is there any way that the vocal was speeded up at the time. Could it be Duke or was it a real if terrible singer. I know he speeded Epitome up at the time as Moses Smith but that was both backing and vocal wasn't it. Although vocal didn't sound "odd"; from memory anyway. ROD

Trading Standards
Now that is interesting. Have you actually followed it up to see whether he was correct. What about the other sellers at the venue. Have a look at this https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7450112.stm ROD

Lily Fields On Kent
Yes I got that Benji but it doesn't negate my point. Why "key player" and not for instance the dj's at Kingsway? ROD
-
Lily Fields On Kent
Im not so sure about "badly managed" but I do wonder about the efficacy of Ady limiting all these unreleased tracks to exclusive selective dj use for a longish period of time. If and by the time they make it to vinyl I would have thought they'd be maybe out of favour somewhat with the upfront crowd. It might be worth a punt at putting a real good track out straight away on vinyl and giving the opportunity for any dj to play it which IMO would get it a wider audience immediately and hopefully more of a buzz being brand new. As a lot of the stuff Ady does put out does tend toward a more traditional NS sound I woulda thought there was a potential audience outside the odd allnighter. On the other hand I don't run a well-respected record label so what do I know. ROD
