  1. It states VG-, Mark. $700 must be going rate I suppose in that condition. From the picture it looks quite nice but if it is really VG- $700 seems a lot to me. ROD

  6. I like it but perhaps the lead is just on the wrong side of "wimpy" although the backing vocals do save it. It's also a long way away from that track Wrighty posted which seemed to be accepted as a good allnighter record on here. Personally I think this is a 1000 times better. I'd keep it and I'd play it my mates but whether it would go in a club and garner a following Im not sure. ROD
  7. It were massive for a while. Instr to Nu-rons isn't it? ROD
  8. Are these records rare then? Im a bit like Dave A. in that they seem rather an ordinary bunch? Modern isn't my thing but I do recognise quite a few 45s like Pictures, Patches,Bobby Finch etc that are pretty common, aren't they? ROD
  9. Wouldn't the "acid test" be which new to us records are played over here that have been popular on overseas NS scenes. Im not including popcorn or beach in that. ROD
  10. Thanks lads. Mine is #3 on styrene. ROD
  11. Any info about bootleg please. My copy is plain white [no lines]. NOT a DJ copy. ZTSP 95192-1B scratched in. No mention of "Embee" at all. ROD
  12. A bit harsh of Mark but I prefer B-side which is same track as Dave Hall on Sound. ROD
  13. If by "impress" he means "romance" then stick some pretty midtempo stuff on mostly by guys singing about love etc but not getting knickers off or anything like that. If however he means to impress with his selection of rare quality soul could you not ring a mate and borrow some. ROD
  14. I don't remember that really Tony but as usual judging from this thread I was wrong!! That may have been the night though where we agreed that the bags with beer towel look was a real breakthrough in style innovation. No one is inferring it is an unissued Detroit thing? It is a Simon jobbie. Was it recorded underwater? I am a technical muppet but is there any way that the vocal was speeded up at the time. Could it be Duke or was it a real if terrible singer. I know he speeded Epitome up at the time as Moses Smith but that was both backing and vocal wasn't it. Although vocal didn't sound "odd"; from memory anyway. ROD
  15. Now that is interesting. Have you actually followed it up to see whether he was correct. What about the other sellers at the venue. Have a look at this https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7450112.stm ROD

  17. Yes I got that Benji but it doesn't negate my point. Why "key player" and not for instance the dj's at Kingsway? ROD
  18. Im not so sure about "badly managed" but I do wonder about the efficacy of Ady limiting all these unreleased tracks to exclusive selective dj use for a longish period of time. If and by the time they make it to vinyl I would have thought they'd be maybe out of favour somewhat with the upfront crowd. It might be worth a punt at putting a real good track out straight away on vinyl and giving the opportunity for any dj to play it which IMO would get it a wider audience immediately and hopefully more of a buzz being brand new. As a lot of the stuff Ady does put out does tend toward a more traditional NS sound I woulda thought there was a potential audience outside the odd allnighter. On the other hand I don't run a well-respected record label so what do I know. ROD
  19. I wasn't being serious. Think maybe zero tolerance or leave it to Paul and Ady to protect their rights. No point getting worked up about the odd seller. Nightwatch is like my baby. One of first things I conned sold to Richard along with Peter Jarrett at the same time. And people blame Russ!! ROD
  20. Im amazed no one has bought the Lyndell 45. One of the best 45s ever made! In my defence Im unemployed and broke and am anal retentive when it comes to Mint only. Why has it not sold? ROD
  21. Ged to use your analogy I think it's more why stop some burglars and allow others unlimited access. There's a link on here now that takes you to a site with dodgy looking re-issues. I think you've seen it. Before I get both barrels back bear in mind you're already in my bad books for slating Nightwatch. ROD

Here's the story behind that The Blenders only release on Jay-Dee, in August 1953, consisted of the final two sides that had been recorded for Joe Davis back in March: "You'll Never Be Mine Again" and "Don't Play Around With Love." At that same session, Davis had them record a raunchier version (entitled "Don't Fuck Around With Love"), which he planned to send to disc jockeys as an under-the-table release. After this side found its way onto a Kelway release in 1971, Davis himself released the song (on his Davis label) in 1973. ROD
  23. The orig should have scratched in 205-1726, then something that looks like "COS" [with a fancy "C"] scratched in, then a small stamp Nashville Matrix [least I think it's matrix: looks like Matria] and then 75 scratched in. Think Nashville Matrix is most important thing to have. There is a green look-alike and a kinda red/purple boot too ROD

Here's one of my faves but only because I used to get really good soul 45s for the album "Dart Attack" that this track appeared on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mwe73cMLXE0 They all have this kinda beat. Futures "Party time man" and Drifters "Pour your little heart out" were big too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUH-aZEK-58 Poppy disco really. Although they also played a lot of jump R&B stuff too.
