Roger Eagle's View Of The Emerging Ns Scene
Although not so relevant back in the 70's. Im not quite sure what actual tracks I was listening to back in '76 at Wigan and the Mecca but pretty sure those I liked were mainly Black Music albeit uptempo but they didn't all sound the same to me then and don't now. I read Roger was putting Echo & Bunneymen, OMD and similar pop groups on in Liverpool at that time. Back in '68/69 he was something to do with the Magic Village in Manchester which was an "underground" [rock] venue playing the Nice amongst others. Exactly the reason I got into soul in the first place cos 6th form was full of "underground" types listening to dreary music based on old blues riffs. I too have spoken to him when he came down to my shop in Manchester back in the 90's. He didn't appear to have a clue about Northern and as that's mostly Black Music encompassing most of the major soul artists of past 40 odd years I'd question the tag "Black music fanatic", although I'd give him "Blues and R&B affectianado". I don't think his views on the scene or the music carry any more weight than some other outsider with no experience or liking for the genre. ROD

Ebay Doing Well This Week
Is it not cheaper to just sell at a set price if you have a reserve in mind. It may not have been a soul 45 for all I know but if it were I'd always use SS rather than Ebay. ROD

How Does Your Other Half View......... Soul
Way before we met. If I'd known her then I certainly wouldn't have been phased by the top predator of the African savannah. Any doubts about my story could be quashed in an instant if Francis T. would only post on that thread. He was there, albeit screaming like a girl used to do back in those old 50's horror movies, which I now accept was a gross caricature and misrepresentation since undergoing extensive re-education at Camp Clare, and was almost back in Stockport before I'd clocked it was a real lion. ROD On reflection maybe I embellished his reaction to make my leap backward over the counter the more manly and heroic. Just in case he does read this.

Clare was a regular in Mr. M's and her favourite record is 7th Wonder "Captain of my ship". I've not spoken to her since before we were married. ROD

How Many Known Copies Of Arthur Willis?
Don't tell me to F88K off you pr*ck. I said "imagine" clueless. At such a young age I doubted you'd have had much experience of listening to Northern and going to venues to get a feel for it. F88king moron!!! ROD

How Many Known Copies Of Arthur Willis?
Yep I found it at Ye Olde Clocke Shoppe in Kannapolis NC around 91/92. Knew the guys in there very well through getting them Beach 45s. Been through place a few times but just happened to look under a table and behind some mags there were a few boxes I'd not seen. Mostly Beach but a lot of oddball 45s. Got the Willis and that blue label thing "Little something or other" which I saved for Butch. And yes I though it had a slight reggae feel which I think is why I liked it. Also got the Sadler Panther 45 which I think Phil Wainwright got off me and a few others like Johnny Hoyle [i think]. Can't remember too well now but around 30 decent 45s. If Agent is the guy who sold another to Barry James then by my calculation he was only 26/27 at the time and I imagine clueless when it came to Northern. And now for the controversy. Most of them were or are clueless without the price guides anyway!! Very few I'd trust to tell me what a good unknown record is. ROD

Eddie Parker - Love You Baby
I'd get off your high horse if I were you. No one has come on to say Simon has ripped them off too. I don't know him at all All the guy wants to do is send you the 45 back for you to check it is the original or not, and hopefully prove it was the copy you sent. I see nowt wrong with that. If you were then sure it wasn't, you coulda just sent it back. I actually think you've been unhelpful and coulda sorted this a long time ago. Mike recently posted about dealings on SS and too many disputes of this kind undermine confidence for all of us IMO. I've only dealt with you the once and perfect transaction so Im not doing you down. Just surprised you can't see your responsibility in this. Despite your obvious anger I do think you're now doing the right thing. ROD

Should All Dj`s Get Paid For Their Spots?
You wouldn't know an antirrhiinum from a myosotis!! I certainly can't remember seeing you at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1978. Your post is just a plant to divert attention from that rather unexpected contratemps that just broke out. Clare is seeing to the bulbs she bought recently. Most of them are on their last stems as far as I can see. ROD

Ian Levine On 6 Music Tonight
Hey, I hope you're not including me in that. Didn't expect him to play carvers and only replied to James that I thought Parliaments sounded muffled compared to the rest of the stuff. I think in the context of the argument on SS between Ian and James, There was no sign of the 400 or whatever "newies". There was nothing new 60's wise to me and even though I know bugger-all about 70's only Impact, James Lovejoy and Latimore track were new too. You may be right that Ian didn't set out to showcase all new stuff but if I'd been at loggerheads with James and others I certainly would have done. That spot in a club with the odd tweak woulda suited me down to the ground. I think it came well within James' reflections on the current scene where there is no oldies V. Newies but just good records delivered by enthusiastic and passionate djs. ROD

Soulsations "Here comes the pain" on Ste-al. $125 on Moerer's list. Great record but bit slow for dance floor. So Chalky what's the score with Singleton track. Unissued or what? ROD

Eddie Parker - Love You Baby
Yes Simon Im not doubting you. All Im saying is that for the independent reader it's hard to tell what went on. However I did say that those who know you will have made up their minds and those you've bought off on SS will also know they've had problem-free transactions with you so some suspicion can only fall on Marc which isn't good for him if he continues to sell 45s on here. The earlier date of posting also counters some of Marc's argument. A scan of package with date and illegible address would aid your case I guess. ROD
