I used to sell that as a new release...that's on the Italian Greenline label (GCH prefix) from the late 80's. They released around x100 Chess family titles in total.

I believe that is an 80's press for the Carolina market...the vinyl and print reflect its age. As pointed out by others, the Rite pressed deep red label copies (0069 and 0070) are the 60's originals.

True, and alongside that the easy reference tool that is Popsike.Couple those with the here-to-stay poor economic climate and methinks the price printed guides are looking more and more out of touch...but then again as soon as something goes into print it becomes out of date, so to speak, so this is NOT knocking the price guides.

Watching clips like these...and the many on Carolina Shagging...it does beg the question as to why Northern Soul dancing developed as a singular activity rather than as couples. Surely the early influences via TV and visiting GIs showed couples dancing? Discuss.

I'm not 100% certain as it has been a loooong time since I played 'Look away', but the version on the Kent LPs is different (and better) to the Scepter 45...or am I thinking of the Chiffons' 'Keep the boy happy'...or maybe both of them are like that!?!

Funny you should mention bike shops, as my research on Japanese record retailers landed up with the fact that the record companies initially used watch and bike shops to stock their players, needles and discs. They did this as these two trades already had good sites and established trade. You've also just reminded me of a shop I used to visit off the Old Kent Road in the mid-8Ts...a newsagents that also jsut happened to have 1000's of UK shop stock in label order behind the counter. Mick Smith had hit it many years earlier, but I got plenty out of there including Shane Martin on CBS and Roy Hamilton on MGM...and two of the three Bowie Pye 45s as well.

Nice I always dreamt that it may have come out in Japan, but alas the release files say no. However, I did find an Okeh demo over here which is ink-stamped in Japanese stating that it was 'not for sale' and a 'promo'...maybe it was once under consideration for a J-release and this was the sample file copy...that's what I'll keep telling myself any how!

I'm collecting the 60's LP releases on Japanese Tamla Motown (as well as the 45s and EPs!), which is roughly x100 titles oddly enough. I'm almost complete...the first couple of years was tough mind as I had no listing to work from! I used to search all the obvious artists until it boiled down to three five missing numbers...after much digging two turned out to be from Hugh Masekela, one from Sammy Davis Jr and the final two were actually non-assigned numbers with no clues as to what they may have been! UK LP wise, I do find them over here including early Marvelettes, Miracles and Vandellas, but they tend to carry premium prices due to the 'novelty' of them being UK pressed! If anyone has a wants list for the tougher earlier numbers give me a shout!

Sadly, the 60's Chess family releases did not actually appear on the Chess logo in Japan...they saw release via the Globe label, which covered many labels and genre.Here's a solid center EP:

TOO RIGHT Tony! Is there a Northern collection out there without a Major Lance 45/LP in it?! 'Delilah' really is the bees knees...the piano work is spine-chillingly fab...those tinkling ivories appear again on the slower 'You belong to me my love' found on the flipside of 'Come See'. Five of his Okeh 45's escaped in Japan on Columbia back in the day and later still two of the Playboy label discs. Sadly, and quite surprisingly, no other Okeh label output emerged over here...criminal!

It's a great track and in fairness I think will appeal to many a collector who likes a nice low-down shuffling R'n'B sound...love the bassline! All things considered it's gotta be a safe £50/£75 nowadays maybe...what does Tim put on it?

Used to be fairly cheap/available during the 8Ts...£8/£15...have had yellow stock copies and WDs. The TiChauns was always the harder one on the label. Oddly enough it was also the inspiration behind behind calling Delores Ealy on Velvet, 'Fran Oliver - Searching For My Man', as they have a similar vocal approach.
