  1. Well great album this had it around 6 years now the northern track " Why did i lie " was originally played by me way back in the early 80's covered up as Riley Hampton " I never should have lied " i later sold it to one Mr Dyson after he pested me for it for several weeks . I have been playing the second mentiond track " Get hep to love " covered as The Cashmeres " Boy you'd better get smart 2 for the last 3 years at various local nights. this track is a nice mid-tempo group vocal that has huge potental , i will be spinning it in the rare room a skeggy next week atb steve
  2. fast version on 7" hbr miss print was first played by rob smith way back in 11978 at notts tiffany;s monday night sessions the record came from a notts collector whom collected mainley west coast labels mirwood, renfro, etc. this and rodd keith " the lord said " both came out of this collection when the guy sold up . he was a good friend of john poole his name was mick gordon , me and rob pulled some great unknowns at the time from the collection back to earl gains the album is called the best of luck to you H.B.R MONO 8508 / STEREO 9508 the miss pressed 45 is titled " don't take my kindness for a weakness "
  3. r.i.p silas the voice behind a record thats possibly had more impact on the scene in the last 27 years since it was first played than any other since. just oozes quality imho ,been after this for 27 years one day i will own a copy
  4. what really bugs me about repeated tunes a venues is apart from not listening to what'sbeen played . lack of imagination and the dinosaur factor is that some of these d.j's turn up with enough records to do a whole weeks worth of soul music ???????? come on guy's if your carrying that many tunes play something different . why carry all those tunes if your gonna play whats already been played
  5. Hi Russ that's what i heard to but can't find any documented proof , if there isnt you'd have thought there would have been some sort of law suit issued for use of group name
  6. Here's one for you all do you think there's any connection between the current group the black eyed peas and the group that recorded " the smallest man alive " ultra city was wondering if the 2 groups where connected in anyway .thoughts please guys
  7. if oldies are played 2 or 3 times in a night be it a nighter or a soul night the bloody d.j's want shooting there's no need thousands of oldies aint seen the light of day for years , it's just plain ignorance , lack of knowledge and said d.j's just turning up for thier set's then off home that bring about this situation . i agree with russ if it's a new big sound play it at beginning and end of your set will help break it quicker.
  8. Hi Russ , I know what your on about and probably who with respects too our area, there are genuine charity nights , but like you say certain people seem to use them as a spring board to start up yet another soul night
