the copy i saw go for 150 was to a garage collector, i keep searching for another copy as well should be played more imho

I thought there was something wrong with this, the original label does not have red open and closed brackets around the song title, the original is owned by Carl Fortnum first played by jim wensoria at notts rockcity mid 80's covered as patti austin, he sold it rob marriott who sold it keb, as far as i know it came from kev roberts along with the sani sheldon standing in the need of love acetae . i have one of the cuts with the original label. and yes it is the adlibs as chalky said.

originally played at stafford by gary rushbrooke covered up as david and the giants never court on so i brought it off him covered it as detroit soul played it from 84 to 86 as that seen it go for 150 just recently atb steve

I don't think you actually understand what I said as we seem to agree on some issues even though you are saying I don't!!!! (Personal interpritation of music) I do not have a problem with people enjoying themselves as that is what it is about at the end of the day but I, like many others think there should be progression, bring the scene into the present not live in the past! the music will still continue to be played but can be mixed with more up todate sounds! As you say you enjoy funky house etc! I still enjoy 60's especially undiscovered sounds like what Butch discovers! Spinning is not just in our style of music it is in most styles of music I think you will find. My point about acrobatics is that it looks quite old & tired & generally does not fit in to todays sounds, mainly the mid tempo ones. I don't attend some venues purely for that reason that there is to much emphasis on retro sounds, but that is just my personal choice. It seems we agree that dancing comes from within, so whats your opinion on these northern soul dance classes????? Surely these will have everyone dancing the same! One last thing I think you will find that I have not been personal in my response to you, unlike your good self!

no mate sammy is still going strong and was @ stoke last month on the floor,carl piper is still active as a dancer,last saw him @ alderley edge,casper was @ black bee in manchester,chippy was stutting his stuff @ highfield WYS soul night-need i go on.i disagree with your statement that it has "no place on todays scene"_thats like saying fast records or 70s tunes havent either,its part and parcel of our "DANCE" scene Ok what I actually said was they took a break from the scene, I know all of them, some of them very well! Regarding the "fast records" I am all for new 60's, 70's, up to 2k being played-thats what you call progression! If you knew me, you would know I spin in my dancing too-so no I would not say spinning is not dancing! Now as for the kids..... my step son is one of the youngest dj's to ever dj at the 100 Club. He has his own style of dance/dress, not copying anyone, he just dances how he feels when the music is played! Surely that is what everyone does??? Another point if it was a dance culture then surely wouldn't everyone dance the same? All the dancers named above have very different styles from one another! I am in great support of this scene, which I have been into for over 38 years now, but long to see progression musically, as do many others with the inclusion of the younger generation. Why should they dress rectro and dance like older generations just to be accepted into the scene? A visit down London may enlighten you alittle!

theres only a few old folk who can still pull it off acrobatic wise,tommo,sammy dee,carl piper,casper,chippy,keb.curly,and a hand full of others, apart from keb and curly the rest of these vanished on and off the scene after wigan shut cant say the rest ventured to stafford , 100 club etc acrobatics aint dancin just falling over in style and has no place on today's scene when will people realise the scene has moved on , the young kids shouldn't be copying this style of dance , dancing comes from within , do your own thing . just like the clothes they wear let the past be the past :thumbup: :thumbup:

russ ,len chalky . you haven't got it wrong the masses have lost their way , when they left the scene after the demise of the casino. while the likes of us kept finding new sounds they missed out and when they returned they expected it to be just the same, because of that break they didnt get to hear all those wonderful sounds that turned up in the 80's & 90's, some of them are just discovering some of the great sounds played at stafford all be it 30 years to late. we can live in hope that one day the scene will retrurn to its original ethos. there nothing wrong with oldies it's the fact that a lot of the d.j's playing them have forgotten they have 4o years worth to choose from thousands of records not the same 500 please :thumbup: :thumbup:

here we go this all boils down to the sad state the scene is in in the early days of our scene every record was a new record and everyone danced then the unthinkable happened , the casino closed for good !!!!!!! shock horror the scene died and anything played anywhere else was not soul ? yeah right the people who whinge about new records being play need to get a grip on reality it's what the scene is about, yea new records may not fill a floor on first play anymore but that doesn't mean people aint listening and enjoying them. stick with them or the scene will truley die, the people that complain are the same one's with bags covered in patches of places the never went to . nuff said :ohmy: :ohmy: :ohmy:

thats right mate tim had it of rob for def any idea who he sold it to ? and jim did have it before rob for some reason he didn't plat it much probably due to the amount of quality tunes he had at the time

I think Steve Phillis has a or Robs old copy sure he's played it befor, he's speedlimit on here ] hi baz n chalky, only just seen this by chance 6 years too late lol the original acetate was definitely on cutlass, not sure think, tim ashebendie had it of rob, he did me a cut before he sold it, as it was my favourite sound of the time still got it and play it out occasionally , as this is top quality group soul and deserves to be played atb steve

this is september 1986 remember it well. It was the first tonys nighter run by guy h and ian t. me ( steve phillis and kitch ) at the beginning out side then 1 37 in me dancing next to the guy in red hooped t shirt 1.48 my feet spinning this was the night the mello souls was first unleashed upon use covered as the del-larks along with fred & the turbines covered as the teenturbans the devotions covered as the magictones along with a shed load of other great tunes 4 .40 in a young carl fortnum 4.50 gary zabroski from wellingborough 7.50 the wee mr darge just coming out a spin the film crew where trying most of the night to catch him in full flight on the floor they got some great footage but never used most of it mad me laugh when i first saw this you have guy d.jing with kebs voice lol great memories steve
