  1. Who wants recognition from someone as inept as Nelson anyway? As long as the artists are happy with how the scene treats their music (which from Sidney Barnes, Gwen Owens, and Lou Prides reactions I'd say they largely, are) then thats all the props you need, surely. The impression I got from Nelson's childish behaviour on that awful series was that he will only give something credit, if a.) he can make some moolah out of it, and b.) he gets personal recognition for it. If he wants to challenge that let him present a series that actually properly explores the history of soul music in this country from the perspective of both the black and white fans without making comments which clearly show his immaturity and lack of passion for the subject. For example, the Northern episode could have benefitted from interviews with ordinary black British soul fans, who could of given their perspective of how they see the scene and what they think of the records. That would of at least counteracted his biased mumblings. No ones suggesting it should of just been northern fans gushing about how great it all is, but there was no balance to the structure of the programme. But I also reckon its the fault of the programme makers. It suggested none of them really cared about the subject at all. Cheers, Joel
  2. The Hector Riviera is a really hard record to get...... Also got to agree the David Coleman is superb.....deserves more exposure, although it has had a fair bit in the mod clubs. Also very fond of the Harvey Averne....looks like theres a queue forming for that one too... Out of interest, isn't the Rocky Gil on Teardrop a latin group, and also The Enchantments on Faro.....?

Tim's one is the Updown copy which has the heavy duty brasswork in it, the Hull one dosen't have that, hence the price difference. Still good price for the Hull copy though. I think TB books the Updown at £700 but its no more than a £500 record top whack really, quite a few have turned up on ebay, and I sold a M- one a month ago for £400 on the nose.

  19. Fingers crossed they don't make a hash of it. I'm sure the music/dance scenes will be top notch but lets hope the 'comedy' isn't of the usually British film comedy quality. ie: cringeworthy. If its good it could be the scenes very own Quadrophenia

I bought the issue off Joe a few months back. One of the best British soul sounds I've heard after Chapter 5. I asked about and heard that £200 would be right, but no more. No idea on a demo, but its seems Damien got good money for it. If someone can turn me another up @ anything under £100 I'll have it no questions asked, especially now its been pressed on The Mousetrap Anniverasry 45.
