As for the credibility jibe. If the Northern Soul scene doesnt have credibilty, what does it have? 'Surely our scene attracts a certain type of individual. We seek out something thats a little differnt to the norm. We enjoy the fact that our scene and music is different to anything the majority of people we meet could ever understand. Being different, is seen by many as being better. Like the old mod ethic of moving onward and upward. this is what the Northern Soul scene does, without the oxygen of a fancy dress segement on a TV show. If Northern Soul was just a dance thing, we could go to our local gym and join a get fit club, or we could go to the local club and hop about to the radio 1 top twenty. But its more than that. Its important to many people that the exclusivity, and underground aspect of Northern Soul is kept strong. ' Absolutely. And if you claim to have a deep passion for the music, why undermine it's significance by becoming involved in this kind of farce. It's disappointing in the extreme. You have to question what the records actually do mean to these people? I shouldn't be having to say that as someone of 28 to people who have been involved in it for more years than i've been alive. Perhaps wanting to keep something as special as the soul scene to yourself and maintaining its reputation as an important underground culture dedicated to worshipping the best music ever made is insular, and wrong? Think i'd rather be wrong than propping up a class-c lightweight entertainment tool on teatime tv. In a wig no less. Having said all this we should maybe think about the fact that some of those involved may have been unaware of exactly the kind of representation they were going to get when agreeing to the show? Best way to avoid similar situations in the future: STAY CLEAR OF THE MEDIA, THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS.

The soul scene is best kept off the big screen, telly, stage and generally out of the limelight imho. The scene was built on underground cult ethics and thats how it should always stay. Thats what gives it its edge and still attracts certain younger people in to it who appreciate real passion & music as high art, which is what these records are. The soul scene and by default, soul music is not something to use as a springboard to having your own mug being plastered everywhere, these records are far more important than that.

Butch had it for sale just a year go at £2000 or £2500 I think. Not sure where that copy went. I wanted to put it under my coat and hightail it out of the 100 but was worried about getting caught by an ever watchful Mr. Hulatt. Brilliant record! (Look At You) Think Mick played it at Soul rev and it sounded excellent......

  10. Got to say both sides of this are beautiful, especially the sweet side of the Vardan copy.
  11. Note to self: stay clear of cameras, journos, actors and or people doing films/plays/pop promos/art installations about the soul scene.

'the 70s reissue features an alternate version with another group member, Charles 'Diamond' Perry taking the lead' Gareth I take it this is Charles Perry of 'How Can I' fame? Also on Mutt & Jeff amongst other labels? Amazing how some of these artists could change their vocal style so much. Always thought that between the two versions of Elvin Spencer as well.
  16. Happy to take an offer on these if anyone is interested
  17. Yes I spoke to him briefly Pete, seemed very friendly. If I had his sort of capital I would be doing exactly the same thing: stocking up on the best records ever made regardless of price....best of luck to him. Would like to know what the 70's thing on Toeholt was!
  18. I remember him on for quite a while?? And then also on for a while in the backroom too.....
  19. Pretty sure he was playing Because Of My Heart off a Rouser copy at Soul Rev maybe someone else could confirm I wasn't just seeing things....also had Saints, Gwen Owens, Damon Fox, and played a mental 70's thing on blue Toeholt.....had some pretty monster records basically.

Also on a Deon Jackson CD comp of his best stuff but the sound quality is even worse than off the Detroit Dynamite comp.

Sure i've heard Dean Anderosn play it too?? What a sublime incredible record, one of my favorite unissued records... Keith played it next to Ray & The Blue Satins in Cleethorpes this year and they sounded great...
