In short, I reckon I was at a weekender when I was told this......that should explain the vagueness! ! In hindsight, I should have simply said I believe it to be true...... Cheers, Mark R
  8. Oh shit.......how did I miss this thread!! :-( Cheers, Mark R

Never listened to his show, but I believe this to be true......as I was once told by whom, and I reckon it even came from the horses mouth though my memory is vague on that! And no, I'm not going to reveal who if it's not public knowledge. .....besides which it may no longer be the case as this was some time ago, or indeed the guy in question may have only put together a one off show for him. .. . Cheers, Mark R
  10. Fancy cutting Elaine off that photo Andy, you naughty lad!! Cheers, Mark R
  11. Ahh yes, Keb's black glove! LOL Cheers, Mark R
  12. Northern Soul music suits microphone use IMHO. More contemporary/music suited to mixing not necessarily so. Having said that, as an old soul boy, one of my biggest criticisms of house music is not being informed what the record is......because for me it's about great records and getting hold of them, not getting off my tits and dancing regardless of what I'm dancing to! That's an aside. But back to the point, an example I've used before......Guy Hennigan introducing 60's newies.......all about the delivery suiting the in your face music you are pushing and believe in. It drives it home even if only subconsciously. ....you probably don't even realise it! NS is suited to old fashion traditional DJ'ing methods for me...... Cheers, Mark R
  13. A minute fraction of what I had at my disposal Andy, but we gotta walk before we run!! LOL Cheers, Mark R
  14. A few plays from me from last night at the Kingpower Stadium, mostly well known bits to those of a modern persuasion, with one or two fresh bits thrown in for good measure!! Thanks to Fitzy for the invite to play once again, and co-spinners Barry Cooper and Clive Henderson for some great and varied music. By far the best night we have had in the modern room down there, so we hope to carry that forward to the next event. 10:30pm — 11:45pm The SouLutions - Listen (Drizabone Extended Remix) Regrooved feat. Lisa Taylor & DaPaul Philips - Stand Tall (Woman) April Hill - The Search Chanel - My Life Big Brooklyn Red - Taking It Too Far Prominent - Step Into My World Ann Nesby - In The Spirit Superloop - Baby Be Mine Mary J. Blige - Never Too Much Joe - Future Teller Kenny Thomas - Crazy World (request) Solo - Gone Al Green - Keep On Pushing Love (request) Gregory Porter - On My Way To Harlem Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On (Paul Simpson Remix) 1:15am — 1:45am Howard Johnson - Keeping Love New (request) Glenn Jones - I Am Somebody (request) Arnies Love - I'm Out Of Your Life Keni Burke - Let Somebody Love You Flame 'n' King & The Bold Ones - Ho Happy Day Beloyd - Get Into Your Life R. 15. I need to NOT follow this thread......and certainly not comment or I'll be accused of being vindictive again...... Dear oh dear....... .......but well done on the outlook Matt......a nice attitude whatever I may or may not think of the specific choices. No more from me...... Cheers, Mark R

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery Ian. Cheers, Mark R
  17. Another great post.........and the tape bit, and changing musical taste, strikes a chord with me.....absolutely! Cheers, Mark R
  18. Ian, I agree completely with your second paragraph, though I don't think it's daft, I see it as perfectly understandable. I was the opposite, being too young in the 70's but started the adventure early 80's. BUT, these facts should tell you that I have no "obsession" with comparing decades if that was aimed at me, as I was not there in the 70's.....so I'm not qualified to do it!! It seems to me that you were saying the 70's was the best period of your life, not of the scene. If that's what you meant then fine of course because in that context it makes sense, but that's not how it read to me in the context of this thread. Such ambiguity would not arise in a face to face chat, which will shall have over that beer soon! Cheers, Mark R
  19. Ian, a few weeks ago you were telling us that you were in New York or somewhere in the 80's, so how do you know the Wigan era was the best era? I'm not always spoiling for a fight mate......really I'm not, but you can't have it both ways.....it's just not credible!! Cheers, MarkR
  20. What a great, reasonable, balanced post! Nice one! Cheers, Mark R
  21. Myself and Fish Saturday night set at Prestatyn, double decking 3+3, is now available for your listening pleasure!! https://starpointsoulboy.podomatic.com/entry/2014-08-16T07_04_09-07_00 Cheers, Mark R
  22. Only one I can think of that fits the dadah dadah description is World Column "So Is the Sun", but it doesn't fit the rest of the description so I doubt it's that. Was a new release early 1976. Cheers, Mark R
  23. Look forward to it Ian. I know you took me to task over my feelings on the shortcomings of the BBC4 thing, but I do relish these things and only go off on one because I care that it's done properly. That should be seen as a positive and not a negative. Despite what you might think, I do value the history of it all, I really do......I just don't like people to be encouraged to live in the past! ATB, Mark R
  24. I have it on good authority than Norman Jay is currently playing Northern Soul in the sunshine at the Margate weekender! Cheers, Mark R
  25. Hi Ian, I was on the car park they call the M5 yesterday, and though I'd seen this just didn't get chance to reply. See below in blue, answers to your replies to my original points in red........... Cheers, Mark R
