  1. Do l like this.? Not a lot not a lot not a lot Debbie mc gee did you use to go to the mecca. I think not 😉
  2. I agree wholeheartedly with what you say, and I went to all the venues you mention. But the great years you refer to were before the internet was available to most people. The internet has ruined the traditional Northern Soul, as it was. Once, the only way to keep up with the scene was to go to forward thinking allnighters. Now all these low commitment soul night people can learn everything sitting at home. This means allnighter attendances have suffered and soul nights are booming! Since roundabout year 2000 the Northern scene has been taken over by people who learned about it from their PC's. Now it looks like a complete retro/ nostalgic pantomime!

  14. Yet again the sleeve notes claim that Wigan was voted best disco in the world by Billboard magazine (The year named as 1978 in lots of other places). It makes me sad that it keeps getting repeated time and again if it's patently not true. All copies of Billboard are available online. Somebody just point us to the edition and the page and I will shut up for ever. No comment necessary unless you know it to be true. I don't want to be accused of taking this thread off-topic. But this is what Richard Searling said on the subject a while ago. ST : Did Wigan Casino deserve its title of "Billboard's Best Disco in the World" in 1978? RS : I m sure it did. However I think it's extremely odd that we did not celebrate or publicise such an important international accolade at the time. Neither, to the best of my knowledge, has any official paperwork or trophy ever been produced. As I was a resident DJ at the venue at the time, working for RCA and playing Billboard Hot Disco releases at the like of Angels in Burnley, I m sure I would not have missed it. In fact I would have been shouting from the rooftops about it.........go figure!
  15. Could spend the rest of my life watching stuff like this , big up to everyone involved 👏👌👍🎶🎶🎶

  17. Nice article. Looking forward to the event Les and Ann.
  18. I only know a couple of these productions. I have the Executive Suite/Christine US import single which I got around 1974. Also, The Ethics track, I believe that sounds like the birth of the Philly/Gamble & Huff 70's sound even though if my memory serves me 1969 and a Bobby Martin arrangement?
  19. As far as I can remember in the 8ts it was every 3 weeks all year and every 5 weeks in the summer cos Ady was playing cricket (not always in the middle of Oxford St ! Or did I imagine that !!)
