  3. Ah well theres always the cracker.....kev h is on......sure they'll get it
  4. Never knew Chantel but we acknowledged each other once or twice Stand out, effortless dancer.....not theatrical like some just the business. Condolences to her family
  5. I'm not a regular to Soul Source, but occasionally drop in to see what's happening on the scene, so I was shocked and saddened to read that Chantel Bateman had passed away. I never knew Chantel - or even spoke to her (I only recognised who she was from the photo); so you're probably wondering why I'm writing this message. Well, I had the great pleasure on three or four occasions, when I attended the NS night at the Kempton Working Men's Club (going back a good 14 to 15 years now), to see Chantel dance. And did she know how to dance. I've watched a lot of people over the years strutting their stuff and I can quite honestly say that I've seen very few who had the rhythm, style, elegance, and pure presence on the dance floor as Chantel. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend Chantel's Memorial Soul Nite, though I'd love to. I hope you all have a great night and raise lots for the Sue Ryder Trust. My belated sympathies and condolences to you Kev, your family and friends.
  6. Here is an article from Charlie & Pam Horner of Classic Urban Harmony... Remember seeing him perform in LA 2004 on the very first Soul Trip USA.. I hope this proves to be of interest, Regards David Jewel Akens dies. Pop soloist of "The Birds and the Bees" fame also sang with the Four Dots and other groups. Jewel Akens died Friday March 1, 2013, of complications from back surgery at Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, CA. He was 72. Mention the name Jewel Akens and most people think of the 1965 Top 10 pop recording of “The Birds & The Bees”. Yet, vocal harmony fans remember Jewel Akens for his work as first tenor for West Coast R&B vocal groups like the Four Dots (Freedom label), Astro-Jets (Imperial label), Rainbows (Gramo label), Terry & Tyrants (Kent label), Composers (Era label), Turn-Arounds (Era label) and Johnny Staton’s Feathers (Classic Artists label). Jewel also sang on John Ashley’s great group ballad, “Seriously In Love” (Silver label). If you'd like to learn more and to listen to some of Jewel Akens' best vocal group records and see a video of him singing "The Birds And The Bees" click the link on the What's New Page of www.classicurbanharmony.net

  11. I first purchased "Caught Up" in 1974 ( R&B Album of the year) - and I have been playing it ever since- I agree it is the best concept Album of all time- even better than Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs Concepts - which are also in my all time fave play list (Yes us soulies do like other genres) Millie's cover of Elvis's Loving Arms from " Still Caught Up" is in my opinion the best version of this great song, she sings it with pure passion
  12. Thank you for your comments and suggestions Anais nin. As I mentioned in my original post above I will be taking considerable care to do this right this time around and to ensure Zoe is rewarded for her efforts.
