"keep The Faith"
Yeah, that's the one, cheers Matt. Jesse owens was first black man to win it/race it then??? I know he did something special??

Funk 45 Wants
I've a load of Funk 45s (probably a shoe box full) some rare stuff, I think. Had them years. Anyone got any Northern to trade me for it???

"keep The Faith"
Don't know much about the 'Keep The Faith' slogan but it is used in all manner of contexts and is a fairly well known 'phrase' not exclusive to the soul scene. Fits well with what you said though. The fist is obviously the 'right on' fist that black brothers in the sixties (late sixties?) used to show each other (remember the black runner, Jesse Owens i think was his name doing it at the Olympics in Germany?) something to do with 'black power' aint it?

Queens City Show Band - True Patron Of The Arts
Has anyone heard the vocal by The Razor's Edge....better as an instrumental!
-
Skip Cunningham - Have We Met Before
sent you a message.

Records You Wish Were Instrumentals
Changing the idea slightly, simply beacause these 2 vocals did have instrumental versions anyway.... Joey Dee & The New Starlighters - How Can I Forget You - (Caniel), much better as instrumental.... and this.... Queen City Show Band - True Patron Of The Arts - (Pow).......and the vocal...The Razor's Edge also on Pow....dire, weak, white vocals, great lyrics though..."She's a go-go girl who's in with the in-crowd, a true patron of the arts!"

George Smith (e)
Didn't he do 'Don't Find Me Guilty' on Bojo....rarest release of this one? Also on Conclave which I have, good beat ballad flip too...'Human' (Ad-Libs, Tommy Hunt...even Prince Buster!)

New Cover Up, Known?
Anyone ever played (or heard) the Cordells 'Love Is Where It Is' out at a soul night? It's a great atmospheric moody Northern/Garage group dancer. It's the flip to their (fairly) well known 'You Do A Thing To My Mind'. Tim Brown lists 'Love Is Where It Is' as the 'play' side.

White Horses- Rupert The Bear Jacky Lee
I heard that too, think more on the Mod / 60's beat side of the scene.

New Cover Up, Known?
This is one to look out for too, 2 great garage / northern sides. Other side is 'No Wonder' and is the more soulful. 'Crying All Alone' stomps along while 'No Wonder' is a horn driven shuffler/mid-tempo with a more soulful vocal.

New Cover Up, Known?
Sorry Thorsten, I can't get my head around trying to work out how to do soundfiles. Look out for it if you can, the flip is great too! I love the garage soul sound as well, missed a great one by '3's A Crowd' on Golden Voice the other day, went for $52....mean and moody mid-tempo called 'Nowhere'. Gonna try and get a copy of that if I can. Love the one you posted up!

Steelers - Just Beginning To Love You

Vibrations
Ahh, not on Okeh then? Maybe it's a foreign release then? (as opposed to USA)
-
New Cover Up, Known?
I like it! Just found a garage type soul record myself...complete unknown by 'The Avengers' called 'No Wonder' on Mr.Genius. By the way, imo, I can't see the point of c/ups nowadays.
-
Vibrations
Definitely not. I've got the album they're off (Vibrating Vibrations) and they are corkers aint they! I'm a big album collector and always try to find out what tracks are album only.

Fashion Victims
Surely.. 'Oxford Bags', 'Spencers', 'Bowling Shirts' et al were the fashion when Northern Soul was at its height? Mid 70's period. Basically, everyone was wearing these clothes, not just soulies. It's just a myth that these are Northern Soul (or 'Soulie') clothes/gear. If you go by the actual records, mainly 60's, early 70's and the fashions the artists wore and the original fans.....then (for me anyway) it has to be 'Ben Sherman', 'Levis'....etc. Always amuses me when folk not into the scene still think that we wear vests (with patches), Oxfords...and the rest. I suppose they're still regarded as Northern Soul clothes by the masses...
