Collecting Paper Sleeves
That is interesting, it's a good explanation since the dog label is more common than the other label on actual 45s. I like the labels that have one release and put in a lot of money into sleeves (and then go out of business?). Like the mellow moods on "we make rock and roll music" has a custom sleeves. I think my alston-sonics on Omega has an Omega sleeve. I have an awesome upnilons on lummtone where the sleeve is a regular sleeve but they made a custom ink stamp design.

Monster Ballads Hiding On B-Sides Of Northern Classics
yeah, the northern side on that is good but the ballad is much better. also if you get the first press on gate it's on vinyl.

Price Check: Gene Chandler - In My Body's House
Baby Huey is definitely better as a funk record. The instrumental hits much harder and Huey's vocals are rougher. Also it's been sampled a lot.

Moments On Hog
they're probably just sharing a copy btw i thought there was a whistling smiley but i can't find it.

Sass - I Only Wanted To Love You - 20Th Century . Value?
The INS version is the same recording but it's like a minute longer, definitely worth getting if you can. That song is a grower, I love it, Teddy Pendergrass vibes but better than a Teddy song.

the mayfield version is a later remake though, he obviously was going for a different sound.

Johnny Washington On Sandwash
In addition to having no group, I thought the ballad side was poorly written and sort of went nowhere. I have to listen to the northern side more (and I'll listen to the ballad side again). Thanks.

Monster Ballads Hiding On B-Sides Of Northern Classics
this is especially true given that the "sundown" side is an attempt to do a similar song as "under the street lamp" hoping it would hit again.

Collecting Paper Sleeves
I have a dearborn sleeve, I bought some crappy pop 45 to get the sleeve. Someone recently told me that the hargraves record never came with a company sleeve though.

Common Records Which Do A Good Job Of Avoiding You
wait, are you saying that the Carbon Copies 45 is a "common record"?

Collecting Paper Sleeves
that's cool, what era of motown? if someone did a gallery of mailers that would be pretty cool to see. I wonder if anyone has a big collection of them. They would be very difficult to collect since it's essentially packaging that is thrown out.

Common Records Which Do A Good Job Of Avoiding You
I have some HB Barnum records, already including one that's worse (something like "do the ska").

Common Records Which Do A Good Job Of Avoiding You
Just listened. Although I admit there's the familiarity factor, the Ben E King sounds significantly better to me. Ben E King has a much better voice and delivery. The backing vocals on the Barnum cut was much more poppy, sounded possibly like White girls. The Ben E King version had a stronger female backing with more soulful voices.

Price Check: Gene Chandler - In My Body's House
yeah, like Kris says below, I didn't know of any connection to the northern scene at all. I thought all the people buying it were funk collectors. The Baby Huey LP is not common. I don't collect LPs but I did for a while and it was really weird that the only time I ever found the LP was at someone's house, they had a french press on a buddah label with no gatefold. They had no other foreign records. I have no idea how that ended up at some random southside house in the US. If it did show up I would have seen it on record store "rare" LP walls but never did.

Collecting Paper Sleeves
Vaguely related (if people don't think so it could be moved to a new topic) -- does anyone collect original label mailers? I have a TK 45 mailer and a Magic Touch one. I'm wondering if anyone has like an extensive collection of these? it would be awesome to see.

Price Check: Gene Chandler - In My Body's House
I think $50 is closer to the value today. Do people buy this just as a substitute for baby huey?

Linda Griner Question

Linda Griner Question
I have been told two different things about Linda Griner on motown, coming from many different people. There is a pressing of the 45 that says "goodbye cruel world" instead of "goodbye cruel love". I've been told by some people that it was just on the label and that it was an identical recording and told by other people that it's a rare alternate recording where she actually says "goodbye cruel world". Both sets of people were usually totally sure and some people claimed to have heard the alternate recording. Right now on ebay a Belgian seller has a WLP of the "world" title with audio. I listened to the audio and it was identical to the "cruel love" track. So does this settle my question or are there actually some pressings that play a totally different version of the track? Thanks in advance.
