  1. Age record is cheap, maybe $10-$15? It's really good R&B but it's not rare because it was a local hit.
  2. So when people say it out loud do they say "oh-voh" or do they say "oh-vee-oh'?

  4. I love how the worst thing you can say to someone on soul source is "your box is full of pressings". It's somehow ten times worse than insulting someone's mother. I can't believe I just read a thread that was like "you have pressings!" "NO YOU have pressings!" Also, in Chicago, there is a new Cirque du Soleil show called "ovo" with billboards and TV ads. I laugh and think of soul source every time I see it.
  5. the chandlers on col soul does have two presses, one with the label indented around the rim and the other not. It's the same as the one on bleu rose. For some reason manship guide says one of the blue rose presses is expensive and the other isn't, but doesn't make the same distinction for the col soul record.
  6. I'm pretty sure william bell was a member of the del-rios
  7. I really like both sides of this record a lot, this doesn't come up for sale very often but isn't a "known" expensive record. Jeff Smith was previously in the Chandlers.
  8. this record was a big hit. that is a reissue label (despite someone writing a '65 date on the label). it looks like your sleeve also says so.
  9. This is not true. I read this here and announced it once on my radio show and was embarassed later. Anyways, the lead singer of Kings Go Forth is Black (and his name is "Black Wolf") and was part of some soul groups that didn't record in Milwaukee in the 70s.
  10. OK thanks for the explanation. I think I'm out of my expertise in this subject material so I don't have a further opinion that what I said already. unrelated, the flip of that Black Aces of Soul is really nice sweet soul (I think it's the a-side actually).
  11. I would love to hear the unreleased stylistics 45. Marty Bryant supposedly did a whole unreleased LP on the stylistics. He also did the Precisions on Hen-mar and the first Sister Sledge 45 on Money Back.
  12. Robb, are you sure that royal spades is an acetate? It looks identical to the pressed record I have (labels are the same) and I can even see deadwax markings. I will try to scan some acetates later for this thread
  13. there is an unsold one on ebay, VG+ for $700, probably the one he was referring to
  14. Hi Jocko. I made the initial comparison between Ocean and "Lo" because they seem pretty similar to me. They both have deep, soulful voices, both made pop songs (in a very similar style actually) that crossed over to the pop market. It seems you are offended maybe because you think one is more talented than the other (not sure which one)? Or if not, what are the main differences between the two artists that you see? You're writing like it's totally obvious that they are different but it's not obvious to me at least. I'm not saying the same thing as Ian though because I don't think either act is appropriate for a "soul" event as they both are pop. Thanks a lot.
  15. also, here is the copyright entry for "flirting with other girls", another track Lucille White wrote: FLIRTING WITH OTHER GIRLS; w & m Luke Gross S Lucille White. 2 1. © Jobete Music Co. Inc.; lMay65; EP202256. I don't know a motown song with that title, maybe it didn't even get recorded.
  16. or the BMI record could be screwed up. Or it was recorded (maybe not released) on another artist Barnes produced and he took credit. what's weird about the BMI entry is that it says that the writer Lucille White is the same L White that wrote the final brighter side of darkness record "he made you mine"
  17. Those first two names are too generic to connect to anything for me. You're not thinking of Larry Reynolds (aka LJ Reynolds), are you? Lou Roberts was a recording artist. I can't think of a Larry Roberts. Bay Sound was a Baltimore label. It's probably not the same person, I'm guessing someone made an assumption due to having two "little nickys" but it's probably wrong.
  18. Robb, you are only able to edit your posts when you have enough post and are upgraded as a member from "mint minus" to "mint". not sure of the rationale, but that's why you weren't able to edit your post.
  19. I just re-read this thread. Everyone was making good points and there was reasonable discussion until it blew up. Why take what someone says on a messageboard personally?
  20. someone might want this buy-it-now, this seller is a fairly conservative grader and this is a reasonable price https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110715478515&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_673
  21. I have the four arts record (not the nicky soul record, which is much more expensive...). The four arts record is produced and written by L Roberts and arranged by richard tee
  22. I wasn't making fun of billy ocean, I was just making the point that Cee Lo and Billy Ocean are a much closer comparison that Cee Lo and "funky soul", Cee Lo and "northern soul", Cee Lo and "Modern Soul", etc. Both Cee Lo and Billy Ocean have deep soulful voices and achieved pop success making catchy pop songs. Would all the people who want to hear Cee Lo at their event also want to hear Billy Ocean? I did think it was funny that Cee Lo was wearing a Misfits shirt for like 2 episodes of the US tv show "the voice" (don't know if you get that over there). I don't think that adds to his "soul singer" credentials though.
  23. Cee Lo does have a nice voice. So does Billy Ocean.
  24. how has no one mentioned "strange feeling" and "sitting in the park" yet?
  25. jan bradley wrote that song
