Joan, with respect, when you say no northern DJ's do you mean no 'familiar' northern DJ's? Askin as theres many 'northern/motown/club soul/ whatever DJ's out there would love to have this event on their cv, thousands of em in fact, Personally i will (hopefully as not booked yet) be at cleethorpes, love it, and loved it for many years, (think the first Maxine brown was the first time, with Mr coulson, know ya readin this pete ) about 96? and not missed since, highlight of the year for me, cheers Ady And so many stories But still re non NS DJ's how do you know? As said 'with respect' as you may know every name on the line up, Pete

Great point, NS or not i'm sure the 'market' its not aimed at will be targeted heavily in the promoting of this event, Pete

If collecting is treated as a hobby (as it should be) and not an investment, then there should be no worries, Would a golfer or an angler expect his money back for his expensive equipment if he packed it in? Or does a football fan expect a return on his season ticket when the seasons finished? I think not, The way i look at it if i pay say £100 for a record its because at that time i have £100 to spend and thats what i want to spend it on, if when ive had my £100 worth of 'fun' out of it anything i get for it moving it on could be classed as profit, Stops me worrying anyway- Your Favourite Dee-jays

Tony, have to say 'not' in my (limited) experience, Pete- Soul Night Disgrace
Pretty much correct, but i wasn't aware of a connection between vests and baggies and boots and pressings, does this mean events where a lot of the punters wear this gear play mostly boots and reissues? Pete- Soul Night Disgrace
Touched on this earlier in the thread - discoveries drying up, just a minor detail Trev, if everybody decides to sell up and buy boots who will buy your OV?- Soul Night Disgrace
Fine Mike, bit tricky for me that though, as i don't carry any- Soul Night Disgrace
Hello Mike, think the safest option is pull up 20+ originals, can't or shouldn't be difficult, then everybody's happy- Soul Night Disgrace

Agree Ian, a town centre pub where i live is packed every weekend playing motown/northern/club soul, only ever called in a couple of times and thought it was great and a pleasant change from the usual town center dross, But paying £5+ to get in a venue that its promoters and its regulars want to be considered as a 'serious' soul event, where DJs are trying to climb the ladder of credibility by playing obvious 'boots' of current bigger ticket tunes doesn't quite sit as comfortably with me, But as said before, not the be all and end all, just don't go,- Price Please
Jack, are you saying a 45 will triple in price or more from VG+ to a M- ? don't know the value of this 45 so not disputing your estimate, just seems a big jmp from VG+ to M- Pete- Soul Night Disgrace
If a DJ is faced with the dilemma, shall i play this £10 floor clearer or this pressing of a floor filler, WTF are they doing up there in the first place? whatever the type of event if they can't pull up 20 odd floor friendly legit tunes, then why bother in the first place?- Soul Night Disgrace
Apologies if i came accross as meaning ALL accross the board events adopt this boot policy, far from it- Soul Night Disgrace
Don't know the event in question, but a couple of points, Though these events predominantly play the tried and tested, they still play stuff that was a couple of years earlier being broke at the more upfront/nighter scene, usually when its been booted/carved, IMO these 'tunes' help keep even the most oldies orientated events a little fresh and help stop even the keenest oldies 'soulie' getting bored, even if they don't really know it, If then EVERYBODY went down this road and decided the best option is to open events whereby 'mates' with records will play top 500/current top 20, and adopted the attitude 'its what comes through the speakers that counts' how long before,A theres no current top 20? and B everybody is bored shitless? Also at even accross the board soul nights its always nice to hear something new (although this isn't a must for me but nice if i do) is it not a case of a tune having to reach a certain popularity to warrant being booted? Which then means a DJ playing mainly 'boots' you can rest assured you aint gonna hear anything remotely fresh, just a DJ waiting for some other mug to 'break' the next 'biggie' get the boot and play it to a probably bigger audience and genuinly think its clever, Unfortunately, i doubt theres a solution, - Bootleg Detective
