  2. Had a conversation about whis a while back and after a few suggestions (many of which already mentioned on this thread) a friend (of the young female variety) came up with Remember me- Diana Ross, left me speechless and after all these years it now takes on a different slant whenever i hear it! inspired choice me thinks! Pete
  3. fantastic!!!!!! pm'd ya Pete
  4. Sean sold me a record with a hard to find 'crack' but all credit to the man as he pointed it out beforehand and priced it accordingly! so alls good! a good egg! Pete Eccles
  5. If everyone focused on what was best for them and stop questioning people for having a different opinion or taste surely threads like this one would just be laughed at or would they, i dont know. my point exactly!!! well said and carry on enjoyin it all! Pete
  6. point taken mark, will be off then to do what i do! Pete Eccles
  7. scarboro my comment may have been made with tongue slightly in cheek and i havnt made any opinions on wether the 'bubble' has or will or will not burst, im just giving my opinion on what IMHO is not really helping! and that is judging other 'soulies' on their tastes /histories/knowledge and yes their appearances per week/month/year on the scene then placin them in a handbag/plastic section at the same time as questioning the future of the 'scene, so you see scarbora i really dont know what you mean, regards again, Pete
  8. plastic soulies and real soulies? may i ask what qualifications are required for promotion from plastic to real? and who decides? very interestig this! regards, Pete
  9. Very well said! couldnt agree more, from a personal point of view i must be one of the lucky ones! as after 30+ yrs of loving our scene (dont get me wrong there was a gap of a dozen or so years for a couple of failed marriages and a few kids) but as a twice weekly attendee since '94 i can honestly say i enjoy (some more than others) wherever i go! i never try to educate (hate that word) anybody of a lesser experience and try to show nothin but respect to those of a greater experience! so long as the respect is returned! i only ask that whatever the policy of the venue its kept real and in line with what the whole movement has been about since day 1! as i said before i dont particularly want to travel and pay my hard earned to listen to a. n. other and his mp3/cd player, apart from that my only gripe is folk tellin folk they shouldnt be listenin to this they should be listenin to that! i dont really care what anybody else likes or is doing! whatever a persons taste its a choice and they deserve respect, and as you say to keep on at them telling them their tastes are inferior and they need educating (that word again grrrrrr) will only widen the divide! theres no medals for service and to expect extra respect or a higher position in the northern soul community because of a lengthy presence is dare i say very uneducated? enjoy what you enjoy and allow the rest of us to do the same. Kindest rgards always, Pete
  10. And those on scene 1 know which scene they wanna be part of! End of! Regards, Pete
  11. would that be tyrone outta corrie? it filled the floor? enough said those that filled the floor that have paid for their evenings entertainment know f**k all! you know best! oh well regards again
  12. now why does that not surprise me? lol KTF Regards
  13. your a very eloquent (if thats how you spell it) articulate and WITTY man ken! i really envy your inventive and informative intelligent input! wish i was as humourous! cheap and shots are the words that spring to mind! but whatever floats ya boat Pete
  14. correct bearsy! 1 mans poisen etc and if we are gonna carry on with a vibrant thriving scene we need to pull together and stop the im more holier than thou approach! like i said keep it real and the progression will take care of itself! keep it unreal and allow and support mr bloggs with his suitcase of mp3s in the local community centre prevail on a saturday night (dont get me wrong not averse to a pub doin watever they do but dont allow it to be promoted as a serious venture within the scene) and we are in trouble! and that i'm afraid is the way its heading! Pete
  15. well said bearsy! but the point i'm tryin to make is we should be making sure the pin to burst the bubble doesnt belong to US! Regards, Pete
  16. ok been reading this thread with interest! firstly the diversity of the track selections by Brian and Lynsey speaks volumes! we now have previous attendees of all the major past venues under the same umbrella plus some! back in the day which ever venue we attended (myself wigan and blackpool) we were all after the same thing i think, the latest big sound!we were much younger and all a similar age group at the time! now we have returnees from all those eras and venues under the same roof! plus the soulies who have discovered this wonderful music post stafford ie a little more recently and very welcome they are! so my theory for what its worth is stop bangin on about which genre/taste/period is best and reduce the venues! In the past there was always THE place to be at that particular time and the local workin mans club was for ya dad! now if we arent careful northern soul will become the new bingo! only a few yrs ago i would be excited on a monday or tuesday in anticipation of knowing where (within a reasonable distance) most of the soul community would be the coming weekend, nowadays its to much of a multiple choice (where i am anyway nw england) it seems anywhere with a room for hire is fair game, add to that different histories, preferences, and passion and desire(not everybody has to live and breathe it to like what they like) and the scene as a social event just becomes more and more diluted! and bangin on about 'why wont they move on'? or 'dont like all that new shit i dont know it' wont help at all but its not as dangerous as 'todays venues dont play my tastes so i shall open my own' and expect to be bombarded with likeminded folk queuein up to sample wats on offer! can we not spend our later years accepting that all soul is good but some better than other? attend the venue of your choice try to keep it real! and enjoy! chill and respect others tastes/memories/goals etc, and if you find out your auntie has a spare bedroom dont try and promote a soul night in it! only my perception and opinion, pete60

Pete can you please explain somethin that may be blatantly obvious to anybody other than me? just been on ebay and selected highest price first cat (uk soul records) now the thing is anything over £100 with bids is the same or very similar bidder! irrespective of the type of item for sale! im surely not quite grasping something as im somewhat confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!! help required Pete

Couldnt have put it better winnie!!! i like all genres of soul and dont really care what anyone else thinks i should like, Not to long ago i was 'preached' to at length about people being ignorant and refusing to move on from the 'same old same old' only to interrupted by the lady needing to run to the dancefloor to dance to the timeless classic 'the love i lost', On her return i asked does that not fall into the category of 'same old same old'? Reply :- but thats a good un!!!!!!! The moral - being a door to door salesman of your 'tastes' wont have people with different tastes rushing to the doctor to have their 'inferior' tastes surgically removed!! we are all soulies or whatever term we see fit to use, if we attend a venue twice a year and never buy a record or if we have a collection to die for and attend twice a week it doesnt matter! if somebody that doesnt know the difference between the tops and the temps wishes to tell all they are a soulie (or again whatever term we see fit to use) who cares? i don't! Pete
