  2. Pete can you please explain somethin that may be blatantly obvious to anybody other than me? just been on ebay and selected highest price first cat (uk soul records) now the thing is anything over £100 with bids is the same or very similar bidder! irrespective of the type of item for sale! im surely not quite grasping something as im somewhat confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!! help required Pete
  3. ive seen this name (the bidder) and similar soooo many times! am i missing something? as i dont pretend to be an expert and had to bid against this person or persons a few times! Pete

  6. Couldnt have put it better winnie!!! i like all genres of soul and dont really care what anyone else thinks i should like, Not to long ago i was 'preached' to at length about people being ignorant and refusing to move on from the 'same old same old' only to interrupted by the lady needing to run to the dancefloor to dance to the timeless classic 'the love i lost', On her return i asked does that not fall into the category of 'same old same old'? Reply :- but thats a good un!!!!!!! The moral - being a door to door salesman of your 'tastes' wont have people with different tastes rushing to the doctor to have their 'inferior' tastes surgically removed!! we are all soulies or whatever term we see fit to use, if we attend a venue twice a year and never buy a record or if we have a collection to die for and attend twice a week it doesnt matter! if somebody that doesnt know the difference between the tops and the temps wishes to tell all they are a soulie (or again whatever term we see fit to use) who cares? i don't! Pete

  9. Hi Winnie trust you are well, just my take re the four vandals, irrespective of wether i rate the track i think it went the way of lots of records not just because of its origins but because of its sudden availability! What i am saying is DJs whatever their billing status enjoy any exclusivity, look at the unnissued motown stuff a few years ago along with tracks such as carbon copy and voodoo working and more recently catch that teardrop and im waitin, massive reaction records, buzz records if you like! The common denominater? They all fell from premium playlists to an extent when booted or in the case of previously unnissued material pressed in numbers, thus meaning more plays by a considerable amount hence any mileage left in the tracks was driven almost overnight. The second it became known that the four vandals was available to anybody rather cheaply and not on a boot it became a lot less of a travel to listen to tune, and played absolutely everywhere in these parts anyway, which i think would kill it even quicker than the usuall 'boot' theory. a bit off thread i suppose but just an idea, and an interesting subject :- tracks that died a death once 'booted' or pressed in numbers, just thought of another as i type, mayfield singers - dont start none, the list goes on, Pete
  10. hi winnie PM'd you erm i think

  13. can i just say that ruby andrews has never charted (on these shores at least) and i would also like to add that as a lover of this scene and music through four decades and an attendee of most major venues in that timespan i for one consider ruby andrews (just lovin you) to be a surefire timeless classic! as an occasional dj with IMHO a reasonable playbox for all soul nights (and niters) if i was invited to play a set ANYWHERE and was asked by a paying customer to play 'ruby' i would'nt think twice! we are all entitled to our tastes and opinions and as a rare poster on this site i hope you dont mind me giving you mine. regards pete
