Alright Tubbs? I've got to say that anybody that I speak to from the west coast that's been up to the Belmont has always enjoyed it, myself included so I can't understand a drastic reply like "shite". What kind of sounds would this fella have played? Is he promoting the scene as much as you and Riddell? Everybody is a critic good or bad but negative criticism should be followed by advice to give you an idea of where if anything you went wrong. Picture the scene, Mature student standing alone at the train station, people watching as you wait for that 4.30 train home that is always late. A humble soulful voice echoing in the back of your mind as you wish the train would hurry up and take you away from this platform of despair. Men, women, kids, the odd tramp and general nobody's. Mr Don Thomas building up his vocals helping you to will the train along, knowing that these nobodies will never escape their hum-drum lives. Recieved a few bad copies myself and it severely pisses you off when it is advertised as excellent condition. It takes up a bit of time but make a record of your buys and condition so that you know who or who not to deal with. There are a lot of sales from U.S. that you wouldn't buy from a junk shop and seems even a waste of money paying p&p on it. H

You will find that Archie Bell covered it on Atlantic as a type of "dance" showdown with the words changed from Rance Allen version. Both good tracks but Rance Allen wins due to the harmony of vocals. Great to see it getting the plays nowadays. H.

Quiet please!!! Gene, I watched that recently on satellite especially for Brotherhood of Man's- "Reach out your hand". That's a good groove on that tune, any body know who who wrote it????? Also on the reruns (ooer!) was Adrienne Posta's acting in "Till death do us part". Oh how I laughed, H. ...........I'll get me remote control!!!!!!!!

Dayo, This was booted in the eighties and as davidwapples states, it is on the slowfizz label. I think all of the boots stated that it was a promo copy. It was played out at scooter rallies round about the time of Marsha Gees "Peanut Duck". It does still turn a few heads when played as most peoples reactions are "what the hells goin on here" Should be plenty of copies lying about, especially from scooterists from the 80's Haydn

Mischief, Yeah seen that film ages ago and told a few mates about it myself. Quite strange with the fat bloke jumping about painted with very little in the way of clothes on but good to see Sir Edwin giving it a debut. Nice to see a dig at producers and music promoters giving it large on mixing traditional Northern with modern dance music. Always remember the guy going in to the hotel and faintly hearing a choon in the background, walking through the doors and pronouncing to the lady dj" Sam Dees Lonely for you baby" for him to be dissed for mixing her fathers(Edwin Starr) choon. When he went back to the do that was in full swing, all these soulies surrounding him before he picked up the groove and found his feet again.You could feel it surge through him, excellent. Get the same buzz when waiting in the queue of shops and a choon comes on wondering who is playing that????? Haydn

According to the sleeve notes..... "The producers of this CD have paid the "composers"and "publishers for the use(?) of their music." A company called Peoplesound (part of {get this} Buonglomo Vitaminic Group) Peoplesound are a London based company that does mp3s and free downloads, funnily enough > their search toolbar coudn't find any of the tracks on the CD. They seem to be promoters for up and coming bands signing to labels. Nothing on their site about the rare soul scene. The bonus tracks on the CD are made up names with the writer of the song being the artist that sang it , sorry played it, as they are all instrumentals, lame instrumentals. Yes okay it was a "free" CD but the music is worth so much more, this has just cheapened it and nobody in their right mind can find this an apt copy of soul music. It makes it worse to find out that a certain, and i used to think respected DJ, had even anything to do with this, obviously the lure of a bit of gold in a mine means more than the sounds. Help ma Boab!! H.

What is this all about, I thought the idea of releasing something like this would be encouraging to the folk outside the scene,pah is it hell!!!
