  1. I think Ian was refering to the Four Tops "don't bring back the memories"....written by Raynoma Singleton (Gordy)....which of course is a fantastic B side
  2. The clue is on the lable...it was given away free with the four albums that each track was lifted from.....came in a pic sleeve with a pic of each of the four albums Ian
  3. I believe this one by Lou Rawls is a UK only 45 What"s the matter with the world- Lou Rawls-UKPIR 13560 refosoul

John Manship has a copy for £10 and also Bobby Lewis Tossin' and turnin' on same lable for £4
  5. What's the matter with the world - lou rawls - pir Looks like this might have been a UK only 45 too. From the same album as TWTCOE
  6. Maybe Goldmine could shed some light on the subject, after all they have issued a fair few tracks from Ric Tic / Golden World catalogue
  7. 11335 refosoul If that guy walks out of my life - the three degrees -loma (unreleased)

It was a "cash-in" LP from the 70's using his unreleased 60's Argo recordings. Some really nice tracks on it. Ian

I'm Going Out - nanette (nanette workman) - canusa 13117 refosoul
  10. Pete, just listened to "MBCLTW" but I think he sounds even more like him on the track on "prog archives" "MBCLTW" sounds a bit speeded up but either way I think you are right. It seems likely FATC were just session singers who ultimately were looking for a break
  11. Pete, I checked out an mp3 of Bobby Callender on "prog archives" and I have to say I agree with you.......also to confuse things further could he also be Bob Brady?
  12. Goodbye love, hello sadness - frankie and the classicals - calla 13069 refosoul I would say Frankie is a man. This is one of the A sides to WSID and it doesn't sound female to me. Sounds like a bloke doing a Smokey Robinson impersonation. The female voice of WSID is only in the background here and therefore secondary, so not likely to be the one called "Frankie" Ian
  13. Who says "Frankie" is female? on "Goodbye love" (the A side!) the lead sounds like a "Smokey" type falsetto male vocal with the WSID vocalist doing backgrounds. There is a good chance like on loads of other "group" records from prolific New York producers that they were all just session singers. Ian
  14. Jason, that is quite funny You too have a good Christmas. I look forward to your next do at the Berkley Ian
  15. Gotta make you love me - lori burton - mercury 12854 refosoul This is the track mentioned by Steve Plumb Imagine how big this might have been if it was a 45.
  16. 12401 refosoul All I want for Christmas - mamie galore and dee irwin = imperial
  17. That is mental, but I enjoyed it so much I played it twice
  18. You are a braver man than me posting this...I have it on a French EP too...no nice pic sleeve tho. I bought mine for 20p, 34 years ago in a second hand shop in Sunderland......probably all its worth today!!!

  20. Am I missing something? John Manship has a M- copy of "Two can play the same game" - Academy for sale at £400 Pat Brady has a M- copy in his auction and the current bid is £976 Ian

Simon, if your Jimmy Norman 45 is deteriorating maybe its your pick up or stylus that is the problem. Years ago I had a turntable that whenever I played a styrene disc it damaged it as the wieght of the pick up was too heavy. I have loads of styrene 45s which I have owned for over 30 years and they play fine. I think it is really down to the equiptment they are played on. Over the years, if I have bought a new player, I have always tried it out with a rubbish b-side before i risked one of my favourite disks......just a thought. Ian
  22. "Ten to one" definately

Which one came first? I have to say that as a musician, I find it impossible to believe the Temptones hadn't previously heard the Ringleaders or vice versa. Musically the intros are incredibly similar, right down to the the same first 3 notes at the very begining. The chorus line "girl I love you" uses the same 2 notes as the vocal refrain "Do do do do do do do do" and both have the same harmonies in the same place. I would guess the Ringleaders came first as the whole song sounds like a continuation of what is set up on the intro, where the Temptones sound like they have nicked a bit of "BWHHTOL" and created a new song around it. It can't be a coincidence. However I love both records Ian
