  1. Does anyone else have a pressing fault? I got 2, one from Picadilly and one from Juno. Both jump a few seconds from the end. I don't want to contact suppliers if the problem might be my turntable. It's odd that both have the same skip in the sane place.
  2. Written by Al Reed. His daughter asked for a cut from Discogs of every record/cd sold that her father was involved in. She threatened legal action if they did not. Even though she stood little chance of winning Discogs decided it was easier just to ban sales.
  3. In the 70s I used to get all the mailing lists going. If I saw a record by an artist that had a record currently or in the past being played on the northern scene that I didn't know I'd often take a chance. This way I got Tony Middleton - Return to Spanish Harlem, Tobi Lark - Sweep ..., Sammy Cambell - I never Thought, plus many others. Also I would tour all the junk shops in Bristol and hoover up everything soul related even if I hadn't heard it. Possibly the best find was the live version of Garnet Mimms - As Long As I Have You. I would also buy blind anything recommended by Dave Godin.

  6. This comes up fairly often over the last few years. Apparently his daughter threatened legal action against Discogs unless they gave her a cut of all sales of Al's recordings including all compositions. Even though she has a weak claim Discogs don't want to risk it.
  7. Be nice if it was, alas no. Beyond my wallet.
  8. No help, I know, but souns like it's from a "blaxplotation" movie.
  9. From In The Basement 47.
  10. Possibly any demos would have been issues with a small sticker.
  11. I got a lot of Mojos at time of release and filled in the rest over the following years. Never seen a demo, but that's not to say they don't exist.
  12. Never seen one, sounds like a felt tip pen.
  13. Eve has just told me the capacity was 300, I thought it was packed.
  14. Unknown to me, played by a young DJ whose name I should know as I met him last year. Mainly 70s funky/disco. Although I do him a disservice as he could give a better reply. He went down very well, cheers and applause after each record.
  15. I went to a do on Friday night from 10 until 3 organised by Lev and her mother Eve, who some may know. The event was a sell out prior to opening, 150ish at a guess. 90% of attendees were between 25 and 35, Lev's hard work has paid off in Bristol. Not all records played were "traditional" northern, but the floor was packed all night. There is a demand here for something other than the usual electronic shite played at most other "young" people's nightclubs. Hopefully that was the first of many. Well done Lev.
  16. Mine is the one on Discogs. I've found it out, I give it a play later and let you know what I think. Although I'm no expert nor a hi fi aficionado. John

Just arrived. Can't find reference to this. It's on ZZ Hill's brothers label. Possibly recorded live as the first half of pt1 is a very slow intro. Pt2 is a full on belter. Does anyone know about this? The one on Discogs is my entry. Cheers John

    Z Z Hill - Make Me Yours .

Just got the Z Z Hill album on UK Action, vg+ for 20 quid, well pleased.
  20. Mention of Vernon Garrett brings me to this belter also released on Watts USA. "We People In The Ghetto"
  21. On the TK distributed label Kingston, Rising Sun - Let Me Into Your Heart.
  22. A bit of r'n'b from B B King.
  23. A close third behind Johnny Copeland and Barbara Lynn but still a winner for me. Johnny & Lilly - Suffering City.
  24. Unsure of the date on this, possibly pre his Hi recordings. As he wrote and produced this and had 4 out of 5 of the records on Royal - Tone did he own the label? This has probably been discussed before but I can't find it any where. Gene Anderson - Baby I Dig You
