Non Payer - What Would You Do?
There are 18 members on here with the name Shaun in their user name; as one of them I wouldn't want anyone to think that your post was referring to me. I know that I'm not the individual in question. However, I'm concerned that dealers might now view any potential purchase I wish to make as suspicious because of my name. Pesonally I have no real issue with a name and shame policy but if you're not prepared to to give the full name of the individual concerend then perhaps you should not have given the christian name.

The Biggest Insult On Here
I agree that a DJ's job is top entertain the punters and that quite rightly they should be entertaining the dance floor. However, a typical 1 hour set will involve the DJ playing in the region of 15 to 20 records; if the DJ is really incapable of playing 20 OVO sounds that will be entertaining and interesting to a crowd then perhaps they shouldn't be DJing in the first place. All too often we hear the excuse that bootlegs are played to please the dance floor or that they were requests, well if that's really the case then DJ's should be playing CD's where the tracks haved been officially licensed rather than illegal bootlegs. My personal view is that playing bootlegs demonstrates a real lack of imagination and creativity of the part of the DJ. I'm sure that there are many dancers who don't care about bootlegs being played, just as I'm equally sure that there are many people who buy and wear fake watches who don't care about the children working in the third world sweat shops that make them. How many soul night attendees would tollerate their local working men's club selling them fake Vodka and using the excuse " Well it's ok it tastes the same so what's the problem" ?. Not caring does not make it right.

Yer Top 3 Cheap As Chips
Just three of many. I prefer the term inexpensive to cheap; there's nothing cheap about quality soul, regardless of the price tag. Having said that "As inexpensive as chips" sounds bollocks when you say it. You don't need to look too hard to find these at less than a tenner each. Record Insurance
I've played in amateur bands on and off for the last 20 years and have used Newmoon to insure all of my guitars amps and accessories. I'm no a big time collector and rarely DJ but I've just added my record collection and £25k cover for £125 seems reasonable to me. Several years ago I had a problem when making a claim via my household policy. I thought I'd done everything correctly, called the Insurer on two or three occasions to discuss the items I owned and to confirm that they were actually insured a part of the household policy. The mistake I made was not obtaining written confirmation that I was actually covered, even though I believed it was agreed verbally. To cut a long story short I had a claim rejected because I occasionally received payment from playing in a band. Ultimately my fault for being naive, but an expensive lesson learnt. I'm not saying that you can't insure a record collection as part of your household policy but my experience is that they don't really understand the specialist nature and value of some of our hobbies. My advice would be to clearly write down exactly what you expect to be covered and to receive written confirmation that it is covered as per your expectations. Most insurers will probably run a mile when you explain to them that your collection is made up of several second hand 7 inch singles that are 40 to 50 years old, yet can be worth several hundred pounds each. It just makes sense to me to use a specialist Insurer for specialist equipment and hobbies.

Agree with the above. I'm not 100% sure but I believe that this was a completely legitimatee re-issue rather than a bootleg.

Frank Lynch - Young Girl
In trying to find information on other recorded work by Frank Lynch l stumbled across the article below; it makes interesting reading and pretty much explains why I've not found anything. It also explains how waving a bathroom towel can be quite harzardous to ones health. www.sirshambling.com/artists/frank_lynch/frank_lynch.html

Soul Night Disgrace
I've got a pen in my pocket does that make me a writer Standing on the mountain doesn't make me no higher Putting on gloves don't make you a fighter It could also be argued that standing behind the wheels of steel spinning bootlegs doesn't make you a DJ. .There are many who play or support the playing of bootlegs but how many of them will actually come out and support the playing of sets from CD. It's not my thing at all, but for those that do support bootlegs I think it would be more honest and the sound quality would be better if they were using CD's. Although there are some exceptions, the DJ's who play bootlegs are usually playing very well known, for what of a better word, traditional oldies. Now this isn't an area that I'm particularly interested in but I would guess that any DJ who is could fill the floor with the following two spins: - The Mighty Marvellows - Talkin' Bout Ya Baby Spyder Turner - I Can't Make It Anymore I believe that this pair could be picked up for a combined price of less that £15 without too much difficulty. There are still loads of well known and indeed popular sounds that can be bought easily for very little money. There seems to be a suggestion that to play well know popular oldies you either have to play very expensive records or bootlegs of very expensive record. This simply is not the case, inexpensive does not, nor has it ever meant, unknown and anyone who suggests they have to play bootlegs of big sounds to get the dance floor full is really underestimating, and probably insulting the intelligence of their audience.

Zz & Co - Gettin Ready For The Getdown
Z.Z. and Company - Gettin Ready - Columbus Authentic Original! Quick check in case you own the inferior sound quality counterfeit. THE ORIGINAL deadwax has a deeply scratched matrix reading MRP/FR-JB - 51679 -"GRFTG" - Re2 . COUNTERFEIT Lightly scratched matrix FRJB - 51679 - A . then half a turn TLP. Surely the original with strong sound quality is the only 45 worth owning. Lifted from a previous JM SS posting

Fashions And Fads
Demob, I think the shop was on Beak Street just up the road from the Lonsdale shop. The average pair of trews from Demob would have made Simon Cowell's look like hipsters.

Promoters, Whats Going On ?
It used be but became the Peoples Republic of W'sey in early 2007and as such has a slightly different legal system to that of Cambs and Northants.

Promoters, Whats Going On ?
I guess it's ok just as long as the hypothetical promoter doesn't force you to attend his venue, pay your entrance money, and then listen to him play his collection of bootlegs. If you don't like a promoters music policy don't attend their venue. Alternatively you could find a venue and promote your own night. Having said that there might just be a few too many venues about at the moment to make this a viable option, not that this seems to stop people.
