  2. I shopped at Cappy's a couple times circa 1986-88. When I tried going back after that he wouldn't let me in. I also would see him at record fairs around that time. I'm not sure he's alive....Bob Mays is still going strong, selling out of his house (and garage, and shed). I had a little chuckle over David Meikle's line about going there in 2001 and finding it "uninteresting." Ha! I've bought literally thousands of great records from Mays during the 30-year span in which 2001 sits smack dab in the middle. What were you looking for, David?
  3. Love Quinvy and some others, but this is my all-time favorite.
  4. Was going to issue this myself but never got around to it. Now I don't need to.
  5. Played it here, Ady: https://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/52533
  6. "They Gonna Do What They Wanna Do"/"I Tried So Hard" I used to have a mint copy of this and it kills me that it disappeared and I can't seem to replace it.... Can anyone help?
  7. This was my crack at the "Baby That's a Groove" lyrics on a thread from 2013. Note: Though you lot think you "own" fish and chips, we ate them in Detroit too! Two o'clock in the morning and all the joints have just closed We picked up a bag of fish and chips and we headed for this place called home Love is on our mind, hey hey, and we're in the mood It's just a matter of time, oh, and baby, that's a groove My imagination is something else It's like looking through a crystal ball and what I see looks good to me as we climb the steps and walk down the hall Before I put the key in the lock, hey hey, I just had to stop because my baby turned and kissed me, said we've no time to lose I said, "Good, oh baby, that's a groove" Sweat was popping off of my face and [indecipherable lead vocal echoed by what sounds like "shit" from the backing singers] was all over the place You should have seen my baby move now that we had found our groove [MIKE TERRY BARITONE BREAK!] Put on a stack of fine 45s like "Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide" Found our groove and was having fun We were jumping [jamming? dancing?] to the sound of Junior Walker's "Shotgun" Sweat was popping off of my face and fish and chips was all over the place You should have seen my baby move now that we had found our groove...[repeat/fade]
  8. A few have turned up since my original post. Still love both sides.
  9. Yes, Kris. Was about to make a similar content. Strange for there to be two soul singers with this uncommon name.
  10. I Believe It's Alright. Anyone got a clean one for sale? Based on what it's been selling for recently, I'm looking to spend less than the $250 buy-it-now asking price for Craig Moerer's copy currently up on ebay and discogs. Thanks.
  11. Leasing it from whom? Zeke Carey's estate?
  12. https://www.45cat.com/record/44s Willie McCovey's label, named for his nickname as a long-armed San Francisco Giants first baseman. From hardballtimes.com: At 6-foot-4, McCovey was a very tall first baseman, particularly for his era. He also had exceptionally long arms, with the reach of a heavyweight boxer. When McCovey stretched to catch balls at first, he reduced the length of his infielders’ throws by six or seven feet. He also became adept at stretching both to his left and his right, allowing him to corral throws that might have been errant with another first baseman. Given his skill in reaching such throws, the nickname of “Stretch” became an obvious and fitting moniker.
  13. What's with January 14, 1963, and May 7, 1963? Are there other dates too? Had never noticed this till now. Random examples follow.
  14. "I Can't Go Back." Looking for a M- copy to replace my noisy one. Anyone?
  15. Though they were no longer in real use, the two-letter exchanges were still familiar to anyone living in Detroit at least through the seventies. TY was for Tyler, the name of the street my mother grew up on. There was a well-known local TV commercial when I was a kid ca. 1974 for a home-improvement company where the jingle instructed viewers to "call Tyler-8-7100 for a home-improvement date." My own exchange was UN, for University District, as I lived near the University of Detroit. BEechwood, the famous one in the song, didn't actually exist.
  16. Like this one. There do seem to be some label variations on this, but it looks legit. https://www.popsike.com/Northern-Soul-Otis-Smith-Let-her-go-Original-HEAR/280077656373.html
  17. Thanks, Robb.
  18. Does anyone know what's up with the great website motownjunkies.co.uk? All content is still there, but it hasn't been updated in quite some time, and I see no explanatory note.
  19. M- copies of the Kittens, "Ain't No More Room," and the Sweet Things, "I'm in a World of Trouble," please! U.S. originals only. Cash waiting. Thanks, Matt
  20. Whoa!! Surely someone as knowledgeable as Ian Levine must know that the Willie Tee on Crazy Cajun, the one who recorded "Sick and Tired," is A DIFFERENT PERSON ENTIRELY: Willie "Tee" Trahan, a swamp-rocker from roughly the same neck of the woods. Here's his website: https://willietee.com/ I mean, come on. Yikes, looks like even John Manship is a little confused: Two different Willie Tees, people. Could the one on "One More Chance" be the other one? How strange that he would have done a song by the better-known Willie Tee.
  21. My statement to the singer of this track: "I've met Willie Tee, I've spoken with Willie Tee, I have nearly every Willie Tee record, I've seen him perform live half a dozen times. You, sir, are no Willie Tee."
  22. Pat Lucky, Earthquake/You Sure Can Lie (Sue white promo). Clean as can be, flawless M- (only blemish is an X and someone's initials on Earthquake label). $550 $475 U.S. plus shipping.
  23. Jesse Thomas with Huey Piano Smith's Band, I'm Boss Yeah/That'll Get It (Ace), nice glossy VG+ (on a scale without E grades). Two killer New Orleans sides. $80 U.S.plus shipping from U.S.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-D1NLh55dIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ1MvRT3GWM Pussycats, Won't You Be Mine/One True Love (Dynamic), strong VG, my old DJ copy. Cool N.O. girl group mover. $65 plus shipping. https://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php… (move cursor ahead to 0:20:40)
