  1. phillyDaveG posted a soul guide event in Soul Nights

Another installment of the highly successful Bedfordshire soul night is happening on Saturday October 14th at Tilsworth golf club, just outside of Dunstable. Close to both the A5 and M1. Expect soul from all decades and all styles, from Northern to funk, crossover to jazz funk. DJs include Bob Cosby (soul essence), myself PhillyDave Grimes, and other top quality tune spinners. The last one was a fantastic and very busy event. A knowledgable and friendly crowd. Food available and probably some sales tunes too. FB link: https://www.facebook.com/events/858645649113011 Lederhosen is optional!!!
  2. An early Southport had copies of this and "We can make it happen" (which is even better imo) at £10 each!
  3. No mention of this in any Teddy P. interview or his biography - I think we need some solid evidence before attributing it to Teddy Pendergrass.
  4. Made and released in 2010. Pressing run of only 100!. - It has often found its way into my playbox, top tune, although the pressing on the 45 isn't the greatest.
  5. Hello all - The All Things Soulful show is back today, Saturday 5th September, Noon-2pm UK time. As ever, a wide range of tunes from all eras, for those soulful listeners with an open mind. Hope so of you can join me. 365soul.com
  6. The straightness of the arm is not your worry, some of the greatest record decks ever made employed staright arms. You should be far more concerned as to whether the deck has been correctly set up - tracking force, arm weight etc. and the state of the stylus, they are the things that will damage your vinyl.

  9. It's a Xmas pressie - better arrive sooner rather than later lol.
  10. Hmm, preordered on Amazon ages ago, still no sign of my copy arriving. According to the latest from Amazon "unforeseen problems have caused a delay" whatever that means. Anyone else not had theirs? Ian, any idea what's going on? Run out of copies?
  11. Images added to a gallery album owned by phillyDaveG in Albums 2013
  12. "You and me" actually first surfaced on CD back in 2009, nice to see it on vinyl now though, tip-top tune.
  13. One of the greatest voices of the 20th century. Incredible power, control and emotion. A legend is dead, but the music lives on.
  14. Very true. More tracks more payola I guess too lol
  15. Thanks for the PMs. I'll try to do the same with Neptune when I get a chance.
  16. Yes indeed, they are different versions. The timing shown on the LP is wrong, it actually clocks in at about 3.44, giving a whole extra minute of bliss including some great backing harmonies. Also, the dynamics have been adjusted, giving a much better sound quality,The probable reason the 45 version is shorter is that the manufacturing techniques of the time meant longer records had worst acoustics. Sacrilege to some, but for me the LP version is the superior recording.

  19. I can't give you a positive yes, but it seems very likely. The Billy was Billy Carlucci who was a native of Philly and had a group who signed to Landa. He was also friends with Johnny Madara and Patti Labelle. Given the coincidences and the Italian names I'd put money on it.
  20. Here you go, found one on the Net
  21. I didn't photograph the picture sleeves, just the records, sorry. I'll try to get it up here some time.
  22. From Vince's fb page; "Today we ask for the strength and prayers of those who loved Vincent Montana, Jr., who passed away peacefully today, April 13, 2013 with his loved ones beside him. A man who brought us great joy in so many ways. He will always be with us through his music."
  23. He also had a hand in writing and production at Philadelphia International. Including writing credits on classics such as "Love TKO"
