One Of The Holiest Of The Holy
most people who attend rare soul clubs ? this is just the type of rare record known by almost everybody on the scene but by nobody of it which is why we are all involved.

George Lemons
welcome to the world of rare soul. there are thousands of great cheap records but also more than enough very rare and expensive 45s. A big collection of CDs would be useful they certanly helped to get me started.

George Lemons
I wish I was hearing some of the tracks you are now discovering for the first time. It must be magic. have you got to george pepp on coleman yet ? another 45 I first heard around the time I first heard george lemons. There are plenty of bootleg CDs marketed around the stafford sound that feature a lot of these style of records.

Rev. O.c. Tolbert 'hard Times' (rolyak)
This is a fantasic record IMO. Now need to check which label spelling I have.... never realy knew that one was rarer than the other.

Ian When you came back with this haul of 4000 records. How much of yor DJ set for the years to come were taken from this one single batch. A large % or just a small % ? I ask this beacuse now it can take me years or months to simply add 1 record to my collection and now its certainly impossible to find this volume of quality soul music in one hit at a sensible price.

firghtening to think what may have been left behind in a quantity of records that large. I bet there were an immense number of records equally as good that never got chosen. Having a quick listen to each record to decide which ones to take must have been incredibly difficult. And look at what happeneed to Walter and Admirations it went on to become an iconic record. Still incredibly rare if i'm not mistaken ?

Freedom-can't You See(freedom)
sunshine on flip is also very good.

Wigan Casino
still plenty of good music right through 90s IMO if you liked that kind of thing. what clubs you went to is mainly down to what age you were and what music you liked at the time. I was only 15 in '89 so missed prehaps the very best clubs but still saw some good nights later on.

Wigan Casino
I get the feeling some people want the wigan tunes now and others don't. nostalgia of times gone by or move on and listen to songs prehaps not discovered or not made into big sounds at wigan. For me I could compare this to going to some smaller lesser documented house clubs circa ealy 90s and having just as good if not better times than in the superclubs like cream etc etc. smaller venues being more intimate and prehaps also more progressive the larger venues having to catering for a much larger prehaps easier pleased audience.

Benny Harper-my Prayer Harper Soul
I think some copies may also have a slight warp NAP. mine also had clean undamaged labels.

My Wants
this is a very common record where demand has spiralled the price way above what it should be. I'd stay clear of this one if I were you. I do like the record but I came late to collecting soul like yourself and wouldn't spend my money on something as expensive yet common as this. not trying to put you off..... just think you could spend your money more wisely.

Loretta Williams
nice to see its getting some recognition. I did get one on here only last year for that price but suspected it might have gone up a bit but wasn't sure. regretted selling my first copy and spent a long time looking for a replacement. a realy good record the powerful vocal and horn on the flip is what does it for me.

Benny Harper-my Prayer Harper Soul
spot on price wise i'd say. But a quick sale does make you think you should have asked for a touch more
-
Loretta Williams
which side did you buy this for or prehaps for both ? seems to be getting some demand just lately.... won't be a hard to find 30 quid record for much longer if this carries on.

Respect Yourself - The Stax Story

Record Prices - The Truth
this stuff is nothing new. Lonnie Lester was in every sales box going and probably still is in a lot of them and at 100 quid. I think its an incredibly common record and should be 20 quid tops but there you go. Wether I like the record or not I just can't justify paying that money for something that is always available. I recently baught the Bill Wright on Tragar oin here for 100 quid. It was graded low so I rang up for a listen. It paleyd great and I believe i've grabbed a realy good buy. It shows occasionally and usually pretty rough but in this day and age its a hard to find record. It amazes me how a record as fantastic as Bill Brandon "Rainbow Road" can go throuhg ebay for $150 now a days yet Sam Fletcher is always listed over 200 quid and is another example of a very common record. You just need to know what you want how much you want to pay for it a bollox to all the idle talk thats what I say. Roy Robets "You move me" is still considered a $10 record yet to me its fantastic and a touch undervalued if I didn't pay that price i'd have gone to 20 quid easily. this can go on and on.....

Record Prices - The Truth
John, if you haven't sold a copy of a record in the past 10 years does that make it expensive or cheap using this system ? i'll have copies of all the things that are coming to you for the first time if it makes them cheap a 10 year database must be a great point of reference. I sometimes wonder if or how you major dealers can even remember what records you had back in the 70 / 80s when mass volumes of 45s were coming over. It surely wasn't until much later when the true raritry of some records become more appreciated.
