All you've got to do now Kev is blag a serious discount from a big local toy store.
After all it is Christmas, you should be spending some serious dosh, it's local, and well - I don't suppose the publicity they could get would do them any harm either
Good Luck mate!
Kevin Kent
Hi Kev.
I'm surprised they didn't mention it when they interviewed you -
Connect Fm is working in conjunction with the Kettering Evening Telegraph to collect toys for Northants needy children this Christmas.
Hopefully I've added this link correctly

Have a nice break, see ya on the 8th!
Kev in Kent
I picked up a nice little book today "HEART & SOUL - a celebration of black music style in America 1930-1975".
Packed with graphics of album sleeves and flyers etc.
How about this bash at the Memorial Auditorium, Chattanooga, Nov 2 1965:
IMPRESSIONS
MAJOR LANCE
BARBARA MASON
WILLIAM BELL
GENE CHANDLER
GLADYS KNIGHT & THE FABULOUS PIPS
FONTELLA BASS
JAMO THOMAS ORCHESTRA
JERRY BUTLER
IKETTES
G.L.CROCKETT
Not bad for a TUESDAY night out eh?
SHADES - "..a club that introduced Northern Soul....." -I don't think so! Though those do sound like the words of a certain Northampton ex-sourcer.
Personally I'm not bothered if it re-opens or not. It wouldn't be the same. I spent many a happy time at Shades from day 1, and enjoyed it even more as the Maple Ballroom before it's initial re-furb. There were far better places within Northants if you were getting into what was to become known as "Northern" though. Get your gear together in Shades and head off to Wilby was the order of the day for me.
Happy days.

No one's got a scan then with Betty Lou and "Peanut Duck" on the same label?
Probably way off trax here, but with my poor hearing I detected what I thought was a certain similarity between parts of Dr Truelove and Peanut Duck .
Not in the quality of the tune I hasten to add - just in parts of the female vocal, allowing for a few years difference in age and vocal maturity.
.......I'll get my coat!
OOPS!
Of course, I meant to put Dr Truelove - and Iv'e been looking in to it for a couple of hours now so should have got it right!
Thanks for the info Matt.
Some assistance please from the more knowledgeable on here:
What is the original label for Betty Lou & Bobby Adams - Dr Truelove.
Also, where was this, or anything else by either of these artists, recorded?
-Kev.
Legend indeed, and has some really good prices on his vinyl - just be prepared for a 2 hour phone "chat"

Not half as bad as I was expecting. Just a poor alternative version.
More like finding an abandoned house if you're a squatter - it will suffice for some.
And yes, there is far worse out there IMO - I'll go for the Peanut Duck too.
Anyone going to Kev Such's "Christmas Cracker" at Rothwell nr Kettering on Dec 8th?
Usually a few sappers on the dancefloor there.

AGREED! And fed up with shredding bank statements as soon as they arrive.
But.......
Love, Love, Love -Bobby Hebb ,15p
Across The Street - Lenny O'Henry, £3.20
Baby I Know - Doc & the Interns, $5
Voltaire Pier - Chocolate Boys, 1 Euro
................................all originals.........make it all much more palatable, and FUN.
I'd guess that 78's don't ever go for big bucks, but once again stand to be corrected.
Thanks guys. A nice bit of debate on the Nappy Brown.
The reason for my search for a 78 copy? I heard it, liked it, but decided I wasn't prepared to pay £150 (or any 3 figure sum) for the 45. A Google search threw it up as a Savoy 78, can't remember the site, so I started looking for it casually without any further research. Nothing more than that really.
But, I bow to the experience and knowledge expressed here. I'll stop looking.
Too cold for boot fairs anyway!
Because I'm old and confused!
I've looked through so many car boot 78's in the hope of picking this up for 10p that I think I'd forgotten it wasn't the only format.
So thanks for putting me right

Sometimes I realise that being away from the scene for so long has advantages. I reckon I can spot a good tune without paying regard to what decade it's from, and without being influenced by where it was played.
This one - well I wouldn't give it house room.
But if anyone wants it there's an original copy on ebay - under 2 days to go, 1 bid, ...........99p.
About right IMO
