The Hard Rock was a very handy 400 yards from my house. They ran a few Northern nights under its The Village tag on Wednesday nights in the mid 70's I remember Andy Peebles DJing there.

Gaetano's was in Back Piccadilly. Martin from Roger Eagle's Rafters Nights DJ'd there when I went. Valentines in Chorlton used to have lots of good live acts.

I shall, most certainly, be attending. I am one who delights in all manifestations of the Terpsichorean muse.

Thanks for posting that. Nice to see a bit of recognition for a man who contributed so much to rare or northern soul.

What? No-one on Soul Source wants to express an opinion? Why so shy? Surely this has never happened before? I liked the layout, the previously unseen pictures and the personal stories. I thought the balance of emphasis between music and gear wasn't right. Three stars from me.

I go out to dance. I like the music to be loud enough that I can't hear what anybody says. I mostly go to nights round the North West where people shake hands and say Hiya. That's plenty for me. Every so often I'll see someone for the first time in years and we'll say more than hello but apart from the music we usually have nowt in common. The Mrs, on the other hand, loves a natter with all and sundry...especially the kids who she has taught over the years about half of whom seem to have turned into soulies.

I think it's a bit weird that soul source once again falls to bickering amongst itself about a film none of us have seen yet. I don't know Elaine but do know some of the young 'uns who have been involved in the film and who have told me about the lengths that she has gone to in order to make it authentic. She's made a film about something that has been part of my life for 30+ years. When it comes out, I hope I love it. I expect I will. Even if I don't, I will be very grateful that she tried so hard.

None taken. I remember Dulcimer in its previous incarnation as Quarmbys when I used to buy records there in the 60's.

Think you're way off there mate. I have been going to Highfield since they started and have seen Jordan, Ben and Danny dj elsewhere too. I love their full on enthusiasm and their amazing and ever increasing knowledge of the music. So they dress a bit seventies. They're happy, what harm does it do? If not for them, who'll be on the floor in 20 years time?

I thought it was well put together. I though Paul Mason emerged from it with great credit. Nice contributions from DJ's from one end of the age spectrum to the other - Richard Searling to Jordan Wilson. I'm increasingly optimistic about Elaine's film too.

The Kent LP's expanded my areas of interest in the 80's and every album introduced me to something I didn't know. I am the proud owner of a full set and love them all. Ady influenced my love of soul as much as Roger Eagle, Richard Searling and my mate Dave. I can't speak highly enough of him! Genuine hero!
