Inverts - Spare Copy
Guy actually started playing this in early '87, around the same time it was also played on his spot during Janice Long's radio show. If Stafford ended in early '86, he would likely have played it elsewhere, so it probably wasn't a "Stafford" sound. The story behind this, from my point of view at least, is as follows. I was privileged to be able to guest spot at the 100 Club in November 1986. I played this halfway through my spot. Immediately, two DJs (who remain unnamed, but you can guess!) rushed to the stage to find out "what the f*** this was" - of course, they claimed not to have heard it before and said they really liked it! A few months later, one of them had found a copy and was playing it! As a timewarp chapter, here's my spot I played that night in November 1986! NOLAN CHANCE: Let Her Know You Care (c/u) (actually "Never Tell" by B J Thomas & The Triumphs) THE CHAUMONTS: Now You've Gone (Bay Sound) GORDON KEITH: Look Ahead (Calumet) CLYDE McPHATTER: Lonely People Can Afford To Cry (Amy) SAM COX: Life Is Love (Renfro) ROYAL FIVE: My Baby Cares For Me (Cobra) THE INVERTS: Time Will Change (Broadway) BIG FRANK & THE ESSENCES: I Won't Let Her See Me Cry (Blue Rock) THE VOLCANOS: (It's Against) The Laws Of Love (Arctic) TY KARIM: Lighten Up Baby (Car-A-Mel) JOHNNY BARTEL: If This Isn't Love (Solid State) OTHELLO ROBERTSON: So In Luv (Era) TAMI LYNN: You My Love (Atlantic acetate) - lent to me by Keb before he sold it! THE AMBERS: I Love You Baby (Verve) LOU ROBERTS & THE MARKS: Ten To One (MGM) BOB BRADY & THE CON-CHORDS: Goodbye Baby (Chariot) THE INVERTS: Time Will Chance (Broadway) - 2nd time round as requested.

Values On A Few British Bits
I'd safely guess the Rufus Lumley demo (in view of today's climate) at around £350.

Inverts - Spare Copy
Hi Stevie, I actually bought mine in the summer of 1986, from Max Rees (Howard Mallet, Cambs/East Anglia), as an unknown from his list, for the princely sum of.....................£6! It eventually went to Carl Fortnum in the mid-90s.

No thanks, of course, to the person who first broke it at the 100 Club in November 1986.....hummmmph! :fool:

How D'ya File Your Tunes ?
I file mine round the edges with a coarse bastard. Helps 12" singles fit in 7" sleeves.

Is The Northern Scene Falling Apart?
29 years later and, on both counts, the answer is still a resounding NO!

Carstairs Record Brutally Attacked
Sorry Pete, but the story that you were the first person to break "It Really Hurts Me Girl" in Wolverhampton just doesn't wash!

Trent Sisters On Gogate - Price Anyone ?
Been told there's only one copy - and that's in the hands of Carl Fortnum. I could stand corrected though......................

The Postie Thread Again
Both very nice - and probably selling for around the £20 mark here. The Syl Johnson 45 is a nice uptempo, but laid-back, soul dancer which reminds me of Eddie Floyd in a way. I thought of "Knock On Wood", but it seems it's only an uncanny resemblence. The Bill Johnson 45 was Ady Croasdell's Z Z Hill cover-up from the mid-80s. Its B-side is also a good dancer - surprise surprise, it's the original version of Johnny Nash's "You Got Soul"!

Show Stoppers - Heartbreaker On Beacon
Yes- it's UK only. The official UK A-side, "Shake Your Mini" came out in the USA on Showtime, but I have only heard of double-sided demos. "Heartbreaker" has never been released outside of the UK.

Cajun Hart - Unanswered Questions And
His follow-up release was a cover version of "They're Coming To Take Me Away-Ha-Ha"! Seriously though, absolutely love it - always have.

Old Baz Ryley Cover-up
Around 1986, the late Baz Ryley played a latin-jazz instrumental which he covered up as "The Baz Tribe" by H B Barnum. Was it ever uncovered? And, if anyone knows, what is it?

An Idiot's Guide To Acetates
Actually, there's no harm whatsoever in cleaning acetates with water, but spirits, even lighter fuel, MUST be avoided. These will just tarnish the acetate and make it play terribly. I actually used bleach on an acetate that was caked in shite. Certainly cleaned it well, and it also sounded better as a result!

Atlantics - Tracy (all I Have Is You) On Faro
I thought it was credited to Barry White? Last I heard about it, the going rate was around £100 - £150.

The Anglos - Stepping Stone (aka You're Fooling Me)
It's the B-side of Incense, but called "You're Fooling Me". Was first released on a tiny Island subsidiary, Brit, and Fontana in 1965, and re-issued by Island in 1969 (about the same time they reissued "Harlem Shuffle", and the infamous "This Is Sue" sampler/compilation).
