  2. This post is very pleasing to read . CAn i be in your Garden with all of it's different shades and perfumes please ...this is how it should be . Unfortunately some people have to put things in boxes and label them and colour code them so that they are all played in the same tempo and style and then they have to disect everything how many beats a minute and then have to have rules ....do I wear my yellow under pants when I play the charades or do I wear my pink ones .... paaaaaaah ! I say just play what moves you and hope that it moves others . I am sure in early days gone by these rules didn't exist and I am also sure they were made up to make some feel more knowledgable than others when it comes to hours of debating Well in my view it makes them look like a bunch of sad old grumpy frayed anoraks.. that have nothing better to do ! I will mention how refreshing it was to go to a young club in Manchester on a friday night ( Beat Boutique) where most wern't "soulies" and what was played was in all sorts of styles that sounded brilliant ..... stick Sam & Dave on or Aretha in the mix they soon started to wiggle .... then a bit of what we call northern.... then a bit of funk.....oh lets have some Spanky Wilson or Deloras Ealey there you go ! Do they put the white coat and get the scalpel out in the morning and disect the frog.....not really it is about having a good time in their culture.... and there is always tomorrow ( Diplomatic eh ?) if you want more. Plus to get things into proportion you are reading the views of the minority here maybe 25 people max so don't take it as gospel..OMG did I mention gospel ! ... 25 contributers to a post hardly makes a dancefloor ... keep on playing without a rule book and you will amaze and entice .Did anyone mention also the latin influences as of late ...or was that a virus ? At this point I would love to attach a reward .. A bit of Marva Whitney .......... Unwind yourselves lol Turn your soul sooooooo looose ! Turn your soul so looose , don't be scared it wont break turn it looose and let it shake Babaloooooooooooo do anything you wanna do .... great lyrics that say it all John ...you are a foodie arn't you ... I can tell I do like brie .... not a blue cheese person though I am just recalling a moment walking through Camden market passing a record vendor and catching Kissin my love on the air by Spanky Wilson ..... well that enticed me to source some more funk tunes becuase that beat did move me . Watching the other shoppers ... they were all moving too ! What I will say is there are different variations within funk , some not for me just as it is in soul or any other genre Carms
  3. For me the future would be brighter if we just simplified things and changed our expectation for something to be soulful rather than having to define it as a specific genre..... that mind set opens all the doors even slower ones
  4. Are the ARENA 1 times Ready Yet??? Some of us need to plan our weekend ,, So much on offer ! Carms x
  5. I shall have to play "You brought it on yourself" later as a tribute to a great voice , not one for the dancefloor I guess but what a sound !
  6. I forgot to remember Chuck Flamingo - Whats my chances ! so I think I will drop the Utopias cause Chuck would have to be in there . Be interested to know who owns one of these because I have only ever heard it played once at the Dome by Ady Potts. Are there any others out there cause we NEED to hear this more often please. F...............n brilliant sound have to hear it now !
  7. I have passed my 50th .... so my 60th top ten if I had a bash I would love to play these .... If I had them Magnetics - Count the days Poets - Wrapped around your fingers Tempos - I'll never forget Clarence Townsend - I found Love Karmello Brooks - Tell me baby Honey &t he Bees - Lets get together Imperial C's - Someone tell her Utopias - Girls are against me Antiques - Go for yourself Johnny Summers - I can't let go
  8. Flynny I remember many moons ago when we were young Ktfr's lol and I was harping on about liking Jackie WIlson and you came in and said try Haunted House. Now I must confess at the time I though you were bonkers . I could not see what was so good about it .... but then Ias I got older and fatter lol I started to appreciate it and yes I agree a superb sound that really pulls on your heartstrings. I still love "I Lost you" ..... as an upbeat Jackie the lyrics are just superb Last week I was given an old KTF review that I wrote when Maria and I had a weekend at the Aqua and Tonys in Blackburn .... my god I sent myself dizzzy reading it lol Funny how time changes things now that s a cue for a song...... Chuck

  11. Do you know I only had this dicussion two months ago with Browny .... Why hasn't/doesn't anyone do a manchester Ritz reunion ? Will defo come along to this the place has some great memories for us.... bouncy bouncy floor !
  12. You are right Dave it was Lancashire. I guess we will never know the answer ? Anyone that may have given or taken a back hander to keep it going won't admit to it now will they. Lets just stress this is all assumption.... not fact BTW before anyone takes offence.
  13. This is the point I am trying to make "Spike" If Wigan came /comes under Greater Manchester Police , maybe at the time the force was much more focused in other areas. like the city itself ? I was working and living in Manchester city centre in 73 and I used to hear things on a regular basis at work about areas like "Moss side" for example getting a lot of force attention , plus there was the city centre to control. Maybe because there wasn't any reported crimes ...they left Wigan alone ... its just a theory ... and I would have thought a reasonable one at that ? ... I really don't understand your get real remark
  14. You know I am always impresssed when I hear her "I'm holding on " played out, it always sounds like an expensive record and then I feel quite smug realising that I have one in my home.
  15. Maybe it was just off the Police radar ? Do they have a large police force in Wigan , not being the best when it comes to navigation , does Wigan fall under a larger police authority that would have a drugs unit ? If so maybe they were more big city focussed at the time ? or didn't want a potential riot .... or maybe the Township welcomed any business having the club open actually brought to the town? I reckon uncle Joe made a MInt Usually its residents that bring down a club type establishment ... I would think ?
  16. Yes wouldn't you know the very day I wrote to you asking you when did you send it ... It arrived ..Christmas eve ! Santa must have smelt my freshly baked pie .. the change from mince to apple and Blackberry was just too much of a temptation for him he simply had to call. The urchins want me to thank you for selling it to me so cheap .... this means they only had to clean 40 chimneys instead of 60 ... Now next year if you could find me a nice copy of the Pacesetters around end of March time that would be great its called "I'm gonna make it "at oh and a nice favorable price would be nice . Miss Cheeky drawers
  17. Can I just mention a couple that really pull chain and are from early days that I think kind of got under my skin and enticed me to sample some R&B type soul. I still love Staxy soul today and I do believe my R&B leanings are as a result of tunes like this . Oscar Tony Jnr - Ain't that true love Sonny Boy Williamson - Help me Domino's - 60 minute man John Lee Hooker - Boom Boom John Lee Hooker - Dimples Jimmy McCracklin - Can't raise me Slim Harpo - Gonna keep what I got And a great B sides.... Soul Sloopy and Jnr Walkers Nothing but soul which were introduced to me by Les I really must get round to reading Central 1179 because it has so much information in it , just scanning through it now , its a gem of a book if the Wheel interests you.
  18. Nice to see you showed him some hospitality Steve can't be an easy time of year for him ..... and am I surprised a hangover ...am I not actually I showed hospitality yesterday to my ex partner who I always seem to see on Christmas day as he has no family to share it with... who you guessed Brian a Brazennose street guy ...eeem I shall have to ask him to recall some memories for this thread.... thats if he can remember lol I know the records with middles he held in very high esteem and he lost a few friends to drugs at the time ..it was a truly wild time. Be nice if this thread reunites some old souls dont you think ? perhaps an ex wheel register might be in order ? can't be many of them about? Carms x
