We paid $500 each They used to give them away free to the crowd at there performances. We met up and got our copies about 7 years ago Wonder how many they let go

Hi Sy You can buy mine then (only joking) I remember the worry when Montclairs -hey you and Greater Experience turned up in small quantities, but they soon shot up to there original value and higher Problem is when something is found in count boxes you never now if all the find is being put out there or drip feed to the eager punters. Panic sets in - and we all end up blaming you See ya soon MIck

"switch Around" Acetate
I'm a little surprised to read that Rob and Steve found the record. I had the pleasure of going to Roses a year or so later with Rob and the story was that Rob and Andy were the discoverers. She still managed to surprise us with more quality including that odd ball thing Build Build Build by Kurt Harris under a different name that escapes me

John Manship Auction Results 11-12-2013
I get that completely but I got the idea that some people were questioning if the records do fetch the prices shown at the end of the auction, from my own experience then the answer is yes

John Manship Auction Results 11-12-2013
JM auctioned a couple of records earlier this year for me and they fetched higher than expected prices. I was payed the agreed percentages so I cant see how his prices can be questioned. Hes just good at what he does

Archie Bell And The Drells
Had the pleasure of meeting Archie in a record shop in the states, I asked him about A Thousand Wonders only coming out on Spanish. He could not recall the reason why but said he didn't sing it as he swooped places with one of the Drells for that track. I was told that a program for Fleetwood was produced before the cancellation and in the program there was interview with Archie and he commented about when he sang the song

J Mcfarland Issue - Rarity
Had a clear out 10 months ago, blue issue in M- was in my sales box for 2 months at at £180. Everyone gave it attention but no-one bought it. That includes two of the country top dealers (thought they may of made an offer - but saying that they both did spend well on other stuff) Pulled it out of sales box and keep it.

‘It Shouldn’T Happen To A D.j’
In general it's fair to say that soul nights are safe places to go (providing Kev Thomas isn't there lol) In my local area of Nottinghamshire I DJ'd at three different venues in a six month period and a fight broke out at all three during my set. The worst was between the promotor and his wife on stage near my record box. My mates blamed my record choice. Whilst double decking with Mick Bolderson at Prestatyn in the Redemption room a photographer approached us and asked if he could take a photo. Naturally we said yes, put our arms around each other and gave a big smile. The photographer pointed his camera down at the decks and photographed the record being played and then walked away. We were stood there like a pair of twats. Not forgetting a set I did at the Nottingham Brit when I was approached by the guest DJ (who is now off the scene thank God) and told to take my record off half way through as he was under the impression that he had the only copy. I refused, he complained to the promotor (who's a very close friend of mine) the promotor insisted I took it off as his guest DJ was most upset. Good times Mick

Val Shively. Millions Of Rnb Records
Went about 8 years ago, got a fair stack of 45s. V.S. threw them into two piles 1 pile at $10 and the other at $20 and a couple of odd higher priced ones. Would of expected a lot better for a store of the size with a regular influx of new/old stock V.S. liked to comment on his preveous UK customers but was ok. Loads of artist photos on the wall in shop front

Which Northern Record Do You Want Played At Your Funeral?
- Prestatyn - October 2011 Cancelled
Real shame about the October event but fingers crossed that March one happens I have been to everyone and have been priviliged to DJ at them all I remember the first tune played by Pete Stone in the main room So many memories I would like to thak everyone involved in making the last 10 years so very memorable and enjoyable Thanks to Mark Fletcher, John Poole, and Fish not forgetting the contributions of Bernie O'Brien, Rob Thomas Andy Rix and all the DJs who made this one of the biggest and best events ever. Special thanks for all the listeners of Channel 5 Radio who made my job on the radio easy (I'm still counting the money received from the Blackmai show) The experience of actually meeting and getting to talk to the artists without restriction which was unique to the Prestatyn Weekender is something that I will miss All the best Mick- Nottingham Soul Club 1St Jan

Im not one for forums and ive just signed up to this today to put my side of the story across, for I am the DJ who played the record that's caused so much concern. Firstly, I dont support the playing of boot legs but i wont criticise those that do, as now days to be a DJ in this scene you need to be extremely wealthy, who are we to means test a DJ? I've been Djing at this particular venue on behalf of Mick H for many years, Mick wouldn't allow this if i didn't have the vinyl to do so. Now the record in question, this was given to me by Rob, I took it in good faith that it was one of two copies both equalivent. I have known Rob for many years and have no reason to doubt his word. As i was DJing at a Rare Soul night I obviously played this rare Soul record, I did announce what it was I was playing then was approached by James, he asked me what i was playing (probably didn't hear my introduction). I told him, so his claim that it was being played by a DJ who hadn't heard the record and didn't know anything about it are incorrect. James then asked me to remove the record as he claimed I was playing a bootleg. I refused, he asked for a second time, I refused again. He left the stage and returned very quickly with Mick H. Mick asked me to remove the record, I refused but did say to Mick that he could remove it if he wished. He signalled to James to do so, James carefully lifted the needle and I then started the next deck which was already queued up. James then went to speak to Rob, shortly returning to me and apologising for what had happened and we shook hands. Also, i would like to confirm that Rob has frequently attended this venue after retiring from Djing there. Finally, i can understand James' frustration to find out there is another copy in existence, of which was not only lent to me for the night but given to me permanently. Mick - Prestatyn - October 2011 Cancelled
