Tymes - Here She Comes (a Question)
Hi back again to try to sort out whether or not the one I have just purchased is a boot or an orig. It is the USA Parkway Demo with 'Malibu' on the flip. On both sides there is a row of tiny dots or a stamp too small to read even with a jewelers loupe. Scratched into the run out on the 'Here she comes' side is P924BR , and on the 'Malibu' side is P924 (AA scratched out) and then A-R-2. Any ideas please?

Current buying from the US
True about the US postage cost to the UK, it is, or should be about the same as UK to US, but some US sellers are charging $24 for some reason, and if they use the eBay Global Shipping Program , it will cost more. You really have to take the postage costs into account when buying from the US, it can make the difference between it being a bargain or the right price to it being expensive. For instance I found a record on Discogs for $3, it was cheap at that but only still worth about £8 in real terms. The seller was charging $24 P&P, which made it expensive to buy so i cancelled the order saying it was not worth buying with that price postage added.

Current buying from the US
Also it's a good plan to avoid US sellers that use the eBay Global Shipping Plan. I wonder how many know that wherever you buy from in the US, the package has to travel to Pitney Bowes in Kentucky, where they open the boxes and repack it them make the package lighter for shipping so that it is cheaper for them to send? although they get a certain amount from eBay for the shipping, it is in their interest (but not the buyers) to ship for as little as possible. There are videos on Youtube from people that know and have experienced this. Here is one.

Current buying from the US
I think it is still worth buying from the US and Europe if the records you are buying are worth more than you are paying. For instance I have just bought a copy of the Tymes - Here she comes on Parkway Demo for a little over a fiver, the postage cost was $14 about a tenner? so £15 is a good buy. There are many others I could name. But I have cut back on buying records that are selling for what they are worth from the States and Europe due to the £ to $ exchange rates. It's also worth remembering that it costs the same to post from Europe as it does to post within the UK so a 7" single shouldn't be costing any more than £4 postage wise, of course you have to take into account the cost of packing materials, but that's pennies.

Tymes - Here She Comes (a Question)
Yes this is why I reopened the thread, there are so many different copies of this and label designs it's really hard to know what's what. I only bought mine yesterday and haven't got it yet, so can't post matrix numbers of mine yet. I will when I get it through though. Strange that yours has no indication of whether it's a Promo/DJ copy, although it is a white label.

Paying for your guest DJs?
Yes indeed, when I book the more expensive DJs, the price is discussed and agreed on months before the event, and usually a percentage of the fee is paid on booking, along with agreeing on the rider conditions. Then when the DJ arrives at the event on the day everyone knows the score. Another annoying thing is when you have to run around after the organiser/Promoter, to get paid. This has happened to me at my DJing gigs a few times over the years, there's nothing worse, it belittles you, and makes you feel like you are begging for what you are owed. That is why when I run an event, the wages are paid out without anyone having to ask for them and before the event draws to a close. There is no substitute for experience, and having that experience you can draw from it to iron things out quickly and professionally, and it also aids you to foresee and dispel problems quickly when they arise, and many times before they happen. I am very lucky at the 'HiFi' club where the Central is held, as the staff are amazing and also very experienced, and nothing is too much trouble, they literally bend over backwards to make sure everything goes well. Yes there have been a few problems in the past, but one word to the manager or a member of staff and it gets sorted immediately. I think that having that sort of relationship with the venue staff is one of the most important elements to running a successful event.

Paying for your guest DJs?
I can honestly say, that although I am a House DJ too, I personally would not give any of them more that £100, reason being that they all play off USB sticks, LOL. I remember booking Pete Tong in 1994 and he cost £1200 then, but the amount of publicity we got with the booking was phenomenal, with him mentioning the gig on his Radio 1 show all week before the event, we had a full house of 1800+ and 400 queuing outside to get in.

Paying for your guest DJs?
LOL, well, no, not at an all dayer, I'm tucked up in a nice warm bed at midnight, event times are 1-8pm normally with a bit of an extension on special occasions such as Bank Holidays etc.

Paying for your guest DJs?
As i say Len, it has all been more than worth the worry at the start, standing on the door at every event hoping that people would turn up is the lonliest place in the world.

Paying for your guest DJs?
My 2 penneth then I ran the Leeds Central from the start of the reunions 5 years ago, and the DJs that were booked were all too willing to do it for free for the first few events until it picked up and looked like a runner, mainly due to the fact that they were and are all original Central DJs from the 60s and 70s, and they wanted as much as myself to see the Central back up and running. I then started to pay them and they were more than happy. I try to keep the door prices to a minimum for a City centre venue, it's not easy sometimes, as the promotion, Security and whatever else that goes with it, doesn't come cheap, and rises regularly. I only raise the door price by £1 or so when the Guest DJs booked have to be paid, as they usually cost more than the residents, if they don't, the price stays the same. This year due to rising costs the price has gone up by £1, but I still think that £7 for a 7 hour all dayer with 7 DJs, in a legendary venue is good value compared to what others sometimes charge. At Christmas this year there were 10 DJs (one A list) and the event went on for 8 hours, and I still only charged £8, £1 per hour is good value in anyones books. An issue in the original planning of restarting the events, was that that it HAD to be the original venue, and if I couldn't have secured that, it wouldn't have happened at all. It's just that the original venue happens to be in the center of one of the biggest cities in the UK, and that was never gonna be cheap to do, but I bit the bullet and took the chance, and I can say with all sincerity, that it has all been more than worth the initial nervous breakdown, and I buzz and smile every time I see the Central in full swing - That my friends is Priceless

Info please - Solomon King
Yes it was a marketing ploy to change the name to make it more 'Street'. As said before I have seen many LJ demos, but hardly any SK ones. and I don't think I have ever seen a LJ stock copy, but have seen and owned 3 SK stock copies. As posted twice on here, the one I have at the moment, not the Demo I am selling, but the stock copy of SK, has different run out etchings to any others catalogued, and no one on 'SS' knew why this was. That is the reason I am keeping my SK stock copy and selling the demo as I think the unusual stock copy that I have has to be rarer, even though I don't know why it has different markings. Also the 'A' side of the one I have is titled 'Say a prayer for me', not 'Say a prayer' as are the other SK stock copies. Figure that one out :-) I've attached the images if you fancy doing a bit of research

Strange innit 'Sheep'? how just a change of name can make a difference? It's the same person anyway, and I've seen more Levi Jackson Demos, than Solomon King ones.
