Daptone Gold
The world capital of soul has moved around a lot in the last 50 years or so.For most of the '60s, it shuttled back and forth between Memphis and Detroit,with occasional stopovers in New Orleans, Cincinnati and elsewhere; in the '70s, it relocated to Lagos for a little while, before going into international exile with occasional appearances here and there. And for the better part of the past decade, soul's central headquarters has been in Brooklyn--specifically an old two-family house in Bushwick that was converted into the Daptone Records headquarters in 2003.
Coming November 24th, we are releasing a 23 track compilation featuring rarities, classics and previously unreleased tracks from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, The Budos Band, Binky Griptite, Lee Fields, Antibalas and more.
