Guy Hennighan on the BBC video interview

Also news on a site Guy is involved with (see links)
a brief clip check out link at end for site details
Guy Hennigan
Now living in Manchester Guy Hennigan is recognised as the man who revived Northern Soul from the doldrum that was the aftermath of Wigan Casino.
Along with Keb Darge - now a highly paid (not that he'd want anyone to know it! - sorry Keb) funk DJ, Guy brought sixties newies to the scene and remains a vociferous advocate of the quality and not the quantity of soul music.
Record collector, promoter and DJ he started his soul career at the tender age of 11 listening to his sisters records and learning from his friend across the street.
He passionately believes in Northern Soul - the music and hates any unworthy attempts to make it trendy

http://www.bbc.co.uk/manchester/going_out/clubbing/2003/08/20/guy.shtml
Guy Hennigan on Northern Soul :
I'm getting tired of making excuses for Northern just because of some chicken adverts... the scene is a bit of a dinosaur but there's still plenty of quality music to be found and that's what's important.
Guy Hennigan on being a collector :
Don't bother trying you need to be a millionaire nowadays and it's almost impossible to start a good collection if you're not...besides there are loads of cds available and they're more than satisfactory if you're not serious about collecting but you want to have some music at home.
Guy Hennigan on being a DJ:
There's very few quality DJs around now that are doing anything to progress the music...there's people running successful nights off the back of playing oldies etc and that's fine but I'd say that only Butch is doing anything like what used to be done...I'm semi-retired now and I'm lucky that I still get asked to DJ at good quality nights... my knowledge isn't anything like it used to be...but my knowledge is still 90% better than a lot of people professing to be DJs at the moment.
Guy Hennigan on having the knowledge :
It's everything and you can't be taken seriously without it...I get really p****d off when I hear people particularly on the radio talking about a subject they know little or nothing about.
Guy Hennigan on Northern Soul being trendy again :
If it attracts new people that's a good thing but I'm very wary of the media...Northern's been misrepresented before and I don't want that to happen again...
Guy Hennigan on why he still loves Northern Soul :
The music is still the best I've ever heard anywhere and what excites me is that records I used to think were no good I'm discovering are excellent...and that's what's truly great about Northern Soul.
Guy Hennigan on his Top 5 records:
The ones I haven't heard yet.
Guy Hennigan on the ones that got away :
Not that many but yeah I'd like to have them before I get too old.
Guy Hennigan on the size of his collection :
Not big enough...several thousand...I think!
Guy Hennigan on the future :
Well I'm going to carry on doing what I do but my website is also a focus for me now - it's a collection of photos - an archive of Northern Soul which eventually I intend to be a creditable and recognised user generated site where people can get in touch with one another - and embarrass one another in many cases (laughs) - but also it'll be a way of me buying and selling online. I've got lots of things in the pipeline but I don't like to give too much away!

A review of SOUL IN THE CITY 1 Oct 03 By Gene Robertson

SOUL IN THE CITY at BAR NYLON, LONDON – 1st OCTOBER 2003
By Gene Robertson
Since the days of the Old Blue Last , Soul In The City’s previous venue, they certainly have kept the soul flag flying by providing top drawer midweek Northern Soul for all, on the first Wednesday of every month, right in the heart of the City of London. The new venue, Bar Nylon in Addle Street, is a superb wine bar/night club type setting with a decent-sized dance floor – and it’s talc friendly!!
I visited SITC at Bar Nylon on Wednesday 1st October – it’s just around the corner from where I work, making it even more of an ideal venue. The DJs, Dave Greenhill, Paul McKay, Martin Thomson and Mac provide the sounds, and thrive on a strict policy of playing original 45s only – one I completely agree with!!! Arriving there at about 8pm, the club was already in full swing with about 40 – 50 people, and the dance floor was already pretty full!! There were a few “city girls” in abundance, but they really made an effort to enjoy the music and have a dance (though by our standards, even though they like the music, the city punters have a lot to learn about soul dancing!! No real disrespect, since they enjoy what they hear and you can’t knock ‘em for that…..). Paul McKay was behind the decks at this point spinning the likes of “You’re Gonna Miss A Good Thing” by John Bowie, “You Don’t Love Me” by Jerry Ganey (yes, Jerry got there long before Dawn Penn!!!), “Carbon Copy” – Larry Trider, amongst others, keeping the feet happy of all those on the dance floor. (See below for selected playlists).
MartinThomson & Dave Greenhill
Next up was Dave, with his usual mix of top dancers, including “Soft Walkin’” – Freddie Houston, “On The Stage Of Love” – Ronnie & Joyce (why don’t some more DJs get behind this one?) and “I’m So So Sorry” – Don & Ron. For those of you who don’t know Dave, he’s been collecting for well over 20 years now, and has never sold a single item!! Makes my blood boil, these people who can pay £20 for Ray Pollard on Shrine………..!!!!
By around 10pm, the venue had filled up considerably, and there were well over 100 people in. Martin Thomson followed immediately. Been a good year for Martin; he and Audra married in February this year and, in August, added baby Curtis to the family (named after guess who?). It was at this point I decided to “burn the boards” to sounds like “Love Is Dangerous” – Frank Polk, “Tell Me Baby” – Karmello Brooks and “No Second Chance” – The Deadbeats et al.
Mac closed the night with half an hour of choice stomping oldies, in the form of “Run For Cover” – The Dells, “That’s When The Tears Start – The Blossoms, “I’ll Try” – Sam & Bill keeping those diehard soulers, who stay till the end, up on the floor. I left the night with that feeling, knowing it had been an excellent night – looking forward to the next one (which, incidentally, is on Wednesday 5th November and every 1st Wednesday thereafter)!
In closing, you’ll be hard-pushed to find a more classier soul venue in London than Bar Nylon. Nights start at 6.30 and run until midnight, and entrance is free until 7pm, when door tax of £3 kicks in. What a night!!!!!

Last Northern Event at Brooklands in Barnsley Nov 08

Having had nearly 2 fantastic years, the Northern Soul event at Brooklands Hotel in Barnsley closes its doors on Saturday November 8th...but we go out with a bang. Guest DJs on that final night will be Ginger Taylor and Soul Sam. There seems to be a different story every week as to why we are leaving. To set the record straight there are 2 reasons. A) The hotel would prefer to use the venue to host weddings, of which from a financial point of view I can understand. B) When we first started the event in February 2002 there was the Catholic Club and ourselves operating Northern events (of any kind) in Barnsley. Over the last 18 months Barnsley got Northern Soul fever and in any given month there has been up to 10 different Northern related events appeared in the town! If I point out the obvious that there is a limit to how much an individual can spend on socialising in a month ...fill in the gaps. The result is that Broolands dropped from 250 every month to around 100 and as such made it difficult to maintain Premier Class guest DJs in what is without doubt a superb venue. In fairness it should also be pointed out that on 3 occasions some very high profile DJs didnt turn up on the nights they were booked! That doesnt help when youre taking money off people who come to see these DJs, does it? On to positive things then. It looks like we have got a new, very nice and exciting venue sorted for 2004. More details as and when. Until then, lets look forward to the last night at Brooklands which will be huge. Not only do have we have Ginger and Soul Sam but also, what I believe to be the best residents line up around. Snowy, Derek Pearson, Gary and Derek Greenhoff. It all starts at 8pm, thats 8pm and carries on until....we go home! Finally Id just like to say thanks to all those that have supported the event.....the many guest DJs Ginger, Kev Roberts, Terry Davies, Derek Allen, Kenny Burrell, Tim Brown, Dave Evison the list goes on. If you played thanks....thanks to all the web sites that spread the good word - invaluable. As are the radio shows, so thanks to Kev Roberts and Richard Searling. And finally most importantly the people that turned up every month, thanks very much indeed. Dave Needham Brooklands Hotel, Barnsley Road, Barnsley. 01226 299571. J37 M1

BROUGHTON WINGS CLUB - 18 OCTOBER 2003 - REVIEW

Brilliant night with 200+ real soul fans in with ram-packed dancefloor action.
Guests Kevin Jones and Keith Williams playing the most popular to the rarest of the rare sounds to an appreciative crowd.
Soul Sam and Brian Ellis rounding things off, as usual, with a playlist of Broughton favourites plus a larger number of previously unplayed items with excellent reaction from an open-minded audience - soooo refreshing!
Broughton Wings goes from strength to strength - a really plush venue (newly installed, massively expensive aircon system makes the room very comfortable even when packed as last night); too-cheap-to-print bar prices (OK - lager £1.50 a pint, other drinks of a similar price - you wont feel too much of a hole in your pocket on Sunday morning) and admission just £2.50 proving that you can get top quality on the cheap.
Our next 2 soul nites (November and December) sees guest appearances of Neil Jones (Bury Town Hall) and Mark Big Daddy Bicknell (Solar Radio) alongside local DJs Phil Blacknell and Steve Thomas (Drunken Monkey). If youre coming suggest you get there early if last night is anything to go by.
All dates for 2004 have now been confirmed (generally 3rd Saturday). We will continue to bring a full range of across-the-board soul music from every genre with an interesting guest DJ line-up of nationally acclaimed DJs.
Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the past 3 years and who have made Broughton what it is today - a major standout soul event in a busy calendar.
The Wings Club has really taken off.

Grapevine Soul (16-10-03) London

CALLING ALL LONDONERS....SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TEAM!!!! I went down last night to check out Grapevine Soul in Brixton. Among the Djs on last night were Frankie, Kev Moore, Ady Croasdell, Roger Stewart.... and Heikki (who i didnt get to see as Janice asked me to cover the door whilst she danced). Although the Brixton Road is not the Champs Elysees, to state the blindingly obvious, it's more pleasant than one might suspect - and Bar Lorca has a good car park for those not a pieds. It is a fine venue, which combines chilled out lounging with pleasing touches of hipness. If like me you have to be up at the crack of dawn on Fridays - its still worth popped out to Grapevine for a quick drink and dance - you definately feel like it's been exciting and worth it, even if its just for a couple of hours. Grapevine Soul has two rooms, the first as you walk in is the modern room which has a superb wooden floor and also houses a large projector screen playing NS footage throughout the night. The second room is blinking massive - a little darker, with an atmosphere more suited to 60s soul (funnily enough). Kev has also done all the art work across the walls in this room. Very impressive! Anyway - despite the boys putting a lot of effort into getting Grapevine off the ground over the last few months , attendance is still very very low. The venue is perfect, the music is off great quality and the promoters hearts are in the right place. So why has no-one bothered checking this place out This could be down to one of a few things - either people don't want to come to Brixton, they don't like coming out on a Thursday night, or not enough people are aware of Grapevine yet. I'm sure once you've checked this place out that you'll get over the Brixton thing! It's psychological and heck, we've all travelled to more hostile and far flung places than South London for a bit of soul. The Thursday thing Kev is trying to address and is in negotiations with the venue owners to get it shifted to Friday. And lastly - awareness, .. well that's all just down to word-of-mouth and a little bit of time. Ooh I remember that days of Capital Soul at Bar Shoreditch and look at it now. Right ... enough bantering for today .... better get back to work . Grapevine Souls website Next Night: 30th October (9pm to 2am) Special guest DJs - Fish and Gavin Paige. cheers Kolla

The 21st Century Soul Xmas Present List

Hi All,

I thought as is getting close to the festive season that it might be a nice idea and metion a few possible gift ideas for todays Northern Soul fan.

This item is inspired by the new yet to hit the streets Wigan Casino Soul Club - 30 Years Of Northern Soul Memories - CD FBUBX101 from Fabulous Records with a pop up full colour model of the Wigan Casino in its Northern Soul hey-day! So inspired by this ive been looking around for other goodies which Santa may deliver on the big day.

Firstly Northern Soul The Board Game, a wonderful journey of discovery, this game for up to six players will give hours and hours of pleasure, infact you feel like you are really at a Northern Soul venue when playing this without leaving the comfort of your own home. Its a game for everyone you can be a record collector, promoter, punter, drug dealer orDJ, experence the whole scene with realistic politics, venue clashing, back stabbing the whole real deal is here... The object of the game is to move around the board trying to avoid the many traps and horror along the way, you can buy and sell records, run a venue, fill a venue and play the nostalgia or future cards, the rules are a little complex but once mastered this game becomes very addictive. The playing counters are designed in the keep the faith black fist in red, green, blue, white, yellow and black so plenty of battles to start as you will all want to be the black one i know as i did when i first opened the box. The price for this seems a little high at £339.99, but the board is hand painted and crafted in China, its ok another Monopoly type game, but in the Northern Soul version jail means jail if your found out to be a bootlegger for example, there are so many twists and turns to this game i can see it becoming a best seller very quickly, produced by Afastbuck Ltd.

Next up we have the Northern Soul Action figure, this is a fantastic toy and was only a matter of time before it hit the streets. There are male and female versions of this doll sorry action figure, approx 12 inches high with realistic hair, movable joints and record box with the male version. There are also talking versions in development which should be ready for next Christmas. The price is reasonable on this classy item being £99.99 each ( oh the DJ versions also in development will be a limited edition set of six at £299.00 each but chances are there will very quickly be copies of these out there so i suggest you pre order these directly form the makers which are SoulDoll Ltd of Wigan.

And lastly one for the children Charlie - The Soulful Singing Chicken £39.99 which is a bargain for this electronic gismo, Charlie is very much based on the singing fish idea popular a few years ago but Charlie has an incredible 2,000 original full version Northern Soul records in his memory and is an ideal way for the children to also enjoy Northern Soul thats of course if you can get him away from mum and dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He sings, dances and chuckles away to some outstanding classic Northern Soul, he even tells you to fuck off if you try and play the same record twice in the smae hour, a real clever chicken.

Although these items are most enjoyable and would be a fantastic gift for anyone , top of my Christmas list will always be a hard to find, original not often seen American first generation 45, basically the things that are the fundimental single most important part of the Northern Soul scene and not how much more manufactured crap do we have to put up with , im glad September 2003 has now passed so we can get on with the promotion and development of Northern Soul circa 2003, now and for the future and stop looking back throught rose tinted glasses at past glories.

Keep it real and in the 21st Century. Mark Bicknell.

Chalky At The Monkey

Well after a great night at the Wilton with a quality dj line up it was time to leave for North Wales and make Monkeys of ourselves (Andy Dyson and Mick H, the two guests for the night and myself.
Arrived an hour and fifty minutes later to be greeted by such a wonderful sight, two lasses in fancy dress, one dressed as a genie....f*****g ell could have rubbed her lamp but as my hands were full with Andys record boxes any thought of playing Aladdin soon disappeared Was sorely tempted to put the boxes down and head next door but as we werent suitably dressed for the occasion had to settle for the Drunken Monkey Soul Club!
All I can say is top night and top crowd. Musically great with the emphasis on quality, non of the usual overplayed hammered to death soul you get at some other venues. We all had a great night and cant recommend this place enough, you really ought to try and get along.
Crowd were fully appreciative of all the records played regardless of individuals tastes. As I said earlier Andy and Mick H were the guests and they didnt disappoint. Both played blinding sets as did all the djs on the night. Our ears were treated to sounds like Soul Inc, Sensations- Demanding Man, Robert Tanner - Sweet Memories, Vanguards on Shirley (listen out for this great choon), Locations - Mister Diamond Man, Nu-Rons All Of My Life and many more which Im sure Ill remember when some brain cells have recovered.
Maybe Andy can remember what he played and post a playlist Nice to meet all the other Soul Talkers making monkeys of themselves, I wont name names as I dont want to offend anyone I miss out which I probably will with my memory. Left towards the end and headed for Stoke which was a different experience altogether.
Again great night and hope to get back there again pretty soon.

100 Club DJ line-up Change for 11.10.03

HOT 100 CLUB NEWS Harboro Horace today unveiled his latest signing for his dream team of expensive guest DJs to play at the 6TS this Saturday night. He has managed to tempt veteran spinner SOUL SAM down the M10 from St Ives to the glimmering lights of Oxford Street. Sam is a (barely) living legend, a veteran of the Northern Soul Scene for 30+ years and has made more controversial remarks than Winston when he frisks girls in the 100 Club doorway. He replaces central defender and Kennys understudy Rave Dimmer who had another engagement that I forgot to ask him about when I put his name on the flyer. Recent signings at the Oxford Street stadium have included newly promoted Pompeiian Russ "Ships Biscuits" Vickers, Tommy "Northern Giant Trying To Relive Past Glories" Hall, Dave "Inscrutable" Flynn and born again, Brighton/Croydon clean liver sensation Ion: dont forget to ask him about Jesus. 100 Club stalwarts Butch and Mick are being rested pending further enquiries into a urine sample found behind the dealers boxes at the last nighter. Ady Croasdell was going to strike in solidarity with his fellow soul miners but couldnt resist the huge wages that Harboro Horace pays himself. Well pass on any more news as it happens. ----------------------------- And in English.... Saturday (11th October) DJ line up will be Soul Sam, Russ Vickers, Dave Flynn, Ion, Tommy Hall and Ady Croasdell ----------------------------- 6Ts have also confirmed their all-nighter and soul night dates for 2004 Click here to view the 2004 dates

Stepping out of the picture.

Thanks to everyone who came along and parted with their hard earned cash. One or two moans I see were put up on chat groups but you cant keep everybody happy. The thing is its always the same people, moan moan moan bla bla bla. They played too many oldies, they played too many unknowns.....christ! how did i manage 4 years? Anyway im taking this time to Annouce my departure from The CSC (last one being the 4th Anniversary).

Stepping out of the picture.

Reviews of last CSC In Sept. ( link no longer valid)

As far as im concerned enough is enough and after having many Battles with the Dome managment the last thing i need to hear is the continuous moans from Ar*eholes who never do anything for the scene but take take take. The Ego heads, snobs who lurch in the corners and just slag everything off and stab you in the back when they can. This is not the only reason im stepping down but they have played there part so to speak.

One other DJ will also be stepping down but i will leave that to him to annouce in his own time. The Anniversary will be the last time the Orginal line is together. Thank you to all the members for your Loyal support over the past 4 years & a massive thank you to all the Dancers as without them we would of stopped years ago.
My understanding at this point is that Alan will now step in and continue the club after Anniversary. We are all still great friends and I would like to wish Alan all the best. Though Alan im not sure about that Big Chief record mate LOL.
Greg (Co Founder & DJ)

My Motto which would always be written in behind the decks was...Its not about impressing the few but impressing the many.

Cheers it was good until it became a job and the fun was no longer there.

Re: Capitol Soul Club news flash! I have been afraid of this. Since Shoreditch and the beginning of the CSC, it has been one of, if not, THE BEST, soul nights I have been to in the 27-28 years I have been listening to rare soul music. As has often been the way, some soul people do not seem to want to appreciate what they have until it has gone. If this club had been in a northern town it would already have legendary status. As it is, myself and the thousands who have been there, have been treated to some of the best new discoveries and best soul nights in the last 4 1/2 years. New Djs have been introduced bringing their sounds and styles. All have been given the chance by forward thinking soul fans running a forward thinking soul club. Just look at the ages of many of the people in there. It is refreshing and a life blood for the future. It is a shame that this time has come, but as I said at the start, it isnt sirprising. How much moaning can people take. I want to say publically, thanks Greg. It has been a great past 4 years, and the twice monthly night has helped boost Northern Soul in the capital to higher level, thanks to all the CSC guys. I know Alan will continue to run it at least as well in the future, and hopefully some of these people who think that soul nights are just there to be moaned about, will either run a better one, or shut the fuck up!

Re: Capitol Soul Club news flash! Sorry to read youre leaving Greg. Ive only been to the Dome 3 times, but each time the evening has been great. September 2002 was the first soul night Id been to for a very long time and it started me going out to clubs again. Thank you and the other DJs for bringing great music to us. Good luck on any new ventures. I am sure Alan will keep up the good work

Most people appreciate what you have done Greg, & together with the other guys you should be proud of what you have achieved. Best wishes to you & the traveller & good luck to Alan + one ( cor blimey this is getting cryptic) for the future of CSC

Re: Capitol Soul Club news flash! i have loved northern soul since i was a liitle girl did my 1st nighter at 15 at the queens hall in bradford and have been to most venues across the country,i discovered the capitol a few years ago and couldnt believe that something so different, young, and full of energy was going on away from the baggy trouser brigade! i think it offered something unique that i have still not found at any other, the balls to break lots of new sounds ,a real mix of style, sound and people, i feel sad for some of the people that spend all of there social enjoyment moaning to djs that put hours of there own time organising these events for there pleasure!who should i feel be thanked ,for keeping the faith, and giving us nights to look forward to, i think irish greg leaving is a great loss ,and i know the leicester massive will miss him greatly! please stop moaning!!!

Re: Capitol Soul Club news flash! I can understand why Greg feels its time to go. He is probably the last of the young guns (early 30s) as the rest of the scenes major DJs are getting on with some touching mid Fifties. The Dome will never be the same again as with any break up in life. Hey theres still the 4th Anniversary! I really hate all those idiots who slag peoples efforts off all the time, you notice also they never have an original idea of there own. Funny that isnt it? Dont look back in anger

Re: Capitol Soul Club news flash! Being a regular since the Capitol began in Shoreditch, I would just like to thank Greg firstly for putting on this club and secondly for playing such outstanding oldies and brilliant newies throughout the clubs years. I know you will always be a collector of fine tunes and may you continue to DJ so we can hear them.

Re: Thank you. First of all can i just say a big thank you for all the above kind words. At this moment i am recommending a certain DJ to replace me, the final decision is with Al. This dj is highly rated by myself and is a genuine nice bloke. I would never leave The Club i have spent 5 years working on just to collapse so DONT PANIC all will be ok and maybe the club with some new faces will find more new discs and reactivate more forgotten tunes. I will continue to DJ at the odd venue
laters all Greg.

These Old Shoes- David Blaine special!!!

No David isnt guesting unfortunately, but he is available for you to pass on your warmest regards and/or abuse in his perspex cage just a double decks length away from the River Bar, Tower Bridge Road, London where These Old Shoes is happening a week on Thursday (October 9th). (nearest tube London Bridge or Tower Hill). Thats if he can last that long! Regulars DJs: Jo Wallace, Alan Handscombe, Martin Thomson plus guest Yann Vatiste. 8pm-12am, £4 on the door playing 60s newies, R&B, classic northern and motown. One of Londons longest running northern soul nights, now heading rapidly towards its FIFTH anniversary! Please note: that due to a national outbreak of "Blaine Baiting" (which has replaced home improvement as the national pastime)- there may be traffic delays over tower bridge as people queue up to laugh at a man who dares to call himself a "friend" of Uri Geller.

Ace Records Oct 2003 new cd releases

New Releases for OCTOBER 2003 from Ace Records HY WEISS presents OLD TOWN RECORDS - ACE - CDCH2 979 It is hard to believe that this year marks the Golden Anniversary of Hy Weiss Old Town Records, the New York label that meant so much to me in my youth, and still does. So what did you want to be when you grew up? A rocknroll star, a baseball player, or maybe even a cop or a fireman? I wanted to be a record man, and Hy Weiss and Old Town Records were my first role models. more JIMMY NELSON / Cry Hard Luck - ACE - CDCHD 976 Its now been almost a quarter of a century since Ace struck its first deal to release masters from the Modern/RPM/Kent/Flair group of labels. Shortly thereafter - in the early 1980s, to be exact - we set up our first "ten inch series" and quickly released a slew of fine albums from some of Moderns mainstays of the early 50s, among them Jimmy McCracklin, Oscar McLollie and Jimmy "T-99" Nelson. more PHILS SPECTRE / A Wall Of Soundalikes - ACE - CDCHD 978 Phil Spectors vision rose far above and beyond that of any of his contemporaries. In fact, Spector saw himself as the sole occupant of a parallel recording universe where his was the only way, and everyone else was nowhere. This, to a large degree, was what made him different and difficult in equal measure. more THE JOHNNY OTIS SHOW / Vintage 1950s Broadcasts From Los Angeles - ACE - CDCHD 981 When Johnny Otis first made a name for himself in Los Angeles, it was the post-war golden era of Hamp and Mingus, Club Alabam, The Barrelhouse and Central Avenue; the urban crucible within which jazz begat rhythm and blues. A couple of years into the next decade, the action had to shifted slightly to Western and Broadway, Club Oasis, Club Alimony and the 5/4 Ballroom. All these thoroughfares were still geographical slivers of the black American community within the district known as Watts, a community as artistically vibrant as it was economically disenfranchised. more CREEDENCE CLEAWATER REVIVAL / Bad Moon Rising: The Best Of - FANTASY - CDFE 500 Creedence Clearwater Revival were a huge part of my mid-to-late teens. They seemed to come out of nowhere (which I later found out was actually a place in California called El Cerrito, a very nice town just north-east of San Francisco) at the beginning of 1969, and for a couple of subsequent years they dominated the US and UK charts with a string of hit singles that were, and remain, everything that good pop music always ought to be - short, sharp and to the point, and 35 years on, timeless in the way that only the best popular music - from Sun to Motown, Sinatra to the Sex Pistols - can be. more THE IMPRESSIONS / The Definitive Impressions Part 2 - KENT - CDKEND 213 This release speaks or sings for itself. Given the success and critical acclaim showered upon our best selling DEFINITIVE IMPRESSIONS, Kent CDKEND 923, we had a hard act to follow. more MASTERPIECES OF MODERN SOUL - KENT - CDKEND 222 To the uninitiated I wont go into the full explanation of Modern Soul, there are more than enough words in the sleevenotes. Suffice it to say that it is primarily danceable 70s soul music with a solid, as opposed to a funky beat. more Produced by Ace Records Ltd
