A relatively quiet Friday with only a couple of events on, the obvious one being Halesowen but they had a singer on and it was ticket only so that gave me the excuse to come here. A little bit out of the way for me but I'd been interested in coming here for a while, the only thing that put me off previously was that the venue is called "Wolfie's Bar" - I had visions of a tiny boozer with a handkerchief sized dancefloor surrounded by drinking locals but how wrong I was; it's not massive but still a good sized venue with a decent dancefloor, long bar etc. The club is billed as "Rare and underplayed" and whilst there were some regulars the couple next to me came from way up north specially for this one.

Really good mix of music - residents Natalie Nicholls and Ken Onions certainly lived up to the rare and underplayed tag; sometimes this can mean relentlessly mid-tempo stuff but but there was a really good mix of more danceable music. Ted Massey was the guest (It seems like I am following him round lately but I'm really not doing it on purpose) and also pulled out enough rare stuff to fit in well with the overall feel. Final DJ was Daz McQueen who stuck to the rare Modern stuff, which is not really my thing but nice to have the contrast. The other bonus was another night with no need to nip to the loo for I Wanna Give You Tomorrow and House For Sale! So good to know that this place is here, long may it continue to offer something different from the mainstream yet still interesting.

The weather on the M6 on the way up was horrendous - the motorway was flooded and overtaking felt like taking your life into your hands so I did leave a little early. One for the summer maybe when the roads are better?

Did a couple of sketches, one in a sketchbook the other a postcard.

I rarely give 5 stars - I've noticed most reviews are by the promoters of the events who inevitably give 5 stars to everything. I am trying to be objective.
