Next up on the Soul Sounds series we are joined by Northern Soul/Modern Crossover fanatic Richio Suzuki
Richio first began collecting Northern Soul at the age of 12, collating a collection of sounds which rubbed off on him.
By 15 he made friends with resident Malcolm Wright and began scouting out the Mod scene and a new era of music.
By 21 Richio began his journey into DJing and with other 40+ years of experience Richio has earned his stripes as one of the most respected men in the Northern Soul/Modern Crossover scene.
We are truly honoured to be inviting him down, he will be joined by guest dj’s Paul Creswell, John Hibbins and the Soul Sounds residents.

The third of these unique events, right in the middle of a barn, right in the middle of a farm.
West Benridge Farm, to the west of Morpeth, Northumberland, has been hosting many music events for many years. For the last three years however, they've hosted the All Northumberland Northern Soul Appreciation Society, and put on the most fabulous nights of soul and Motown for all to enjoy.
In a totally different environment, i.e. a fully operational cattle barn, the dance floor has been specially installed specifically for us and there's a huge sound system, full-on vinyl being spun by our 5 resident DJ's and a mobile bar and food lorry too.

The Viva Soul Club is back behind the turntables for our big Summer Party 2025. The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2025 we're looking once again to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests.
Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon.
Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL.
In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor.
We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.

We hope you can join us at The Grove Theatre, under the Central Library right in the heart of Eastbourne town, for another full evening of ‘across-the-board’ Northern Soul.
Those of you who have joined us at our previous outings at this fab venue know how special it is to us. There is a great wooden dancefloor and separate break-out area with fully-licensed bar. The location is fantastic, and literally just a 2-minute walk from Eastbourne Railway Station (and main town centre bus stops).
We are super-excited to welcome the brilliant Kim Styles as our guest DJ for the evening. Kim requires no introduction to those who have been around for a little while, and has really been at the forefront of the rare soul scene in Sussex since the 1970s. He was a resident DJ at the Night Owl events through the 1980s & 90s, and is now an integral part of the Medway School of Dancing events that are regularly held in Tonbridge.
Our previous Saturday evening events at The Grove have all completely sold out and we are expecting (hoping!!) for the same this time. At the present time we regret there isn't an access point to and from the venue that a mobility impaired person can use unaided. Sadly, no thought was given to such provision when buildings like the Central Library, in which the theatre is located, were designed.

IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT
Just wanted to make everyone aware that Saturday 19th October 2024 was our last night at the Mersey Valley Sports Club venue. Due to falling attendances over the last few months and after recently canvassing the opinions of all our members, we have decided to move to a new venue with a 120 capacity in a location which is hopefully more easily accessible and has a large wooden dancefloor surrounded by seating on three sides with a stage at the front end. (very similar to our original venue at All Saints Parish Hall).
Please note that starting Saturday 16th November 2024, SOS will be moving to United Services Club, 30 Southern Road, Sale, Manchester, M33 6HQ. Some of you will probably already know the venue as local DJs such as Mark Robinson, Alan Haughton, Derek Gorman & Dave Schofield have run soul nights there over the past few years. We will continue to run every 3rd Saturday of the month with slightly different opening and closing times of 7.30pm to 12.00am.
