Built in 1858, The Town Hall is a beautiful, ornate grade II listed building with a large, sprung dance floor. The magnificent dance floor is based on a network of woven wood and is described as being one of only two floors of its type. The other is at Blackpool Tower Ballroom. The building has two storeys and at the entrance is a porte-cochere with large arches, above which is a portico (balcony) with six Corinthian columns, behind this is a Venetian window. The arches were built to be big enough for a horse and carriage to drive through and deliver visiting dignitaries to the door. These days, its quite handy when it's raining for loading and unloading the 1/4 tonne of audio equipment required for the soul night.
The Music
Across the board Northern Soul played from vinyl. ASC strives to bring the best local and national DJ's to the club. The resident DJ's are joined by guests each month, each playing approximately a 1 hour set. DJ choices can be heard on the Mixcloud links below to give an idea of what you might expect to hear.
The Sound System
The house sound system was designed and built by K-Array, an Italian high end audio solutions outfit. Tops are Dragon KX12's and bass is handled by Thunder KM18p's. Total power output is 3.6 Kw
At the opposite end of the Ballroom a pair of Yamaha dzr12 + pair Yamaha dxs18 subs.
The subs are running in Cardioid Array Mode which allows change to the bass sonic characteristics from omnidirectional to very directional.
The full system is currently running 8 speakers and 10 amplifiers through two mixers to give 9Kw total power output.
Powerful and inspirational on the dance floor but quiet enough to have a conversation at your table.
