It was the first time I've been out in 19 months so it was great to see so many of my friends here last night.

They'd told me the new venue was so much better than the last one and it was. Perfect sound and the music was top notch.

I knew I was in for a good night musically when Baz played James Dockery "My faith in you is all gone" closely followed by Billy Sha Rae "Pitfall" in the first hour.

Simon followed Baz with The Four Tops "Is there anything that I can do" in tribute to Abdul Duke Fakir, all of the Dj's played tributes to our good friend Carl Willingham RIP

With Culcheth and Ashton both pushing quality music in the North West then I'll be donning my new shirt again real soon. Well done to all involved.

Mick Howard is the normal reviewer, and much better at it than me but unfortunately he wasn't there. I hope you've sent in a sick note pal.

QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY - Culcheth delivers again, both musically and socially a great night all around (in my opinion of course). The icing on the cake was the appearance of my friend Lord Bob Hinsley after a (far too long) stay of absence...

I spent all night in the main room but heard great reports about the groove from the modern room so job well done the guys in control of the wheels in there

Baz Maleedy kicked of the main room - in fact an extended set of 90mins which was as always a treat (dark horse that he is!) selections like Jesse Slaughter, Perk Lee and Jesse Thomas (Bases Are Loaded) exploding from the speakers just to mention a few....go Baz!!!

I had the pleasure to follow Baz and try to keep things moving for Ginger - who did not disappoint, with a fantastic selection of huge Northern monsters, first up was the Four Tracks (Like My Love) and amongst others Walter & The Admirations, Chuck Cockerham &True Image .... the list goes on...and on...

Kev Murphy took to the stage for the final 90mins and I've got to say he's really slotted into that wrap up slot in style - impossible for him to hide the enjoyment he's getting out of it at the moment ..... mojo in full force! Big thanks to him for playing Hayes Cotton - I'll Be Waiting' - Claire for me

Don't miss out on the next installment - what's not to like!

As expected, another stellar night of soul music at Culcheth.  The main problem is there are two great rooms of soul and only one of you.

Baz Maleedy seemingly has the gold standard in tuneage for any genre of soul. Here he got things going in the main room, with some tracks that remind you why you made the effort: Clarence Hill and Lee Williams & the Cymballs, "Lost Love".  With some lesser-known gems, Webs “Don’t ever hurt me” and James Dockery “My Faith in you is all gone”

Steve Plumb was on at 9 in the modern room. It’s always an education listening to Steve, he introduces all his tracks and invariably provides extra snippets of information. I think he kicked off with an up-tempo disco number, Executive Suite “When it Comes to Loving me” A few album dance tracks: Ronnie & The Ramblers “Peace without love” and a sublime tune by Harold Melvin and Blue notes “Keep on lovin you”. Which is also the flip to “Don’t leave me this way”. It was also good to hear the Kent masterpiece Charlie Rich “Don’t tear me down”

Simon Ingham was on after Baz, a predictably fabulous set. There are always a few surprises and the odd unknown yet affordable tune, which is seamlessly included amongst a plethora of the most sort after tracks. Here Buddy Lamp “You’ve got the loving touch” is set against Elbie Parker, Sparkles and Gene Toons.

The special guest was the inimitable Ginger Taylor, who kept the dance floor busy: The Sweets “Something about my baby”, Construction and a tune I don’t think I have ever declined the opportunity to dance to, The Del Larks.

Charlie Smith had the last hour in the modern room, with some great sounds: Fantasy, Papa Bear & His Cubs and Flowers “For Real”.

Kev Murphy had the last spot in the main room.  With tunes made for the dance floor: Silky Hargreaves and Lester Tipton. And the dictionary definition of Northern Soul: The Professionals “That’s Why I Love You”. A great evening concluded with the Magnetics “When I’m with my Baby”.

BOB HINSLEY...

MY WORD!, GOBSMACKED OR WHAT??....totally took the building by surprise, to a man and woman, even sporting a grey beard!, snuck past us all casually sauntering along behind a deadpan Robbo who didnt give anything away....delayed reaction is an understatement...then met with lots of handshakes, back slapping and huge grins...the Prodigal Son returned!....first n foremost: a top bloke secondly, a great dj and a proper personality.....personally, made the night complete for me alongside fabulous music from Baz, Simon, Mr. Ginger Taylor and Kev before we set off home...and heartfelt tributes to the magnificent Carl Willingham, who sadly passed away this weekend....love all these people and all the familiar face regulars who attend Culcheth as they have done in years previous at Venues like Lowton and Monaco amongst others in this area of East Lancs.

Remiss of me or anyone to just single out the rare 60's on offer when, this is categorically a two room fiesta of music...Steve Plumb, Bill Wildman and Charlie Smith put their trademark stamp on the essential eclectic mix under the banner xover - modern...always a history lesson in seeking out and playing the least obvious and bringing acceptability to the dancefloor.

Overall, the knowledge and collections of the assembled was, and still is, second to none...for a venue to stand out above others, these attributes can't be understated, Culcheth has the very real potential to be a long running purveyor of tasteful music....it keeps it real and forges its own path.

Hopefully, we all see Bob back out more, and displaying more of his legendary shirt wardrobe!😁😉👍

A very enjoyable evening. Great mix of new releases, rare modern and Northern played by all the residents and guests Simon and Ginger who obliged by playing both requests we asked for namely Bobby Joy and The Phonetics.

Impossible to find fault apart from the absolute need to use copious amounts of talc on the dance floor!

We’ll certainly be back in the next month or two.
