Paul I remember playing at Steve's very successful nights at The Drunken Monkey as well.

Yes Bob I never got to the drunken monkey until some years later I played at the Springfield hotel, same place as you’ll know mate Pete Hollander did some nighters. Was really good loved the place unfortunately they no longer allow music events there. After doing the place up

Added to the forthcoming Culcheth All-Dayer DJ rota is Paul Shirley AKA Wigan Paul...

Paul has been around since the early days of the Casino, a regular at Lowton Civic as well as many more all-nighters and soul nights over the years including Culcheth, Burnley Lost Souls, Horwich RMI, Jacaranda Liverpool. Paul has always been know for being dedicated to the rarer side of Northern and has bought and sold collections over the years but today, he still has a great collection of the ‘Rarest of The Rare’ in both Northern and Modern!

So, looking forward to Paul spinning on the ‘Wheels of Steel’ at CULCHETH on Sept 6th…

Here’s one of Paul’s current spins

Arthur Willis and The Soulful Dynamics ,The Hurting Is Over

Paul Shirley.jpg

This and a load more monster sounds in this fellas box!! I will try get over but doubt it! I can’t do two nights on the bounce now especially with family commitments etc.. but no doubt Paul will take the roof off he was fantastic at soul @ Tiffany for me on Friday after two sets he still had plenty left to play he was gutted when I took him off!! Good to see him getting more bookings and not the same old faces in the north west 👍🏼

Simon Ingham - Young Gun???

A new guy on the block? Not really, Simon has been around since the days of Morecambe, Stafford, Whitchurch, Radcliffe, Bury and many more! A real devotee to rare and underplayed soul and sessions under his guidance at Bury Town Hall All-Nighters became an intrinsic part of the night, with name DJ’s wanting to come and play from ‘The Back of the Box’ at those sessions. Simons’ passion for the music and superb and every growing collection now manifests itself at Ashton Ukranian and CULCHETH where he is one of the resident DJ’s. Finally getting the recognition he rightly deserves, Simon can list guest sets at The 100 Club, Keele and Whitchurch All-Nighters to add to his residencies.

Here's one of Simon's featured spins at CULCHETH Hayes Cotton I’ll Be Waiting

I neglected to post the soundfile for this with the picture. It's another case watching the soulsource record sales conveyor belt waiting to ' magpie ' the next catchy tune that comes along. Not on too many folks radar just yet, and suggested as forward thinking potential, bass line scratch guitar and piano drive this out-of-control funk bomb...see if it lights the fuse for some of our dancers..

Bloody heck Calvin, you're still a young lad I'll bet everybody's face looks old compared to yours.

Only joking I know what you mean but Baz always changes the DJ line up

You're probably right not to do 2 nights on the bounce though, that's how we got these old looking faces, just ask Julian B Pendulum Fri, Mecca then Torch and then Leigh Casino on Sunday night where Kev Fox took down his latest purchases from The Torch for the resident DJ to play.😃😂

(Julian I'd like to point out I'm only joking with that last remark)

Kev probably bought them from me! Used to sell loads at the Torch/Mecca etc. Happy days

What can we say about Robbo? THE ‘face in the place’ for many years on the North-West rare soul scene, for as many years as we can remember, a man who’s record box just oozes QUALITY, from MONSTERS like Fortson and Scott ‘Sweet Lover’ to Gene Chandler Buddy Ain’t It a Shame, the latter being typical of Robbo championing many, many tunes over the years a REAL tastemaker. Always a great night when Robbo gets behind the decks and this Saturday at CULCHETH will be NO EXCEPTION!

Spot on with that summary BazM 🤲

I'd also describe Robbo as a great ambassador of the scene and I'll polish that off with 'a cheeky dark horse' too. ... I've heard more than one or 2 folk express surprise upon hearing the unexpected hit the decks

Only 1 more sleep until we get the chance to gather and celebrate the Culcheth Anniversary thumbsup

Back to that man Robbo here's what is possibly a little know fact that highlights the influence he's had on the music that gets played.

Back in the 90s Robbo asked Bob Hinsley if he knew Gladys Knight "No one could love you more", he didn't but listened and told him it was brilliant. Robbo gave him the LP and the rest is history (at that time the single version on the re-issue of Take Me In Your Arms hadn't been noticed).

Our penumtimate bio is for honourary 'marketing manager' Rob Haigh

Rob has been a Soul enthusiast for best part of 25 years, with a love for all the different genres of music on the scene. Starting out at the Catacombs in the 70's, Rob first started djing at 'Sammies ' (youth club all-nighter in St.Giles Willenhal). But it was the Lea Manor Hotel that opened his eyes and mind to the realisation that "there's more to the scene than you think"!  This manifests itself in the playbox he’s assembling and is pretty much representative of the different facets and styles of the scene...

Rob’s favourite venues, past and present include, Brighouse Ritz, Lowton Civic Hall, Prestwich Longfield Suite and his all-time No1, Manchester Ritz! Still as enthusiastic as ever, Rob loves spinning the tunes and dancing.... His DJ CV includes guest spots in Italy, Culcheth, Ashton Ukrainian, Saltaire, ELSC and 45 Revolutions...Rob Haigh

Kev McCue - Last, but definitely not least in local lad Kev McCue. As part of the Warrington ‘crew’ Kev very rarely missed a night at Lowton Civic were he and the Warrington crowd took 'pole position' right at the front of the stage in the main room. An avid collector of ‘girl’ vocals, Kev’s ear was definitely tuned towards the femme side of Northern Soul. Kev kicks the proceedings off tomorrow, so if you like quality rare soul, from sounds like Liz Verdi ‘Think it Over’ to underplayed selections like Sebastian Williams ‘Get Your Point Over’ then join us from 4pm tomorrow, you’ll be glad you did…

Baz you're not wrong there, with Kev and all the Warrington crew at the front of the stage, it was like Lowton had it's very own quality control department.
