Was at a family wedding at the weekend and managed to get out the night before for a few beers with some soul mates I'd grown up with , ( over 25 yrs ) , out of the six of us ,

Everybody stil collects vinyl , BUT

Two go to nighters / soul nights RELIGIOUSLY,

The other lad and me do the monthly soul night / couple of weekenders a year ,

Other two don't do bugger all !!! , They follow the forums , buy regularly and chill out at the weekend with a glass of wine , whilst listening to their vinyl , surprisingly in the conversation they had the better sounds and new current prices !!!! very annoying !

Between us all we had a very large and expensive collection , who does'nt !!!! BUT

The main issue was none of our wives were on the scene / followed it / interested in it / or had any inkling to do so !!!!

So if one of us died it would be up to the others to sort it out

re the collection !!!

My question is : What is the answer ? Do we prepare our spouses and kids with tales of " Don't touch that , it's worth hundreds " and " Take this brown envelope to John Manship upon my departure "

Or trust those kindly / thoughtful souls on ebay to put her right when she starts listing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :

My two boy's who live in the U.K. have no interest in the Soul scene and have threatened to use my vinyl as frizbies lol. Hope they were only joking as you can imagine the horror of Al Williams hitting the dirt !! Seriously though my wife is really into the whole shebang so she knows to send all my top numbers to Manship ( that's assuming he outlives me ). On that note it's not just us that are getting older, the dealers out there are in the same boat so we should be putting more thought as to WHO will be left to sell the montain of vinyl on our families behalf. Now that does pose a question does'nt it ?? Probably worth starting a completely new thread to discuss the matter eh ?

Yep at the moment there is but i hope to live for another 1000 weeks at least so what then ?? Plus the parcelling up and posting would really piss my kids off. Any bets on who of the main dealers will still be around to sell stuff for us ? Will their kids want to take over from them ? Might be a good business venture for some up and coming 20 year old. No probs sourcing the stock to sell, just a place big enough to store it all. Look out Mums and Dads your garages are gonna be crammed full of vinyl. Oh well over to you. ATB Tony. OZ.

you'll find this thread has been covered in the last two weeks and in a somewhat detailed manner, wether you consider it in a light-hearted frame now or seriously later in life, the fact is a record collection is an artifact of considerable value and should the worst happen it can also become the centre of a potentially explosive legal fight if not dealt with properly....like everything else you submit in a will.

what a pessimistic view to take, i'm relying on somebody still being around to want them.

Its not being pessimistic mate just realistic. Sure there'll still be some collectors knocking around but I'm convinced that in 30 years time when a large % of us have gone there's gonna be an awful lot of vinyl that no one wants.
