Following on from a thread in refosoul, what is the difference between the green & blue UK demo's. The one in question was "Tailgate" by 21st creation, but as my copy of "rode by the place" is also a green demo i would really like to know, was this ever released on a blue demo?. The answer in refosoul was that blue was first and green was a second issue? is this right?.

Aussie ones might have blue A on em ? and NZ issues are blue or do you mean the blue wheel design thats also green demo's and blue demo's also no difference in value,i have em both,,..how that clear as mud ?

i dont think there is any rhyme or reason for this. the blue tailgate demo is the first issue as it has an earlier release date but other releases from 78/79 period i think are only on green

no reference in terry wilson's book about demo's strangely, but i would imagine that as releases ceased for 3 years between 76 and 79, the relaunch in the hands of RCA must have prompted the new owners to go for a form of symbolism as a reference to the labels 60's success, i.e: the 600 series onwards, were green and white demo's so perhaps they thought it was a fitting way to remind people that tamla motown was still going strong, on the verge of a new decade. please note: there were only 11 official releses in 76 and they were all revivals of 60's & 70's classics as double a-sides, in 79 motown uk launched its 12" series.

Think you're perhaps at cross purposes here. You're right that Tamla Motown ceased in 1976 but the question was about the new Motown label with the 'starburst' effect. There were about 7 releases in 1976 on the 'new' label and some 115 releases between 76 and 79.

With regards the original question I have 2 green demos (1105 and 1137) and 2 blue ones (1151 and 1167) if that's any use.

I don't have a definative answer either, with regards to whether the green or blue coloured UK Motown demos came out came out in any specific order - or even if it really makes any diference.

I have lots of these, both blue ones and green ones, I think I even have both variations of "Tailgate"

My copy of "Rode by the place" demo is green with a date of release as November 25th 1977 - that release was TMG 1093

"Tailgate" was TMG 1075 if that means anything...

found out that 21st creation released an album in 78 which had tailgate on it, maybe the green demo issued to promote the album.

blue demo tmg 1075 3- 6- 77

no mention of the lp .
