May 2, 201015 yr First heard the track at Stafford also , it's a take on an old blues tune by Howlin Wolf - How Many More Years , which was one of his signature tunes . As for the artist Guitar Ray , no idea , but anybody who can come up with the immortal line " Goin down in the cellar , gonna gather up all my clothes " !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get's my vote , a great track Edited May 2, 201015 yr by 123-motown

May 3, 201015 yr it's a take on an old blues tune by Howlin Wolf - How Many More Years , which was one of his signature tunes . Check out Howlin Wolf's "You Gonna Wreck My Life", Guitar Ray's tune is lyrically pretty much a straight cover of that one: Great version of "How Many More Years" here as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ou-6A3MKow&a=W-7zocZ9du0&playnext_from=ML
May 3, 201015 yr John Ridley's page on Guitar Ray https://www.sirshambl...guitar_ray.html Plus some more info on him https://homeofthegroo...g-q-factor.html JR gives early 70s but the other site which has a lot of info on him states 1968 Edited May 3, 201015 yr by Dave Turner
May 3, 201015 yr From memory I think it was a 1974 release, although sounding much older (as did so many indie label things from New Orleans). And the artists was Raymond Jones. I'm pretty sure he was related to Senator. It's one of those records I had a few copies of but nobody ever seemed interested ...until after it went big, of course, by which time I'd sold them all. That happened a lot, especially with the modern soul boom. I suppose I'll never be rich. Oh well, it's only money. No point getting annoyed about it...
May 3, 201015 yr Hello Paul good to see the Senator get a plug -check this read out- it states that Raymond jones was the organ man for Charles Brimmers band -I did not even know the senator was dead-his funk cd is really worth a listen folks -great little history on this read of some oF the moovers on the southern soul scene!! https://thevinylword.blogspot.com/2008/12/senator-jones.html BAZ A

Yes, Raymond Jones did arrangements on a lot of Senator's stuff, Johnny Adams, Charles Brimmer etc. I always assumed he might be 'Guitar Ray' but I can't be certain, and I also thought he was related to Senator. I'm just going off memory here. I'll ask Garry Cape, he knew Senator quite well, or I could email Isaac or Cynthia or someone else who worked with him. By the way, I loved the Charles Brimmer LPs and the Johny Adams stuff, even though some of it was a bit low-budget and dated at the time. It's almost as if the indie labels in New Orleans were living in the past to some degree. Best wishes, Paul Edited May 3, 201015 yr by Paul
