Just been flicking through Youtube & did the usual thing & stumbled onto some David Rodigan & thought now he's to the Reggae scene what Soul Sam is to the Soul scene.

Love him or hate him you certainly can't ignore him.

Opinions please (& don't forget I'm a novice down here in't Reggae room LOL)

I've seen some good stuff from Rodigan on youtube aswell think one might have been a gig in Milan he had the crowd rocking, think he as a radio show going aswell :thumbsup:

I remember going to the Black Echoes reggae awards at Hammersmith Palais I think it might have been 1980/81 or thereabouts and thinking how out of place Rodigan looked in his suit and tie - but the man knows his music. Aswad were playing that day and also there was some sort of scare - I don't if someone shouted fire or if there was some trouble that we couldn't see but suddenly a panic broke out and a wall of people came rushing at us - the whole place emptied really fast..

LOL. Knew you'd say that Pete but you'd also say the same about Sam so it kinda justifies my connection in my first post don't you think.

Guy seems so wrong that he's right in a wrong kinda way if you know what I mean, a bit like dear old Sam really.

Got to go see him live & sooner rather than later.

Wash your ears out Smithy & look at this for a bargain from the BBE website.

£3.50 well spent & just a shame that volume 2 was sold out but cheap enough on places like amazon.

No need to wash my ears out, I've got more of this type of music than you could shake a shitty stick at - thousands of tracks of 70's reggae - and guess what, they all sound the same. The 60's had the urgency of ska, the soulfulness of rocksteady and the energy of the new reggae, 70's onwards the music goes all rootsy and boring. I'm afraid I can't relate to jah rastafari, babylon and smoking weed. Same as soul music, that used to be good, same scenario, sounds change, styles change, you either like it or you don't.

The CD you recommended would last about 5 minutes, like they all do.

Unlistenable rubbish music

Back in the eighties when my shirts were checkered and my parting was shaved "Rodigans Rockers" on BFBS every thursday evening was a MUST HEAR. Later on in the nineties I heard him play a couple of times live in Berlin but was slightly dissappointed...maybe my expectations were set to high.
