September 20, 201014 yr Sorry, don't have a copy of either for sale, but the original version is by Nova's Nine, issued on ABC. The tune is written by Bob Mann who was a member of that group.
September 20, 201014 yr my mystics is on metromedia .. The original release was on CHARLIE as Michael's Mystics. It was later picked up by METROMEDIA and issued as by The Mystics.
September 20, 201014 yr I have all of those (the Charlie label cracks me up, looks like a 70's aftershave ad or something) AND a far rarer raw garage version that will have to dig out as forget the group name
September 20, 201014 yr the 'raw garage version' is probably the Bare Facts on Goldrode(sp?). No horns, I think, I may even have the record somewhere. Charlie was the name of a women's perfume. I remember TV commercials for it. I dunno if there's a connection to said record, I've never owned one (nor do I want to). The best version is by the Grass Roots, it was not released on a US 45 (LP cut only) but did come out somewhere in Europe I believe. There was something like 200 copies of the Little Flint 45 'found' some years ago. Don't over pay for it! The producer (co) wrote a book about Cincinnati music and mentions the band, the book is interesting but heavily biased towards artists he had personal connections with. October 7, 201014 yr K, found the other garage version, it's not any of the ones listed here, Downbeats on Trail, see a pretty beat copy just went through ebay, Tennessee 45, belting little version!
